Yes, it’s that time again! The weather is warming up (despite the ground frosts up here in the last three days!) and we want to hear all about your planned races for the month of May. I think that May is a great month for running and racing. The promise of decent weather (ignoring the odd named storm!) and the freshness of the countryside is wonderful. I keep looking for lambs along my usual route; maybe they are waiting for the grass to grow a bit longer here oop north!

If you have a race in May, just reply to this post below and we will add you to the May 2025 Spread Sheet to ensure that you get a great send off in our Pom Pom Post published every Friday prior to race day. I have been on the receiving end of those posts; they really help to dispel any pre race butterflies! The April events have been amazing to date, culminating in last Saturday’s take over of the lovely town of Bakewell and the London Landmarks event. I always find reading the after run posts inspiring and keep thinking that it is high time that I put in another appearance; we will see! I have included a photograph of Bakewell which was substituted by a giant emoji in my Pom Pom post on Friday!

When replying to this post, please include details of the race(date, location and the distance you have chosen). Adding a hyperlink to the race website to your reply is a big help too (just copy and paste it from your browser).

You can view the May 2025 Spread Sheet here:

docs.google.com/spreadsheet...

There is still a lot going on in April of course with races booked and our own HU Spring 2025 virtual races on 27 April. Keep your eyes open for posts πŸ‘€.

Hi Beachcomber66 I have a 10K booked for Sunday 4th May, it's organised by @Upandrunnevents and is being held at Glasgow Green, there are 3 races taking place, 5K, 10K and a half marathon, as I say I am running the 10K

Got you Al. Looks like a lovely run. I am sure that you are all trained up and good to go πŸ‘

I am indeed Beachcomber66 , Glasgow Green is the oldest park in Glasgow, it was established in 1450, the last 200 metres of The Great Scottish Run ends there.I am going to run a practice 8K on the nearby Clydeside Walkway about 8 days before the 4th of May.

Hi Beachcomber66 I have the Bognor Prom 10K on 18 May 2025. The website is bognorprom10k.org πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈβ€βž‘οΈπŸ‘ It may be my last event for a while, depending on how a hospital appointment tomorrow goes and when they are planning to operate on me.

I’ll post about that separately once I know what their plans are and the likely timescales.

Good luck everyone running this month and in May 2025 - hopefully the weather will hold out for us all! 🀞

You are on the spread sheet DavidπŸ‘ I hope that your appointment goes well. Shame to miss the good weather through an op, but if it has to be done, good to get it out of the wayπŸ™‚

Hi Beachcomber66 πŸ‘‹ Ooo me please! I’m running the Great Bristol 10k on Sunday May 11th. My local. The event village is always electric with DJs and a very enthusiastic warmup, and it’s a fun course even though it includes a few cheeky cobbles and a sneaky hill at 8k!

I do wish the course still included the Portway which runs under the Clifton Suspension Bridge, as it used to be a thrill running under it even though I see the bridge virtually every day! Not to be though - it’s reserved for the HM runners only now. Never mind, it’ll be great fun regardless. πŸ˜€

Thanks for adding me to the spreadsheet πŸ™

Got you cheeky! All listed and signed up. Pity about the route change; you will just have to run the HM next year 😈 😘

Hello. I’m signed up for the Eastbourne Race for Life 10k on the 25th May.

raceforlife.cancerresearchu...

This was originally going to be my first ever organised race until I decided to aim for the Brighton HM in March.

It might well be just as much of a challenge though as I’m not able to run for another couple of weeks following surgery so will only have 3-4 weeks to get back to a 10k distance. Fingers crossed.

Hope that you are good to go on the 25th IRunning. A nuisance about the surgery, but an organised 10k will be a good build up to the HM. 🀞 your training goes well. πŸ‘

Just for something completely different, I am doing the Flat 10k Gin Fun Run on 4th May (multumginparvo.com) A 10k trail around the Rutland countryside, with gin cocktails rather than water stations, live music, food and a medal. What’s not to like πŸ₯°

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66AdministratorHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toSandie1961

That sounds like a recipe for dehydration Sandie! Maybe there will be Mr &Mrs Legless awards at the end for the most enthusiastic drinkers! Sounds as though it will be a blast!

🍹πŸ€ͺ probably won’t be a PB, but it’s not timed so at least I can pause my Garmin, rather than trying to drink a gin cocktail while running πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Practice for the Marathon du Medoc - not the running I hasten to add!

On 4th May I'll be running GEAR10K - Grand East Anglia Run.

runforall.com/events/10k/ge...

This is a 10K around King's Lynn in Norfolk, the town of my childhood, so brings back lots of memories.

Beachcomber66 profile image

Many years since I set foot in King’s Lynn (Norfolk Broads holidays in my teens!). I hope that it will be a happy experience with fond memories for you.

I'm doing that again, and also the Parkrun on the day before. We didn't find each other last year, maybe we will this time?

I'll probably be doing the Sandringham parkrun the day before. I hope we can meet before GEAR.

Yes, you met Madge didn't you? I'll let you know where I'll be and what I'll be wearing nearer the time.

10K in King's Lynn. A lovely event, I did it last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. We make a weekend of it, this year we're going on Friday and I'm going to do the Parkrun there with my husband. The 10K includes part of the Parkrun route so I know it's a nice one.

Last year I met Madge50 there, don't know if she's taking part this year having had a very hard time recently.

Let’s hope that she makes the run this year CG2. You will have the company of 00marks in any event, as well as MrCG2 of course. I hope you have a really good weekend.

And also, I meet up with some friends from a Facebook forum (Slow AF) we're all back of the pack runners, we've met up at quite a a few events now.

My husband is not a runner, so he will be keeping our table in the 'Spoons, where we are staying, and has promised to have a pint of cold cider waiting for me. I was so thirsty last year and the queues were bonkers! The race starts outside the pub, so not far to walk!
