Yet another comeback!

When I switched on Garmin this morning I was surprised to see that I had not had a run for 9 days. At least I had cunningly managed to twin track time off for an Achilles problem with recovering from a dose of vaccine induced man flu!

My ankle/ heel felt ok this morning, but I have been there before. It has had a lot of TLC, with Bob and Brad exercises (I find those two hilarious) ) and other stuff I have to do for my calf which neatly benefits the heel too. Daily 20 minute icing sessions have helped too. Anyway; off I trotted into a biting wind for just 3k. I probably walked further than I ran with long warm up and warm down efforts. Result....not a hint of soreness. I wore my la sportiva trails which have a 10 mm drop; somebody said that it takes the pressure of the Achilles....certainly hasn't done any harm. 20 minute post run icing this morning, and so far all is well.

Now to get fit again!! Thanks to all for helpful tips and encouragement; you are all ✨!! 🙂

Yes low drop puts pressure on the foot from higher up the leg. Hokas might be good for the knee but they’re not for Achilles issues 😬

Hokas will be fine once the Achilles is fixed. I knew I was in bother when I couldn't manage eccentric heel dips off a step. Shhhhh....seems to be getting there.

Nice 3K you did today Beachcomber66, no run for 9 days, you were correct about running it slowly, I managed a 17K walk this morning to add to my COGH challenge, just realised if I had walked another 4K that would have been half marathon distance, perhaps next Sunday.

A little running break will have done you no harm Beachcomber66. I bet it felt good to get out again though. I wish you luck with your subsequent runs as you extend distance again. Just take it nice and slow. 🏃‍♂️👏👏

Thanks Dexy5; not planning to pull up any trees! The origin of this achilles tweak was just kicking a ball for Molly to chase in the beach. Maybe 4k next run.

Back on the merry-go-round - that's how I feel these days when injury subsides these days 🙈. Always good to be back though isn't it? Sorry to hear your post Covid jab blues lasted so long, but very happy to hear you're back out there 😊

Thanks Linda. They have all been comparatively little things; just taken ages to fix. Looking forward to getting back to swimming; that keeps everything in place!! 🙂

Oh no, hadn’t realised you have had an Achilles problem. How annoying! Well done for braving the weather. It really hasn’t been conducive to going outdoors this week. Hopefully Spring, and better weather is on the way 🤞🏻

Knee then calf then Achilles; hopefully it’s working it’s way down and out !! 🙂
