Book recommendation: Running Through the Dark by Jen Scotney

I'm going to post this to both 'Fun Beyond' (because Jen's events are definitely 'beyond') and Bridge to 10K.

I wanted to let people know about Running Through the Dark, Jen Scotney's memoir, strapline 'The Rise and Fall of an Ultrarunner'

Until recently based in the Peak District, she's had an interesting life and I enjoyed reading about her aspirations and her challenges (I fear I laughed out loud at an unusual running injury).

I wouldn't ordinarily read two books involving people who (notionally at least) share an illness with me so close together but that's the way the reserve system at the library fell out this time. I am sure this book might have some in my 'community' spitting feathers, and not unreasonably, but curiously I found it much less personally problematic than the furore-inducing celebrity bestseller I read just before. This is because she doesn't succumb to the temptation of so many to turn her memoir into a self-help guide - it is simply her story and well written, no padding.

The promise of self-help might sell more books - so I want to do my bit to publicise this one instead!

Thanks for this GM. Now I’m curious and want to know what the unusual running injury is so I’ll read the book 😊

Thanks for that GoogleMe . Someone on here recommended this book which Santa brought me.

I’ve just finished it - brilliant. It’s an honest and humorous tale of her many long distance runs around the world (including one on my doorstep). She enjoys running in fancy dress, so I’m not the only one . 😂
