And another fall!😫.

anyone else so accident prone as me?? I know falling is a hazard of running, but is anyone as clumsy as me? So I've been taking it a lot easier these last few weeks, still suffering with extreme fatigue whilst various tests are being done, so I thought I'd do a steady ParkRun on Saturday. Well, that was going well until.................... whack, down I went, and you know that feeling, when you feel yourself going, there's not a lot you can do. Unfortunately although its a park, it was on one of the concrete paths, typical!

The result, horrible scabby knees , bruised ribs and skin off both hands. I think I'll go out with skin pads, knee pads and gloves on Saturday! 🀣

Oh no! I may just be that person! I'm pretty nervous these days and tend to be extra cautious ...but I daresay I haven't taken my last tumble yet πŸ˜€Heal quickly and good luck with the tests too xxx

Yep, I must admit after my last bad one, which I still have the scars on my ribs from, I always worry about falling. The one on Parkrun on Saturday, I just don't know what happened really, other than I'm still struggling with my running, combined with being very stressed at work and stuff going on at home, I guess I was over tired and just not picking my feet very well! πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Slow down, take care and just try to enjoy the ride for a while πŸ₯°

Yep, it's taken 3 years for me to realize that you can't go all out all the time! πŸ₯΄

Ouch! I hope that heals up quickly Hedgehogs123 and they get to the bottom of your fatigue.

I had a nasty fall a year ago towards the end of a 100 metre race and I still have the scar on my right calf where my spikes caught me.

It's awful isn't it, I know it comes with the territory, but it's still a pain ( literally)and a shock when it happens. Yep I've still scars from my last fall last year..πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Dear Hedgehogs123 ….Ouch! That does look sore. I hope you feel better soon and your tests have a positive outcome. Thinking of you πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ₯°x

It's a real nuisance, right at the time I least need it. Think I just need some decent rest, just not possible though at the moment, too much going on at work and home! πŸ₯±

I still bear the scars of my big stack last year. I will never again utter the words β€œIt’s just a graze” to my boys again. Hope all is well with your tests & you heal quickly. x

Thank you, yes,as I was saying above, I know it comes with the territory but when it happens (again!) It does make you a bit nervous. It's a real nuisance as I have to keep the area clear of any material because it's now halfway between scabbing over and the horrible weeping bits. Hopefully another week and it start to dry up. πŸ₯΄

Very sorry to hear all that Hedgehogs123 , I thought you'd been quieter recently.

All my running injuries have come from falls, four in just over three years. Like RunWillie I carry permanent scars and bumps from my faceplant, and it damaged my confidence too.

Heal well, and I hope the tests are reassuring.

Yes, know what you mean completely. This is my second bad fall and it has made me really wary of falling again. As I've said to Linda above, I think I'm over tired, a lot going on, home ,work and emotionally and we all think we're super human and then something happens to remind us we're not! Meant to be in leave next week, but got so much work, Im struggling to see how I can take it, but sooooo tired so do need it! Had 6 weeks of my Theraplate treatment for the groin strain which I think was helping, but think I pulled it again when I fell as last couple of days it's hurting again. Luckily I'm booked in next Wed for another treatment. I will do a write up on it, when I've got a bit more time.

Hope you're ok? πŸ€—

Oh you do sound like you've got a lot to cope with, no wonder you're tired. Please take that leave, you're entitled to it and you obviously need it. If you're feeling bad about not being at work, then remind yourself that if you don't have a break you might end up on unplanned sick leave rather than planned holiday. (Yes, this is the voice of experience...)

Good that the Theraplate was helping the groin strain, but not that it's hurting again. I know it's super-frustrating, but maybe taking it easier for a while is the best solution?

I'm fine, thanks for asking. Been dealing super-badly with the heat, even though you'd think I'd be used to it after months on end! Spent the past few months gaining weight and losing fitness, only running 2-3 times a week, very slowly and mostly around 5k. Did 11k this morning just to prove to myself I could, but I have a very long way to go, literally and metaphorically, if I'm ever to get back to anywhere near where I was.

Hope your 10K next week goes well, and rest assured, however slow you might think you are, you'll be way, way faster than me! πŸ€—πŸ˜˜

I kept writing my reply and the getting distracted. Well I've take the weeks leave, but day 1 this morning had to deal with work issues first thing. It just seems to be the way a lot organisations operate these days and I guess we're all silly, as the more you do, more is expected. I think it's a vicious circle though, I hate that horrible overwhelming feeling which actually tires you out even more and the end result is being less productive. My running was my sanity , but just lately with it not going well and the recent fall, I've become a bit hesitant about going out for a run. Haven't ran with running club for over 4 weeks. Maybe this is the thing that makes me think about why I started running and the enjoyment I did get..

Well done on the 11km, that must have felt good just to acknowledge to yourself that you can still do it. Like you I still have a long way to go before I get back to where I was , however with the change in season I may be better , running in cooler air. I am looking forward to running at the same time tomm morning with Folkylass, 9am, were both setting off to do our Vitality virtual 10km from opposite sides of the country! The power of this forum, I just love it! ☺️

I'm often intrigued about where you live, and tell me to mind my business if it's being a bit too nosy, just curious about how come you moved from the UK to such a beautiful place to live and run? It does sound lovely, although I'd struggle with the heat you have, I don't seem to cope very well running in those temperatures. You, along with other regulars, do a brilliant job of supporting and motivating people on here. Did you just start with C25K too??πŸ€—

What a lovely reply Hedgehogs123 , thank you.

I can definitely relate to what you say about work stuff spilling over. However, now that I'm mostly retired, I can honestly say I have never once thought if only I'd worked more.

I'm very happy to chat to you via pm about why we moved to France and so on, will keep it off forum though. It's likely to be a bit full-on for everyone.

And yes, I started with C25K, back in mid-May 2020!

Oh dear 😬 I’m sorry you tumbled and hurt yourself. You’ll soon be back out there once you’re sufficiently healed πŸ™‚πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

My husband tells me I’m the clumsiest person ever, and I’ve had two really nasty falls, but bounced back. I can’t contemplate not running.

If I’m doing fast intervals now I either do them on grass or by the side of a soft verge, or a soft stretch of the trail. I figure that if I do fall it’ll be a soft landing 🫣

I hope you heal real quick and are back out there soon. Eat some good healthy food and plenty of sleep πŸ’ͺπŸ™‚

Hiya, yes no intention of stopping but it has made me about nervous. Knees and ribs still painful after a week. Good idea though for the interval training!

Absolutely! I was doing Parkrun so got helped to my feet and kept running probably on adrenaline! Just a nuisance as it's made me wary of falling again as it's the third time! πŸ₯΄

Oh no Hedgehogs123 , I know that feeling well. You know you are going to land and are worried about which bit is going to hit the ground first . Glad you haven’t broken a wrist, but no doubt you will be very sore. Speedy recovery to you.

Hedgehogs123 profile image
Hedgehogs123Metric Marathon

horrible isn't it, makes you really nervous at falling again. Its my third fall, second quite nasty one and with the dark nights coming, I just need to practice lifting my feet better, I think when I get tired my technique isn't good, so only myself to blame. That said with the cooler nights I may start wearing thin cotten gloves to protect my hands and leggings , so I have a bit more protection if it does happen again.

Oh no! I’m also a faller-sprained both wrists, both elbows and bruised my knee tripping on a drain cover last year. I’ve also previously broken both arms falling over just walking on a pavement. It’s horrible and shakes you up. Sending masses of sympathy your way. You are not alone in this! β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ήβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ήβ€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή
