Hello runners 🙂 It’s that time again - don’t the weeks fly by?
Despite the temperatures here in the UK we still have some brave VRBs venturing out and heading to those start lines. Here are our adventurers for this weekend.
⭐️ On Saturday 00marks will be running on the King’s back garden (well, one of them anyway 🙂) at the Sandringham HM. A route of mostly trail and grassy fields, this HM will have plenty of interest along the way with the stunning building and estate watching over all the runners. Good luck 00marks!
⭐️ Also on Saturday Shake-and-run will join thousands of others for the historic 54-mile bike ride from London to Brighton. All that training will come to fruition and just think of the atmosphere! It will be brilliant and no doubt there’ll be hordes of spectators coming out to support and cheer the riders along the way. Good luck and enjoy yourself S&R and just think of the cool inviting beach at the end!
⭐️ The weekend will be over but we still have a VRB to support! On Monday over61andstilltrying will be running in beautiful Derbyshire at the Duffield 5 miles. A 7pm start and running cross country with some hills sounds like a perfect way to spend a summer evening and we wish her all the very best of luck as she has been dealing with some injuries in recent months. Clearly you’ve conquered them over61!
whoop whoop everyone running this weekend! 00marks , I am sure you were running an event last week. Enjoy your cycling Shake-and-run and watch out for the Ditchling Beacon. And over61andstilltrying , we will all be rooting for you In Derbyshire. So pleased that you feel up to doing this one after all your injuries.
Thanks very much. I did the Rothley 10K a week or so ago. The Sandringham HM will be completely different as the course is mostly on sandy trails and mown fields - a bit of a killer on the legs. The plan is to go out and enjoy and try not to fry in the heat.
Have a great time everyone. over61andstilltrying , wonderful to see you out there doing a long run; it has been a long road back..but here you are 👏👏👏👏🙂
Thank you Beachcomber. I still find that if I increase my pace too much for intervals of even just a few minutes neither my knee or hamstring are happy and I have to stop running, but I have at least managed some tempo runs recently.
I hear what you are saying. It is 4 years since I ran the Duffield 5 last. (Injury for the last two years prevented me entering) I had such fun! There were lads in their gardens with super soakers. I called out 'Get my face, get my face!' It was a very warm evening. I couldn't really believe how running allowed me to be like a child running down a hill asking lads to spray water at my face! I'd like to beat my time from then, which is not, I suppose a wise aim. We'll see.... Staying injury free and having fun should be higher priorities.
Keeping pace down, and running long distances for ages has built up my leg strength, so I am trying to lift the pace a bit now. IC since Monday’s fall of course, but hopefully that won’t hold me back for long. 🙂
Aw ... just had a read I do hope the healing process is well underway. Do you think that you have cracked some ribs?
I did see your accident on Monday I think, but it was still over busy season with too many year 11s wanting long lessons. GCSE maths finished now. Time to catch up with a back log of tasks.
Sounds like hard work. I think that I have just tweaked an intercostal muscle or two. It has started to feel easier. Bruising has now come out on my wrist and shoulder….hope that is the end of it. I am in the middle of a long train journey to the South West…enforced rest is probably no bad thing at this stage. I am a very impatient patient I am afraid!
I know IP. I came back quickly 2 weeks after Covid-19, so no reason why I can’t leave running for another week and come back quickly again. Will review then. After an 11 hour rail journey yesterday, a 2.5 hour steamship trip today (we saw dolphins) and getting in stocks of food, a coffee and finishing my book will be about it tonight! The air here on Scilly is warm and pure….sleep in no time.
Pom-poms being now being shaken here in Bristol, and then all the way to, and through, the Channel Tunnel, and then all the way through France to Brittany! Tired pom-poms, but hopefully nice fresh legs for all you intrepid HUers braving the heat this weekend. 🥵
I don't feel that I have that I have conquered my injuries. I seem to have been completing physio exercises for knee and hamstring for ages; well over a year. Hopefully some of the exercises act as strength training. I have realised that if I increase my pace for intervals even for a matter of seconds my body tells me that I shouldn't have, I have managed tempo runs without subsequent problems.
I hope to complete the course without injury and have fun too. 🏃🏻♀️😊
Massive Pom poms to you 00marks , over61andstilltrying and Shake-and-run ! Not to mention a following wind and a protective bubble against stray bicycles for Shakes. Enjoy the wonderful downhill after Ditchling, you’ll have earned every mph 💪💪💪
Good luck to you 00marks , over61andstilltrying , and Shake-and-run . Fingers crossed that you all have an enjoyable run, overcome any gremlins and nerves and stay clear of any injuries.
Thank you. Very excited already, plenty of butterflies. It is 4 years since my last race, boo to injuries! So enjoy the run and stay clear of injuries sound very good to me. 😊🏃🏻♀️
Thank you 😊 Due to a gardening fall and resultant and subsequent injuries it is now 4 years since I ran in this local race during our carnival week. I'm excited with lots of butterflies! Having an absolute ball sounds like fun! 😊🏃🏻♀️
Run well, run safe, run Happy sounds good too Oldfloss I shall definitely endeavour to. Enjoy Wales. 😊
sorry missed replying to this as was deep into some rather complicated pre-event logistics. The Pom Poms were very much appreciated. Full ‘run’ report to come (once my photos turn up).
