So my plans for the Cardiff Half went to pot when my cat got hit by a car (we still have him❤️) and then I promptly went down with covid! I have to be honest, it hit me harder than the first time I caught it but fortunately getting back to running has been good - but I just couldn’t make up those lost weeks of training in time.
Never mind, we are runners - this happens!! So, refocus on my next goal which is the Great South Run on 20th October. I opted to stay on the local roads today (rather than my lovely trails😍), thinking this would be better preparation for a 10 mile road race. I chose a 6.5K loop that I often use - it’s mostly away from the main road and relatively quiet, it has a few ups and downs but nothing too scary!
The plan was 13/14k and happily I managed to complete 14k. The weather was mild and the sun was shining.🙂 I ran very much to feel, keeping my pace slow - and most of this run felt good. Yes, it was also good to get to the end but I think I could have plodded on further had this been race day…
So, one more long run next weekend and then fingers crossed I will make it to the start line of the Great South Run! 🤞

Oh no, you have really been through it Sandraj39 , I hope your cat is recovering. Sorry to hear that you can’t do the Cardiff half; it sounds like a good HM.
Well done for achieving 14k having had Covid- it is so debilitating. But having done that, then you should be fine on the 20th. You are certainly ahead of me - that is next week’s target.
I am just hoping we have a lovely day like we’ve both had this week.
Yes, the weather was fab yesterday too. I’m looking forward to being part of the support team at Cardiff and have my sign ready to cheer on everyone who’s made it to race day! Definitely one to try next year - my son and my sister are running it tomorrow (as well as cheekychipmunks of course!)
impressive running Sandra, and I love your attitude. I’m slowly increasing my long runs as preparation for a HM in December and I’m finding it hard, so thank you for showing me the way.
Oh your poor cat Sandraj39 , I’m relieved he made it though 💔🙏❤️
I’ll look out for your excellent sign tomorrow! Shame you can’t take part, but covid really knocks you for six doesn’t it? Hopefully next year for Cardiff! 😀
Sorry about your cat but hope it is recovered now too. COVID is horrible - I'm battling school induced colds that keep going to my chest and stopping me running so I know how annoying that is. Good luck for the GSR!
