Goodbye Speed 3

'Speed for free' are going.

Over 800km but they need to go to the shoe recycling box at our local leisure centre. They didn't get as interesting a name as Drooper & Fleegle and they performed a bit oddly: sometimes good sometimes bad.

Apart from the tread starting to bald in spots they're in pretty good condition. But what was annoying was the right insole kept riding up behind the heel leaving the toes hanging over the end. I 'fixed' this by using insoles from another pair of shoes retired previously but the insole started going wrong again.

Sounds like you won’t be sorry to say goodbye to that pair Katnap . I’m always amazed at how many kms you get out of your shoes . As soon as I get close to 400 km mine no longer provide the support I need. They are still good for walking in though.

Maximus might get to 1000km

Me too Dexy. My sports podiatrist is studying running shoes and writing a paper on them. He tells me that all shoes deteriorate quite quickly. Clever marketing?

hopefully they don’t deteriorate in the box waiting to be worn. 😱

Actually... they do. But keeping them in dry, dark storage that's not too hot or too cold will slow the deterioration. 😯

A lot of it's down to the foams they use. Also the glues they use don't always last either. (This is why stockpiling favourite shoes doesn't always work.)

My type of shoes tend to wear out from the outside, with the tread wearing away. I tend to replace before the midsole starts peeping through. 🤣

Time to say goodbye, they are pretty though and have run a lot of kilometres,

I get as much out of my shoes as I can. But you can never be sure no matter how careful you are.

Oooh, does that mean you can get some new shoes ... 😈

😂 just wonderful! My shoes don’t have names…..wonder if they would run better if they had? Trouble is it would be harder to part with them 🙂

🤣 Drooper and Fleegle managed over 900km and I was definitely getting niggles after runs in them.

They must be exhausted! Time to put them out to pasture and bring on your new recruits.

I tried using the red Speed 3s for walking but the insole problem persists. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They've given you plenty of miles, shame they didn't always play nicely. I love it when my shoes wear out so I can buy another pair. I don't often wait that long though.

I sell on or give away any shoes that I really don't get on with and there's always some trepidation involved in getting new shoes...

My speed 2s have 750km logged on them but in reality it will be more like 1000km counting warm ups and I'm reluctant to admit they are on their last legs.

TailChaser was sad to say goodbye to the Speed 2s. Happy with her pair of v4s but still misses the v2s.

I loved my Speed 2s, they were such a lot of fun. Unfortunately my ITB didn’t like their instability.

I've taken my speed 2s up to HM and they were my go-to shoe for parkruns. What do you find is stable and suitable for long distances? I'm always on the lookout.

I got a HM pb in a pair of Speed 2s, they were my go to HM race shoe until they got me injured. I’ve been finding my Adidas Boston 12s have been doing a good job recently. I’ve got a pair of Asics Superblast 2s that were supposed to be for long runs but I don’t get on with them, hence using the Bostons instead. Like Katnap, I also have some Rebel v4s but I couldn’t imagine running a marathon in them, I only use them for easy runs, short to mid length runs.
