Hopefully I'm allowed to feel super chuffed?!! I ran my first HM at Boston (Lincolnshire not USA) yesterday and did it in 1.59.05, plus I was third in my age group. This marathon and HM is apparently known for being the flattest UK marathon, and yep it's definitely a flat course. All round the fens and country lanes of what was a very warm day. I took everyone's advice, rested well the week before, well hydrated,& food and sleep monitored leading upto it plus baked and took with me some of the recommended ' power' flapjacks.

I stayed fairly near the back when the gun went off and had a steady first 3 or 4 miles running alongside an experienced HM runner from our running club, before I felt myself settling down, with nerves gently ebbing away.

I felt really good and strong for the first 8 miles and was accompanied by another guy not from our area who ran with me for a couple of miles, until he got a second wind and ran ahead. I then ran with a seasoned marathon runner who had decided that morn to switch from full to half. Having said that, he dropped off at10 miles so I ran the remaining 3 miles on my own, just taking in the moment, and visualising the finish and how I would feel when I'd actually done it!

When I turned the corner and saw the finish line, I glanced at my watch, and thought ' I can do this, sub 2hr here I come!. Isn't it surprising where you suddenly get that energy from?!

All in all, I loved it!! However, can I ask, is it normal to feel quite flat the morning after?? , I guess because all the excitement has gone..πŸ€”πŸŽ–οΈπŸŽ–οΈ

No idea why my photo is sideways on, you'll just have to turn your head or phone to look at it!! 🀣

I’ve been waiting for your report. Amazing run. Really really well done, you did brilliantly and you make it sound like a breeze. I felt very flat after my HM and I think it is fairly common. You’ve got another event to look forward to though haven’t you?

Enjoy the medal and the feeling of achievement πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Well done! That’s a great time right there! You must be chuffed to bits. And congratulations on coming third in your category too πŸ‘ Those flapjacks are really something aren’t they? πŸ˜‚

It sounds as if you really enjoyed it all and you were strong throughout.

I can’t say I have ever felt flat the next day but I know it’s fairly common and normal so no doubt after a few days you’ll be feeling ok again. You do know what the answer is? Book another race!

The hills probably did, not so sure about the trails, I find them so different from road running. Though in fairness my steeper routes are on trails anyway!

Great run and a great result there Hedgehogs, congratulations!

I think it's common to feel flat afterwards: after being focused for a long time on training it's suddenly all over and it can leave a void in your life.

yes I couldn't believe how flat I felt yesterday. But Im now focused on the next big event which several of us are doing in May, The Yorkshire Three Peaks. Training starts again on Saturday, so hopefully that will lift me again!

Whoop whoop! Congratulations Hedgehogs123 you are a superstar for doing that in sub 2 hrs and bling and T-shirt to boot. Attaching yourself to other runners is a great way of pacing yourself.

I have heard that a lot of people feel flatness the next day, particularly after something like the London marathon. When you think about all the prep you have put in, and all the hype around it, it’s not surprising really.

Wear your medal to remind yourself how awesome you are.

aww thank you πŸ™. Yes I was discussing it with some of the other people in our running club yesterday and some of the others said the same. There's something about running that just gets more and more addictive!
