So my plans for the Cardiff Half went to pot when my cat got hit by a car (we still have him❤️) and then I promptly went down with covid! I have to be honest, it hit me harder than the first time I caught it but fortunately getting back to running has been good - but I just couldn’t make up those lost weeks of training in time.
Never mind, we are runners - this happens!! So, refocus on my next goal which is the Great South Run on 20th October. I opted to stay on the local roads today (rather than my lovely trails😍), thinking this would be better preparation for a 10 mile road race. I chose a 6.5K loop that I often use - it’s mostly away from the main road and relatively quiet, it has a few ups and downs but nothing too scary!
The plan was 13/14k and happily I managed to complete 14k. The weather was mild and the sun was shining.🙂 I ran very much to feel, keeping my pace slow - and most of this run felt good. Yes, it was also good to get to the end but I think I could have plodded on further had this been race day…
So, one more long run next weekend and then fingers crossed I will make it to the start line of the Great South Run! 🤞
