With spring well upon us, the racing season really ramps up. Did anyone get a coveted (by some) place in the London Marathon this year? There's certainly some great bling on offer out there in April, across all distances. Hopefully lots of sunshine and flowers, and very few fools and showers!
We want to hear about any and all events you've signed up for in April. It doesn't matter what distance or what type of event, we love to hear about them all. You give us ideas, you give us the benefit of your experience and we get to support you on your way!
On the Friday before your event we will give you a shout out and you'll be surprised just how many fellow VRBs will pop up waving pompoms and cheering you on. Whether it's your first event or another excuse to add a medal to a groaning rack (we know who you are!), be assured that any distance, any location, everything and everyone is welcome here.
To give you that shout out, we need you to reply to this post giving us the name of your event, the date and a link to the organiserβs website. Then weβll add your details to our April spreadsheet and you can see what everyone is doing here:
Of course we also have our own HU Virtual Spring 2025 event to look forward to on 27th April. If you haven't signed up yet, watch out for next week's post!
Here's to some great events in April π₯°πββοΈββ‘οΈπ π

Oh yes, whilst I rememberβ¦ Manchester Marathon as well for me, Katnap and youngest kitten on 27th April. Knew I was training for something else π€£ (Iβm doing Virtual London at the same time becauseβ¦ well, why not?!)
I got a qualifying time when I ran the Paris marathon last year. If it goes OK I'll become a six star finisher. Lets hope I don't mess it up. When I did C25K in 2020 I never imagined I'd be here.
Looking forward to it. Did it in 2021 and things didnβt exactly go to plan. The route is reversed this year so will be interesting to see how that compares.
Fingers crossed Iβll be doing the Manchester marathon on 27th. Not been fit recently and itβll be a challenge. Iβd have deferred, but missed the date.
Ahh that's not how you want to feel right now, but you've already few weeks yet to make up some ground and come up with a feasible game plan. Wishing you all the best.
I am not running the LM, but I did win a place in the charity ballot so am delighted to have a keen supporter entering for us raising much needed funds! Iβll be running the HU event on the same day, I hope, so will be mentally there for about 10km of the 42!!
Good luck to everyone training, whatever your event is.
There's no Web page ,but here's some info . Me and 2 friends won the nominated time cup last year!! Its back to the original route this year, last year was changed due to Cliff fall !
Rog Run - 13th April 2025
A reminder that the Original Rog run will take place on Sunday 13th April 2025.
Meet from 10am at Ventnors The Millbay, (PO38 1JR) for bag drop and number collection, with run starting at 11AM from Ventnor sea front.
This is run in memory of the awesome Roger Walker Reed, a much loved and respected Isle of Wight Road Runner with a passion for trail & fell running!
This route, starting at sea level and climbing gently to the highest point on the Island is approx 7.2 miles around and was Rogers favourite training run.
It is 20% trail and 80% road.
As such, we celebrate his achievements and the contribution he made to the club by making this one of our annual runs.
There are awards for the closest to their nominated time for both men and women. Trophies donated by Roger will be awarded for those, and the first team of four with the closest time will also receive a donated trophy of Roger's.
The race is free to enter, however, we do ask that donations are made to Roger's two selected charities: SSAFA (lifelong support for our forces and their families) and Local Hospice Cancer Nurses Support.
Please be aware that this is not an official race & all runners run at their own risk. There will be a back marker, however, to ensure no one gets lost!
The route is 80/20 road and trail but choice of shoes is yours.
There will be drinking water at the finish.
Awards will be presented in the Millbay, with hot and cold drinks, and food available to purchase!
Hi linda9389 Not sure I'll be able to go to this now as Kenny has asked for some help Fri eve/Saturday , and not certain I'll get home in time for Sunday morning. So please take me off the pompom list πͺxxx
I'm doing the London Marathon MyWay on Sunday 27th April. First ever marathon and feeling very nervous as I will be on my own all the way so will have to dig deep when it gets tough!
We'll all be with you in spirit HF! Whispering in your ear, batting the gremlins away and cheering you on! When the going gets tough ... remember your 'why?', and think of the bling!
Nursing sore calves so hoping to be able to compete in these events that I have entered. Fingers crossed!!
Sunday 6th April - Monsal Trail 10k - I will be there come hell or high water, my favourite event ever! Plus there will be lots of HU buddies to socialise with.
Sunday 13th April - Cannock Chase 10k Trail. - Got talked into this by Sandie1961 . Iβm not a fan of the Chase (having competed there on horseback and on bicycles) as it is a very spooky place and very undulating, but I couldnβt let my bestie down! This is going to be a tough one!
Wednesday 23rd April - Mad Goose Chase - Stage 1. An opportunity to enjoy beer and a burger and ride your bike. Our local brewery run this series of events during the summer, starting with this the first stage. Our route is just 10 miles from home, only snag is the brewery is at the top of a cheeky climb, but the homeward 10 miles is a fast descent to start, usually in the dark. Best not to have too many beers!!
I say hope because the training plan was going great until week 12 long run when I started getting pain across the arch of my left foot, I carried on until almost 20 miles but was in pain for a few days after.
I tried a longish run on Sunday, after having no pain for a few days, and it started again around mile 10. So physio appt tomorrow and really hoping itβs nothing that will stop me taking part after a gruelling training plan. π€πΌππΌ
Oh no Dendev! I hope the physio can get you sorted and able to run. It must be devastating to come that far and hit a problem. I will keep everything crossed for you π€
