Thanks to Beachcomber66 for enquiring after my knee on another post 😃. I thought I’d add a little update.
Saw an orthopaedic consultant this week a month after an MRI showed a depression fracture and other injuries of my right knee following an a**se over elbow incident! The fracture is healing nicely but he was more concerned about the ACL damage. It’s not a complete rupture thank goodness but it is significantly damaged. Apparently these ligaments don’t heal by themselves as they have no blood supply so the options are either surgery to repair/replace it, or non-surgical and to strengthen the muscles around the knee to help stabilise it. I decided to go down the non-surgical route for now. I’ve been referred for physio at my local hospital and will see the consultant again in three months to review the situation.
Luckily I’m fine to use the exercise bike at the gym and to go for walks. There is plenty I can do but sadly no running for some time. I am going to walk at parkrun this morning. Wish me luck! I’ve not walked that much for a while!
I’m sure I’ll be back to running later in 2025 and I’ll always be reading everyone’s lovely posts on here to keep up to date.
Good luck to everyone running this weekend. Thank goodness for better weather than last week! 🎉

I do wish you luck Mudita11 on recovering quickly and your walking at parkrun this morning, I am sure that it won't be long into 2025 that you can run at parkrun.✅🏃
Thank you Al, I’ll be running as soon as I’m given the go-ahead. Hoping to visit relatives in Glasgow sometime in 2025 so perhaps a parkrun with the legend AlMorr is on the cards. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼!
Good morning Mudita11. That isn’t the news I was hoping to to hear, but it is good that you know what you are dealing with and can now start on a recovery programme. That always makes me feel better. Give me a recovery plan and I channel all of my frustrations into making it work; I suspect that you will do just that. Tendons have a design defect😡!
What we runners need to see is progress; but you know all of that. I had to laugh at your at your a**se over elbow metaphor. My dad used it, but my mother got him to tone it down to “base over apex”; when she was in earshot. We knew what he was thinking though 🙂.
Heal well and steadily. In the meantime, it is nearly Christmas. Stuff to do and a bit of diversion helps. Drop in and tell us things are going; we look forward to the day you lace up and make your return to running. In the meantime; recovery exercises it is. 🎄🙂
🤣 🤣 thanks BC. I’ll add the occasional update but will keep reading everyone’s posts here (albeit often a few days behind!). I will work hard doing exactly what the experts advise. When I start running again I’ll have quads like Arnold Schwarzenegger so watch out world 🫣😆😁
So frustrating for you! At least you are getting attention and are on a path to do something about it. I have to say I quite enjoy parkwalking and, if PBs are your thing, it's surprising how much you can shave off your time by adapting your walking technique by walking with purpose! Some parkruns have a fairly big walking contingent (many of whom are injured runners!) and there's a lot of good chat to be found back there in the walking pack!
The running day will come; the more immediate challenge is to find ways to enjoy the break as bast you can. Sending healing vibes and very best wishes 🥰
Thanks Linda. I had a great natter with the other two tail walkers today as well as some of the runners/walkers. I’m going to stay involved in parkrun and running in general throughout my rehab. Such a marvellous crowd xx
It's easy to stay in touch - through our HU forums, parkwalking and volunteering at events (Runthrough have loads of opportunities my way, maybe near you too) - and well worth it 😊
At least you have a diagnosis which is positive news 🙂
Hopefully physio, and staying mobile, will get you back to running. Walking at Parkrun is fun!🙂 Lots of folks are doing it. It will help keep your spirits up too😀
Thanks for the update Mudita11 Such bad luck. The cycling will work wonders on the muscles around your knee and with everything else you can do, you’ll be in fine form once you start running again.
Once a runner always a runner and your approach will keep you on the path of the running faithful. I wish you well with your full recovery x
Thank you very much IP. I’ve got so many running shoes and clothes I can’t possibly give in to an injury. I’ve been quite enjoying using a stationary bike at the gym. I’ll be back to running next year sometime for sure 😃 x
Sorry to hear about your ACL Mudita - bit of a design fault not to have a 'heal' function! Still at least you have a diagnosis and a plan - half the battle I think. Best wishes for as speedy a recovery as possible 🤞
Thank you Ali. Parkrun was quite enjoyable. Lots of nattering as we walked along. I volunteered to tailwalk as they were one short so I got a volunteer credit as well as another parkrun under my belt 👌🏻 xx
Yes you certainly do Sue! Parkrun was great thanks. When I arrived they were short of one tailwalker so I did that! That was the furthest I’ve walked since my knee injury. Maybe we can tailwalk together at Lowestoft when I come up!! Xxx
Aww Mudita11 , that sounds like a long time off running - ironically your description of your ACL recovery is identical to what Floasie is going through! 🥰
Thanks Cheeky. Honoured to have something in common with the beautiful Flossie 😍😍! Lovely to see on Strava that you have been walking again with her beyond your garden xx
Glad to hear you have a diagnosis and a plan. I know it’s probably frustrating not being able to run, but thankfully you can keep active so that you can return to running when you’re ready xx
Thanks Sandie, yes it’s a relief that I can cycle and walk. I think I’d go nuts if I were unable to do any activity! I’ll be running again by late 2025 with any luck 🤞🏼 xx
It’s going to be a bit of a long haul but your attitude is so positive and I’m sure that’s going to be a big factor in your rehabilitation. Good luck with the exercise bike etc as having a plan is so important. I hope your recovery is swift despite my earlier musing!
Thanks Brian. I’m off to the gym in a minute to get on that exercise bike! Been watching lots of videos on YouTube for non-surgical ACL recovery too. Got to keep as fit as possible for the big comeback 🤣🤣. Hope you are doing ok too.
Thanks for giving us an update Mudita11 , I was wondering if you’d got an appointment yet. It sounds like you got in pretty quickly, thank goodness. It’s good that you can cycle, as that will keep your stamina and fitness up and definitely worth going down the physio route first.
Fingers crossed that the walking helps too. I know how much you love your running and how difficult it is on the IC, but I’m sure you’ll be back in time.
Thanks Dexy. Got my first NHS physio appointment in mid January and in the meantime I’ll be at the gym a lot. Being sensible though, for once 😆!
I am a bit sad that I won’t be able to do the races I’ve already booked up - Romsey 5 Mile in January, Cancer Research London 10k in February, Eastleigh 10k in March (currently arranging transfers and deferrals). A few others later on. But I will be volunteering lots and keeping up my general fitness. I’m guessing that by late 2025 I should be able to run, fingers crossed 🤞🏼 🤞🏼 . Might see you at a local parkrun in the meantime as I plan to be a talk walker tourist for a while 🤣 xx
A shame about those races, but I’m sure they will understand if you are asking for a deferral rather than a refund. There are also some race organisers that reward you for volunteering at their races with points towards future races, so you could still get the vibe and cheer others on.
You are of course always welcome at Southsea. We hope to be on a new course in 2025. I’ll keep You posted.
Thanks for sharing your news Mudita. glad to hear you have a plan for recovery, albeit a steady and possibly frustrating one. This time of year is excellent for walks (although I suggest you stay away from the muddy areas, don’t want you slipping about). It’s lovely to be in the fresh air and enjoy being out. Enjoy your ParkWalk, a great way to keep in touch with running and keep adding to your Parkrun tally. You will be very welcome at Stratford, come and we will go to the theatre as well. They are so supportive of runners on a recovery path too. Looking forward to hearing more news from you in the New Year.
