Organ Donation is a subject very dear to me because my niece is a SNOD (Specialist Nurse Organ Donation) at The Royal in Wolverhampton. Her job is to support the families of potential organ donors from the point of bereavement until surgery for the recipient. She is a woman who I admire for her dedication to her job, her empathy with the people in her care and her professionalism. Hers is a job I couldn't do and I know how hard she works at all hours. I've had the pleasure of watching her grow from a small child into the amazing woman, mother and nurse she is now.
I'm posting this here because she has asked me for help and I'm hoping some of you can assist me with it. This week is Organ Donation Awareness Week and they have a campaign called 'Race for Recipients'. They are not looking for money and there is no medal, but if you could sign up and add the miles you ride, walk, run etc during the week to the website, it would be much appreciated. More information and sign on can be found at raceforrecipients.com (where you can also find more information about how your wishes for organ donation can be recorded on the Organ Donor Register).
I understand that you may wish to support a group in your area but if you don’t have a particular team that you want to be part of, my niece would appreciate it if you could join hers (there is a bit of friendly rivalry between teams and regions to get the most miles). Just select ‘Midlands’ as your region and ‘The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust’ as your team, then log all the kms/miles you do this week (including this last weekend which you can do retrospectively).
The Campaign runs from 6.00am 21st September to midnight 29th September.
Please feel free to encourage any members of your family or friends to do likewise.
Thank you so much.
p.s. if you are concerned that in signing up you will be badgered by emails nagging you to sign the register, You won't! I signed up to the Race4Recipients last year and the only email I've had from them was for this years race.
