It is starting to feel a little βbackendishβ up here; our young Maple tree has already changed colour, but I am sure that our hardy racers will have found some opportunities in November. Running in the forest is beautiful at this time of year; leaves changing colour and lots of squirrels collecting nuts for the winter.
All you have to do is reply to this post below and share details of the race; distance, date, venue and, preferably, a link to the race website. We will then enter details on our spread sheet which you can view here:
I think this works both ways; support for racers, and inspiration for anyone who might be thinking of taking part in a race for the first time. We would love to hear from you.
From your team; linda9389 Irishprincess and me π
Hi BC66, I am not a November racer but a October 2025 racer, after Sunday's Great Scottish Run which I enjoyed very much I have now signed up for next years event.
Not a recovery run BC66, however, I ran a 5K this morning near to where I live in a time of 33:29, the weather was really nice, dry, light east wind with a temperature of 11C, dispite a "cheap" early entry fee for next years run the cost was Β£10 dearer than for this year's event.
BC66 there is a excellent video of the half marathon runners running up that hill accompanied by a rock choir singing great songs, the video lasts 47:13 minutes and the title is*Glasgow Half Marathon 2024", certainly worth a watch and listen.
I felt fine after I ran the 10K of The Great Scottish Run, as I passed that choir singing I thought to myself that the next day I would search YouTube for a video of them singing, I found it, they are a very good choir.
We planted it three years ago; a gift from friends as a living reminder of Jill (who was a permanent resident of Canada). It may be transplanted into the forest if it becomes too large for the garden.
I was thinking βthat came around quicklyβ but realised that what was in my head was the Half you did in Cleethorpes recently. Muddy last year; hard going, but you got through and wisely hit the chippy immediately afterwards. Happy ending! November is a tough month for a marathon, but when the going gets toughβ¦β¦.Hope your training goes well.
Thank you π. Itβs going to be muddier as there are more runners involved so churning up of the trail parts of the course π«€. It gets very slippery on the tight turns - hence the need for grippy shoes π
I think thereβs a 30 k run on the plan for tomorrow π¬
I didnβt do it! There was an early kick off which I wanted to listen to so I put it off til Sunday, and then I got roped into lining a wall. Grrrrrrrr π€¬
the physio appointment was thorough today π¬ eek! Painful at first but after his magic thumbs I felt much better. 20 single leg calf lifts to assess where I was at, and some resistance/strength exercises. Iβve got another appointment before my race, and one afterward, βso we can talk about itβ, he said π
I jogged there and back, had a coffee once home, and then back out for a 45 minute recovery run. All good ππββοΈ
Weβve got a weekend away at the seaside before then so I thought run the Park Run there. It starts and finishes near the hotel, which is handy ππββοΈ
The marathon hotel is booked. OH is paying π. Just got to check he asked for a room with a bath π
On catchup tonight! Itβs sausage time again in November BC: the 2nd Winter Series 10k is on 17th November. Toad in the Hole will be on the menu again π tempoevents.co.uk/events/wi...
Yay !! That will replace the calories expended on your trip to Berlin and set the two of you up plus kittens for Christmas! I have added Katnap in too. It really feels as though winter is on the way now!
Iβm going to do the Severn Bridge 5 night race on November 21st. Iβd planned to have a go last year and got a stinker of a cold. Hoping to stay well this year!
Got you MissU. 5 miles starting at 7:30 pm; definitely a night race! The pictures of previous races show people really enjoying themselves. I am sure that it will be a great evening π.
Thank you! Some friends have done it and apparently the atmosphere is brilliant. Iβll be treating myself to some glow sticks and glow in the dark make up!! Not my usual pre race kit shoppingβ¦.
It starts at 17:30 hrs so not really night time but will be dark. The most nuts thing of all is that Iβm doing it entirely for the bling. Iβll add a pic in the comments π€£
Hi Beachcomber66 . Sad to report that I am withdrawing from this epic nighttime trail run as I have a knee injury that just wonβt heal. Iβve seen a physio a couple of times and I have an MRI booked for this coming Friday. Fingers crossed that itβs something fixable. Devastated that I now wonβt be earning that amazing medal but being sensible for once in my life. Itβs the IC for me though Iβll still be going to parkruns and walking it!
I have liked your reply, but I donβt really mean that! That is a very sad report indeedβΉοΈ!
An MRI is a really good move; the sooner you know what you are dealing with the better. At that point the recovery process starts. I can do any amount of exercises once I know they are the pathway to my getting back to running. π€ there is an easy and relatively quick fix.
Let us know what happens. You need flowers πΉπͺ»πΈπΊπ·π»ππ₯πͺ·ππππ
and maybe a glass of something π·π·π·π·π·
Thanks BC for the words and the flowers and the wine suggestion π. It all helps. Iβm actually looking forward to the MRI as Iβm impatient to know what the problem is and to start fixing it. My VO2 Max went down a point following last weekendβs slow run/walk. Most annoying. I must get this sorted out π€£
A really good way to remember people to whom we owe so much Reggit. I have put your event on the spreadsheet.
I hope the weather is a bit better this year. I awoke this morning to a beautiful sunny start to the dayβ¦and a temperature of 5 degrees π₯Ά. May be a leggings morning!
Here are my races for November: Sunday 3rd Leicestershire Festival 10k, Sunday 17th joining the Kats for the Sausage run, Tempo winter series - I can't do the whole lot so am doing this one so I don't miss out on sausages and running (ha ha) up the hill. and Saturday 23rd I going with TailChaser and maybe Sandie1961 to do Draycote Water 10k.
TailChaser has covid and flu jabs on the Saturday so we have decided to not do the Leicester Festival on the 3rd Nov. Instead I will be doing βa long runβ at home and TC will join me for all, part or just the coffee at the end depending on how she feels.
Well, it's time to commit! Provided my leg holds out for another few days, I will be running the Hertfordshire 10k on Sunday 3rd November. No PB on the cards, just an enjoyable run with race magic π
