Been to see a podiatrist about plantar Fasciitis and he's said no running for 8 weeks and to start stretching both feet out using a cold tin off beans 3 times a day for 5 minutes. Basically the impact is causing the pain π’ and once I've stretched them over a period of time the should be OK. Now gym workout is OK along with cycling rowing but given the Manchester marathon is end of April would I have enough time to train for it?

Argh Tessie sending so much sympathy your way. Itβs an utterly miserable position to be in. I can empathise-Iβm in a similar position with my April marathon having lost three weeks to flu and now facing at least another week or two out with a pulled muscle, I guess all we can do is take it day by day and see where we are. Really good luck to you with your recovery β€οΈβπ©Ή
oh no! Bad news, indeed!
We recently found a secondhand viva rocker device to help with PF , but it sort of depends what the source of PF is. In my case, itβs tight calves, and I think this device has helped.

In my case, as it was likely due to tight calves, it is sometimes suggested that rolling your foot might not actually help that much, as it can exacerbate inflammation. Then some research suggests that it might not be due to inflammation at all.
Iβve found it confusing, but Iβve been meaning to start to do the below exercises, but havenβt gotten quite around it yet. But knowing these exercises definitely cannot hurt, but possibly might help, they might be something to try out to see if they help.

Hope it fades quickly as I hear they can stick around for longer.
(After any shower Iβve also gotten into the habit of creaming and massaging my feet with castor oil. Not sure it helps, but feels great)
Oh Tessie66 , what utterly rotten luck, I know that marathon means a lot to you.
Tbh I think it's too soon to know whether or not you'll be able to start. If I personally were in your position I'd be checking deferral or refund terms and conditions. Then, as close to the deadline as possible, I'd be thinking about my prospects of getting round within the cut-off time, and deciding accordingly. But that's just how my mind works.
Wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery.
Thank you and happy new year. The deferel is February so I'm going to give myself the best chance and decide then, as you know I really want to do this marathon in April so fingers crossed at the moment
Oh no How frustrating. In my experience, worrying about whether or not I'm going to be fit can be worse than the disappointment of the decision to defer. If by Feb you have any doubts, be honest with yourself. There are other events, and Manchester will come around again. Having said that, I really hope the rest and physio work do the trick and you can get back on track. As it's your first marathon, at least you know you will PB, whatever your finish time. Your training only needs to focus on covering the distance π
Oh no, this is rubbish, Iβve struggled with plantar fasciitis in 2023 and couldnβt run for 12 weeks, I got to the root of the problem by visiting a physiotherapist and he identified weak glutes and a weaker left leg and gave me exercises each week to build up on. These did really help and it hasnβt returned but I wish I would have gone sooner as I could have been back running sooner.
Iβm entered in the marathon in April too and understand how frustrating it is when your training plan does not go to plan.
I really hope youβre PF heals quickly ππΌ
oh good news it feels better. Whatβs it feel like to walk on? Is it worse in the mornings?
It seems that as soon as we commit to a race a spoke gets jammed into our wheels! π¬π€π
I hope you can rehab the problem and hopefully make your starting line π€π
Thank you always seems to be two steps forward then two back again I'm hoping I can make it still π
I think this is where the power of positive thinking comes in π. If Iβve paid for a race thatβs another tick on the proβs column β
Take care of yourself food wise as well - sleep too. Itβs all going to help get you on the start line πͺπ
Food wise mum I've not behaved Christmas and just had my birthday but I will steadily improve that. Sleep well another π΄ one I've got to sort out but hopefully it will come together
