Iโll admit it โ this weekโs marathon chat is both an excuse to spam you with another photo of my dog, and to do a bit of herding myself!
Jediโs part Border Collie, part Bernese Mountain Dog (probably...) and as such, heโs given to herding. As heโs not allowed near livestock, he feels duty-bound to hone his unsubtle, goofy, noisy technique on his hoomans.
So, in best well-meaning yet possibly unintentionally infuriating Jedi style, I'm going to herd all you lovely VRBs towards assorted posts (NB which I've updated again on Tuesday at 20h20 BST):
๐ฝ You can still join in the fun of the HUHM or 10K: healthunlocked.com/marathon... If your circumstances have changed, no problem, you can swap distances or withdraw - just do whatโs right for you!
๐ง Weโd love to hear your suggestions for the HUHM10K playlist too. Please reply here healthunlocked.com/marathon... and do include a Spotify link if you possibly can. It saves time hunting around, and ensures we know the preferred version of your suggested tracks. ETA: mega thanks to ย TailChaser who's been doing an amazing job adding links to our playlist spreadsheet!
Oh, you wanted some running chat too? Not just my barking at you? Well, like Jedi, I much prefer running among the trees to staying on roads, and Iโm apt to get distracted by whatever I happen to come across during a run. This past week itโs been elevation again โ but oh, my knees!
So howโs your running going? Whether youโve triumphed, experienced setbacks, or just got on with things, weโd love to hear from you!
Run safe, run injury-free, run happy! ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ

lovely dawg ๐ฅฐ Iโd like another dog to run with as my borrowed one has hung up his running lead ๐. I like the idea of it but not the realities๐
Running is going ok but I should have run the half marathon yesterday. The one I missed weeks ago at Monsal. I still donโt feel fit enough though ๐ Iโm going to give it a whirl though just to see how far I get. She who dares โฆ.. sorta thing.
Not today though. I have to go and commune with my vegetables ๐ฑ๐
Have a great week yโall ๐ช๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐ต๐ถ
Thanks misswobble . Tbh I don't really run much with Jedi - there's the occasional 5k on roads, with him on a canicross lead, but I'm not risking it on forest paths. Walks are much better fun!
Good luck for your HM distance! Must be a year since I last managed that. Have signed up to the HUHM regardless, on the basis that I can always pick an easy route, though that feels like cheating. Previous route is currently out due to the crazy Anatolian Shepherd Dog (?) that's guarding sheep. It goes for my car so am not letting it get near me!
Hope the veggies enjoyed the communing and will respond appropriately!
My dad insisted on growing tomatoes sci-en-ti-fi-ca-lly. This involved calculating water and feed down to the last ml, and ventilating the greenhouse according to precise temperatures and specified times of day. As a teen it was far less stressful babysitting the neighbours' kids than looking after a dozen tomato plants!
As a fellow gardener Missw, youโll understand my frustration with the two deer who visit our garden.. While they are beautiful to look at, Iโve discovered they are eating my tulip buds ๐ฑ I thought it was the squirrels but then I saw the deer actually do it ๐คฌ
itโs a pain but we love the wildlife so we put up with their antics. I covered my raised beds after weeding etc but something always gets in ๐. Itโs usually cats. I canโt moan though as they deal with the mice ๐.
Iโve got one! My husband has moved it somewhere though. I was trying to find it to rig it back up to watch the blackbirds nesting in the log store. I wanted to be able to observe the hatchlings Heโs put it somewhere safe ๐
Itโs been good for fox and hedgehog spotting ๐
It links to a computer for better quality viewing but I canโt fathom how to do it. The instructions are incomprehensible โบ๏ธ
I tried my new phone battery case first thing this morning. I downloaded a 10 mile run, did the run with audio commentary, stopped at the cafe for coffee, came home and took Molly for a walk back to the cafe (today being sausage day), and it is now 16:39โฆ and I still have 100% charge on my phone! Zero chance of CB being cut off in his prime on long runs! A huge success. Thanks misswobble ๐.
Whatโs your battery case? I have a special pocket in my ski jacket that preserves battery, but can hardly wear it for running ๐๐ฅณ I have a portable power bank but itโs a bit heavy to cart around!
There are lots of them on Amazon Sandie. It is just a slightly heavier mobile phone case with a built in charger. It has a lug which fits into the charge point of the phone. You charge up the phone and charger together. You can either leave the charger on, which I did on my long run, or switch off and just switch it on when your phone needs a charge. My phone objected when I tried to leave it switched on during the mains charging process (Apple incompatibility message) but it has been fine otherwise.
I got my phone mended today. I ran to the repair shop and ran willy nilly til I had to collect it. Itโs a bit rough on the two top corners now but the battery case top piece should cover it. Ran home singing by the old canal ๐ต๐ถ (song clue there ๐)
Erk! Not so fast! I broke the new screen on its first outing! ๐. It still had the protective film on it. Dropped it on limestone chippings at the start of the trail. Cracked from top to bottom etc ๐ซฃ
Liking out of sympathy misswobble , not for the newly smashed screen. I bounced a camera into its afterlife when I went to watch theTour de France a few years ago. Riders were still hours away, I was only after a photo of decorations and slogans on the road!
Iโm going to try & get back to 30miles this week after taking it easy for the last two weeks after my HM. Camping was fun!
Iโm so looking forward to next months half. Iโve just ordered some new fuel to try out. Still trying to get that right. The Huma + gels did not sit well on race day ๐
Thank you to everyone who is organising the HUHM10K โค๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Good luck with your next half RW, I hope it goes better. I used Huma and, though it didnโt do anything to my tummy (gels donโt seem to agree with me), it didnโt seem to give me a boost either ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ Apricots and jelly babies seem to work better ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ Itโs all trial and error isnโt it?
I donโt mind those as I can swallow them whole. I took some fruit pastilles on my long run last week just because they were lying around. But they werenโt very satisfactory, too small to suck properly and it took ages to get rid of them ๐
Iโm sure my next HM will be much better as Iโm planning to run it easy. I will give apricots a go. The problem I have with buying sweets for long runs is that I have no self control & I eat them outside of running๐คฃ
Thank you RunWillie , and that's such a lovely photo, I might nick it!
30 miles again? I'm in awe, as usual! I tried one gel, once. I survived - I loathe gelatinous textures - but that's as good as it got. I usually take little snacks like nuts, dried apricots, dates, Decathlon, almond paste bars, and occasionally airdried sausage. Though I've been doing such short distances recently I've not needed to fuel!
I was OK with Tailwind for a while, but definitely can't stomach it any more. I like veloforte products if you can get those, or gu chews or clif blocks - more like jelly than gel.
Iโve got some chews coming from Pure sports nutrition & some endurance fuel so Iโve got some variety. I liked the Pure gels so hopefully their other products will work for me. I will certainly keep your suggestions in mind if that doesnโt work. Thanks so much. I feel like if I can get the fuelling right - I can run Boston ๐คฃ
Well, blooming setback city this end. Wonโt bore you with the really, really, really annoying details, but after a run left me in a lot of pain last weekend, Iโve decided to take at least a few months off to sort everything out. I want to do it properly so I can run in future years! Got the physio tomorrow so will know more then. So my Strava account will be looking rather flat ๐ญ
Thank you so much! I had it good for quite a while, but if this is what I need to do to be able to have many more years, then so be it. (Teeth gnashing just a little bit ๐คฃ).
Hi misswobble ha ha it is what it is! Do you know what, though, pre menopause I donโt think this would have happened. I am FALLING apart ๐. Anyway, into week 3 and still in a bit of pain but doing physio diligently. I shall vanquish the couch and come back stronger! I flipping hope so anyway. Lord I miss running though. ๐๐๐
Oh ย Frenc , such a pity, I know you were enjoying being back, and you'd been taking things gradually too. It's undoubtedly the right decision to get proper advice and look to the long-term (says she who completely failed to do that) but so frustrating in the long-term. Jedi sends positive woofs for the physio visit!
Thanks Cmoi ! It is so frustrating, but Iโm thinking longer term. Instead of repeating C25K in Jan I probably should have taken the time off then, but isnโt hindsight wonderful ๐คฃ. I was a bit tearful last Monday when I decided, but in my head Iโm still a runner whoโs made a very sensible decision!
Yes! You know every day I donโt run, I feel itโs another day my leg is improving. I really intend to get it sorted once and for all, I donโt want to have to take this time off again, so if it takes months, so be it. Future proofing my runs is what it is! Itโs weird though as a quarter of my weekends have been taken up with long runs up until fairly recently - lots of spare time now which is actually a real luxury ๐คฃ.
Thanks Cowladyrunning everyoneโs being so kind ๐. Hopefully tomorrow Iโll have a better idea and can plan accordingly. Whatever needs doing will be done!
Thank you so much Dexy5 although Iโve upgraded myself to an injury throne (with comfy cushions of course ๐คฃ). I printed out a picture of hamstring musculature to take to the physio, and am going to point out where it hurts then say, โover to you Mr. Physioโ!
Thatโs what I call good preparation, although I think the physio will find the problem soon enough once he lays his hands on you, ๐. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
I used to mark the painful spot with ink until I realised that my physio could feel the injured part quite easily! She does appreciate detailed Info about the context for the injury and my current running patterns. Or she says that she does. It takes my mind off the pain anyway.๐
Love your dog pictures. I had a Collie X German shepherd years ago, and she used to herd all her toys in one place, one day I arrived home to find all 5 of my cats sat in the corner with her looking so proud, don't know how she managed that! Running? A bit here and a bit there, nothing very exciting but keeping going
They just sat in the corner when I got home, she came to greet me and they just got up and walked away, Parker gets on well with my daughter's collie but he is definitely boss
Thanks SueAppleRun . That's wildly impressive, cat herding! Jedi is basically a big daft softie, so he'd probably end up being herded by the cats and be desperate to be rescued.
Your keeping going is really impressive, given everything you've had to cope with. Superwoman doesn't always have to wear a cape (and other dubious attire)
Trying to pick out clothes for Wednesday, it's not easy, words are written, songs are chosen, flowers are bought and arranged, just not sure what to wear, I have work clothes running clothes and slobby clothes, it's a dilemma, but first thing Wednesday morning Willows son and I are off for a run, it will help both of us get through the day
I'd go with wearing whatever you feel is going to be most you and will give you the most comfort, both physical and mental, on the day. You might not even know until Wednesday what feels right.
I'm sure that run will be very special too. Thinking of you xxx ๐๐ค
I'm so sorry I didn't realise what has happened SueAppleRun ,just read back through some of your previous posts, not been on here much lately. So sorry for your loss ๐๐xxx
Thank you, that's lovely, I've got a colleague coming for breakfast, bit sure why but I'll be glad when people stop coming so they can look sadly at me, it's better to be taken for a walk x
The funeral is the hardest thing to get through. You will have some time to yourself soon to concentrate on yourself ๐. Running on a warm day hopefully ๐ค
As a kid I had a rabbit Smokey who used to chase my cat Tigger under my dad's caravan and then guard it so the poor cat wasn't allowed out! ๐คฃLovely piccy of Jedi Cmoi ๐ฅฐ
My running been rubbish the last week, have had sore back and shoulders and no inclination to run. Had sports massage at the weekend but not 100% resolved it so maybe chiropractor next of it hangs around! Xxx
Thanks skysue16 . He'd just heard something interesting in the forest, so put his cute face on in the hope I'd let him go chase after the interesting whatever. (I didn't.) Your doggie's lovely too - Squiggy, isn't it? Are still you running together?
Ah, the return of Jedi (someone had to say itโฆ). He always looks so happy and full of beans!
Running going ok, although Iโm fed up with tight leg muscles but it could be worse (having just read SkiMonday โs post), so I shouldnโt whinge. This week is quite structured in the build up to Shakes HM on Friday. I did 8 miles yesterday, a little run tomorrow with strength work in the evening then my club run (easy) Weds evening. RD at parkrun with @katnap on Saturday to recover (?).
Had to do a long run yesterday as Iโm shaking my pom poms at the London Marathon on Sunday ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ My club have a โCheer Stationโ and Iโve got lots of people to spot. If anyone on here would like me to shake my pom poms at them ( Realfoodieclub ?) on Sunday, Iโll be at Canary Wharf, approx mile 18 with the very loud, probably pink, Fordy Runs contingent. If you canโt join them then cheer loudly for them ๐๐ฅณ๐คฉ
Extra points for your opening comment ย TailChaser and yes, Jedi is usually full of beans. One day I'll video him just before we start out on a walk and The Force Awakens!
Yay for your running and your support for others too - happy HM with Shakes, and happy LM cheering too!
(I'm now off to edit my original post to give you credit for your amazing help with the HUHM playlist, sorry I forgot to mention you in the first place, I got distracted again!)
i will be looking out for you. If you see someone waving frantically at you like they are about to burst that will probably be me. Thank you in advance for being there. Rfc x
Iโm more a cat person but I can still see that Jedi is a cute doggie ๐
Thank you for herding us this week Cmoi ๐
I have nothing interesting to report. The running is going well, the new shoes are great and I had a fab sports massage last week. Iโm keeping to a daily strengthening session so all is good.
Oh, and I threw out seven pairs of old running shoes. I had kept them to wear in the garden but even I donโt need seven pairs of shoes for this ๐ I found it quite hard which is ridiculous. All those memoriesโฆ we covered some miles togetherโฆ. goodbye my beautiesโฆ ๐ข ๐ข
I think I'm a cat-and-dog-person Irishprincess - or maybe just a monochrome beasties one, all our pets have been black and white!
So glad things are going well running-wise, you've had quite enough hassle over the past few months. As for all the shoes, you've made me feel better as I haven't (yet) accumulated that many pairs. I'm working on it though, as I've just bought a pair of barely worn Decathlon trail shoes on Vinted. At least I hope I have, I'm waiting for confirmation from the seller.
The trail shoes in which I did the Trail du Gรฉvaudan were relegated months ago to being walking shoes. Quite what I'll do when they're no good for that I don't know!
Iโm an โany animal kind of personโ too Cmoi . My current collection is Flossie, Biggie Smalls (donโt laugh) and Chester the cats, and Finn and Noggin the turtles. Quite a small herd for me. Used to have 2 horses too.
I'm currently alternating five pairs! ๐ณ That's not counting the secondhand Altras that I own but run in, nor the still-not-confirmed Vinted ones. is it better or worse that they're all different?
I'm obviously not allowed more shoes Irishprincess . Just logged onto Vinted to find message from seller saying "sorry but I don't want to sell my shoes at this price."
So why advertise them at that price and accept my payment then?! ๐คฌ Have politely ๐ replied saying I'm surprised since I'd paid the advertised asking price, and please refund me asap.
If seller doesn't respond pdq they'll be getting a negative evaluation with knobs on. I'm covered by buyer protection, so not worried about money, but really, some people.
Quite possibly, but shoes were first advertised two months ago. (Non-)Seller could've simply said sorry, not got them any more, cancelled the transaction and refunded me.
Happened to me with someone else - her husband had thrown the shoes out - and she was really apologetic, immediately refunded me without my asking. We agreed there were worse problems in life and moved on.
It's the lack of common courtesy from the other than infuriates me!
Shoes saga is set to run and run๐ ย Irishprincess ! Message today from seller after mine asking for a refund if they're not going to sell them to me at the agreed price: Sorry, been having problems with my Vinted account, will send you the shoes. ๐ค
If shoes don't arrive or aren't as described Vinted will refund me, and seller will get a negative review. More cheerfully, a bargain Decathlon trail skort, also a Vinted purchase, arrived today!
Our local running shop has a bin for old shoes and they get recycled or passed to charities who can distribute them to those in need. Often, if they are not good for running, they are still great for walking in. Iโve got 2 pairs ready to go there, saying a fond farewell to my first running shoes is easier if they donโt just go in the bin.
All of mine were seriously tatty as I had worn them in the garden too. My husband was going to the tip and I got fed up looking at them and so theyโre now in running shoe heaven ๐
One pair of old but wearable shoes got given to a free bring-take-swap event.
I also read about JogOn, so emailed (twice) to see if they'd take my old pairs, since I'm sending from outside the UK and their website gives no guidance re customs issues. They never replied so I'll research a French equivalent.
I was digging amongst my retired shoe collection the other day for some dog walking daps. I decided against as they were all pristine clean and I didnโt want to get them dirty โบ๏ธ Thereโs no hope for me ๐
I know! They were taking up so much space at the back door and I was wearing them for the garden but even so, they looked really tatty and some days I must walk a few miles around the garden so I thought, no that canโt be good for my knees either!
Hi Cmoi; Jedi is a very handsome dog indeed. Our OES shows little sign of any herding instinct, except that she automatically blocks off any dog which is trying to run past her without paying tribute! Most owners understand โshe is a sheepdog you know โ๐ฌ
I was up early this morning for the second 10 miler in the plan. It has been a funny week really. Last Monday was 10 miles, then one of the midweek runs was 12k and then 10 miles again today. This seemed like a big increase in mileage, but my brain flipped back to week 5 run 3 of C25k. I decided that the planners must know what they are doing, so I would definitely be ready for the run today! The weather was beautiful, warm, with little wind and the sun peeping in and out of the clouds.
The run went pretty well, a shade under 2 hours (a bit quicker than last week) and whilst it was way off PB time, the plan is about preparing for a HM, not 10 mile PBs (any excuse). As noted in my response to ย misswobble above, her suggestion of a battery case to stop my phone chopping of CB in his prime on long runs was a great success. It is still 100% charged now! ย Dexy5 was interested in this too.
So, a good day. I have fixed up a physio appointment for Wednesday because my leg muscles feel a bit tight and my calves are quite lumpy. I have been rolling them and using a massage ball, but I think an extra bit of oomph is required. I can feel my eyes watering already!! Happy running week all.๐
Thanks Beachcomber66 ! Sounds like you're doing really well with your plan. I keep saying I'll do longer runs, the find myself heading uphill and deciding that's an excuse for not going far.
Bon courage for the physio! I just checked my calves and they don't feel lumpy, just enormously chunky. That's a really good reason to get back to longer runs, I must stop making excuses!
๐ you have reminded me! My physio found a really knotty point in my calf post GSR. She rammed her thumb into it with the full force of her body behind it. On a pain scale of 1 to 10, this was a 20!! I donโt think things are as tight this time ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค
My week has taken a rotten turn today as my little one has โgone over the rainbow bridgeโ I'm heartbroken but we used to talk over my runs afterwards and snuggle together while I rested so I'll run on Sunday for her. Her name was Santa.
Oh, so sorry to hear that Santa's left youRealfoodieclub , though she'll always be snuggled in your heart, and will be (s)purring you on on Sunday. Have a great LM, pompoms are being prepared!
I sometimes wonder if certain colors of cats carry similar personalities. I had a cat with those same colors once and since we had four cats at the time, she did not get all the snuggling that she needed. Even so, she was rescued from the outdoors with NO claws and had become extremely skinny. We had to fatten her up with puppy food.
Santa was a typical tortoise shell, a rebel. She was at her happiest when she had stolen something. It sounds like you cat was lucky to find you and I am Sure she loved the puppy food. Rfc x
Hi Cmoi. Jedi looks like a lovely excuse to get out for a play in the woods!
Today marks 6 years since I started C25K. Back then I was always fearful that I might give up running, now I'm always fearful that I won't be able to run... How times have changed!
In about 12 hours I'm setting off for Canada again. The Vancouver HM is only 20 days away now and I wish I felt a bit more fit! For the last couple of runs I have felt like lead and both knees feel old and crocked. I had a sports massage today but he couldn't find anything specific ... which means he couldn't help! At the moment I'm thinking I'll have to treat it like a tourist trip rather than a race ๐
Congratulations on your sixth runniversary ย linda9389 ! As you know, I don't really need an excuse to play in the woods, and Jedi loves it there, so what's not to like?
You've done a fair bit of fast running over longer distances recently, are you sure that's not why you're feeling a bit tired? I'm impressed by your dedication to races - I just can't imagine racing any event, it's too much stress and hard work for me and not nearly enough fun. Safe travels, and enjoy the real-life Vancouver HM!
I'm sure I am tired ๐I do find events stressful and they are hard work but the reward I get far outweighs the effort I put in. Mentally and physically they take me to a different level and the sense of achievement I get outweighs many things in my life. As a generally non-competitive person it gives me an outlet I never knew I needed๐ I consider myself very lucky ๐
Funnily enough I can be horribly competitive. However since it's eminently clear I'll never win anything in running, I see no point in making myself miserable to move from mediocre to slightly less mediocre!
Also, as I've said before, I find the atmosphere of events intimidating, as I don't cope well with crowds, noise, running with others or the pressure to perform in front of spectators.
I do like conquering the odd bit of silly terrain or gradient though!
All the best linda9389 The day will be yours to own ๐๐ You're there experiencing something wonderful so it doesn't matter how it goes, just that it goes ๐
The flight probably wonโt help either; just to be cheerful! ๐
CBโs โset off slowly and run lightโsometimes works for me when my legs feel heavy โฆ.. but you are beyond such elementary devices. Hope things click into place for you.
Hello lovely Jedi! Love seeing pics of you! My Bob collie needs to take lessons in how to pose. Rex collie is a master and takes a great photo. My photos won't load at the moment so I can't add one but he lives up to his regal name! I still haven't run because of chesty cough but I'm going to try again tomorrow and see if I can get up the first hill without coughing ๐ I am sticking to strength training so far though. And walking with Bob (Rex has bad legs and has been overdoing it lately so has been resting) I like this running news mixed with dog news ๐คฃ
Jedi says thank you Cowladyrunning , and "ouaf ouaf" to Rex and Bob. Not good that you're still coughing - well done on the strength training though!
I was fearing I might be thrown off the forum for my abject failure to post serious running news, but since so many VRBs seem to be experiencing setbacks one way or another, it's probably just as well we've also got photos of our pets and stories of cat-herding dogs and rabbits!
I was plagued by a persistent cough a few years back and was doing all sorts to get better before a hill race. I was shovelling red hot fish n chips down my neck the evening before to grease my lungs ๐
I put some cough pastilles in my mouth at the start of the race - which was uphill from the off ๐. I didnโt cough! The body is amazing ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Iโd heard that tip from a opera singer who said thats what she did when plagued by a cough before a gig Red hot fish chips eaten straight out the fryer. I stood on the pavement outside the chippo ๐๐
I love the pictures of Bob Cowladyrunning , Jedi and Flossie on Strava. After 20 years of labradors we have been dogless for 18 months. I walk my friend's giant poodle and my nephew's collie/lab cross comes for his holidays, but I sooo miss having a dog in the house. Let me know if they need a holiday!I am in a happy place with my running and hoping to be ready for the HM on 14th May.
Thinking of those on this forum who, for a variety of reasons, are not running at the moment.
So good to hear that you're in a happy place with your running Cantstopmenow , and it's kind of you to think of all the VRBs who aren't.
Must be difficult not having a dog around after decades with labradors. Jedi does have a passport, but he's unlikely to be heading UK-wards in the foreseeable future, otherwise I bet he'd have a great holiday with you!
Jedi's so weird he'd probably run away from the waves Cantstopmenow ! He'd definitely be up for ice-cream though, would do a very nice sit, complete with poor sad deprived puppy-dog eyes.
Ah yes they do leave a hole don't they. I used to have a labrador / retriever Cross. He was lovely, but not a farm dog ๐ Now I'm only allowed collies but secretly I'd like a clean dog I could take out for walks and have in the house more.... NOT one that has always been paddling in cow muck! ๐ฌ
Iโve not owned a dog since 2007 but get my doggy fix from walking my neighbourโs. He was really poorly last week and they thought they lose him ๐ณ I noticed he was painful around his ear and sure enough the vet confirmed an infection. Heโs back to walkies again and weโll be perambulating as usual on Friday ๐
I love him to bits ๐ฅฐ. He was my running pal. He caused me to lose weight and get fit so I owe him big time ๐๐โโ๏ธ๐. His running days are over but we still enjoy frequent short walks together.
Weโve got company tomorrow. A French bulldog is joining us apparently. Walking two dogs again ๐๐
๐ how lovely and what a special relationship. Two dogs sounds challenging! I walk my friend's giant poodle a couple of times a week, he's enormous, very friendly and very bouncy. ๐พ๐พ
I used to walk the hound with a pug. It was a nightmare ๐. One pulling like a train while the other dawdled. Iโm sure my arms got longer ๐. They got on so well though and would share the pugโs small bed ๐ฅฐ. The pug sadly died last year. He hated walkies but he knew heโd never be let off so heโd trudge forlornly out the door. So funny ๐
The hound was a handful. So strong! Loves foul weather too so we had some fun out there. Heโs slow now but still loves to be out ๐๐
I love the standard poodles ๐๐. Folks have gone poodle crazy where I live. Canโt shift for em. Oh and cockerpoos. The fauve basset I walk is one of just two in the area. I can see why. I wouldnโt choose one ๐. Theyโre country dogs really and need to be away from roads and traffic. The call of the wild instinct in them is strong so recall is not in their interests ๐
Lovely to meet Jedi Cmoi, I bet you have lots of fun together.
I havenโt got any events planned this month but I di hope to extend distance gradually so that the 10ks feel easier.
UTS and I were offered places in the Vitality 10000 in London in September for just ยฃ10 yesterday. I certainly donโt need another race at that time in the lead up to the Great South Run but we did love it last year and will make the most of the time in London and get to the theatre too.
Thanks Dexy5 - yes, lots of fun with Jedi, when he's not driving me crazy that is! The Vitality 10000 sounds like a total bargain, exactly the sort of thing I'd be jumping at if only I liked events. Definitely a good excuse for a London trip.
Jedi does look such a lovely dog and perfect for the surroundings where you are. Still miss our Cocker, even after 2.5 years, although I could never have run with him; far too stop/start ๐ Anyway, my latest cold symptoms are easing so, after our Moho trip, I was back at parkrun on Saturday. My fastest PR time this year, even though 5 minutes slower than my PB, then back at my running club last night for a gentle 5k+ run. No races until a 10k in June so will just pootle for a while!
Thanks and yes, Jedi's very definitely in his element where we are Sandie1961 . Not good in towns though and has never been in a city in his life. i only run with him for short distances and when I'm in the mood for stop-startargh; it's no fun for either of us otherwise.
Well done on parkrun and running club - that sounds impressive to me, not like pootling at all!
shame I cannot take Jedi with me next Sunday I could do with a bit of chivvying!!
So Iโd like a shout out for the London Marathon on Sunday my first โproperโ marathon at the ripe old age of nearly 66 (on 29th April) having started running as a challenge for my 60th birthday to complete the couch to 5k. So lots of positive vibes needed please โฆI will need them!!
Ooh well done Candy Cool. Looking forward to reading that run report. Sounds like weโve been on a similar running journey, apart from the marathon that is.
You'll be duly pompom'ed CandyCool for the LM, never fear ๐
Jedi would completely freak out in that setting, so you'd be off like a rocket, only not around the course, just in the direction of the nearest escape route!
Thanks for hosting Cmoi and what a happy looking dog!
Never used to connect with dogs, perhaps because no pets as a child, but that changed when some friends got a Gordon Setter which appeared to take a liking to me. Many happy hours hiking across the moors with that dog.
Nothing really to report on the running front. Oh - got some new running tops - strange how easy it is to get out and run just because of having new kit! Hoping to be ready to run a virtual HM in May.
Will have a go at suggesting a song for PL, though my tastes are eccentric, so a rejection would not offend! ๐คฃ
I used to be quite scared of dogs as a child because I wasn't allowed one. Nor any other furry indoor pets, come to that. I quite liked friends' dogs, but I was permanently anxious about not knowing how to handle them - how do I put on its collar, attach its lead, walk it, what if I stroke it wrong, what if it barks...
Do let us have your playlist suggestions for the HUHM. My taste is music is also eccentric - I frequently run to Renaissance choral music - so you very likely have scope! We're not setting out to reject tracks (unless there are particularly offensive lyrics that potentially breach HU guidelines, in which case we probably couldn't use the piece in question.)
it was the beautiful Jedi that drew me to this post. I have nothing running-wise that I want to report because I am recovering from some kind of muscle trauma and trying to get myself healed.
Ah thanks LiisaM . I do hope you're fully healed soon. It can be hard to post when it feels like you have nothing to report. I think the replies to this thread show that many of us are facing different sorts of challenges, and that chatting about non-running topics can sometimes be just as welcome too.
Iโve been loving my time looking after my sonโs dog this past week who is a 3 legged Serbian Hound that he rescued.
Iโve filled everyday with fabulous walks in the most beautiful and peaceful old English woods and countryside.
He might have only 3 legs, but you would never know it as he is strong and fast and easily capable of handling himself when running around with other dogs.
Running wise Iโm getting back from a couple of annoying injuries and fingers crossed/touch wood Iโll remain injury free for long enough to get a PB or two this season. Iโm quite a way short of my times from last season at the moment but itโs getting better slowly.
Thanks, and yay for more Branko photos RunBrianRun , I've been enjoying them so much on Strava. He's beautiful, and clearly now living his best life. Well done to your son for rescuing him!
Here's to your staying injury-free and racking up the PBs and medals!
