β The HU spring 2023 main event will be on Sunday 14th May, 9.30am
BUT we will also accept runs at any time on Sunday 14th May or at any point during the following week of Mon 15th - Sun 21st May.
It's not too late to join in!!! Just comment below β¬οΈ
We can confirm that there's enough interest for us to run both the Half Marathon and the 10K distances for this virtual event. Choose either the Half Marathon or the 10k, or opt for the 'double' (be it back to back or over two separate days π).
If you missed the original announcement, there is a link to that post at the bottom of this one (along with links to all previous posts relating to this event).
β Strava club
For previous HUHM groups we have set up an optional strava club which proved very popular. The club for this event is now live: HUHM spring 2023.
Joining the Strava club is certainly not essential in order to take part in this HU event. However, if you already use Strava (or fancy giving it a try) you may like to join so we can follow each other and add our support and encouragement to each otherβs activities (not to mention throw around some kudos).
Along with lots of others, I found the club camaraderie especially useful during my first HM training - itβs great to see how people are getting on and to share experiences on a run by run basis.
So, if youβre on Strava and would like to be part of the club, request to join using this link: strava.com/clubs/HUHM10Kspr...
We will only accept people we recognise from HU; if your HU name and your Strava name are very different, could you please message me using HU private chat to let me know who you are on Strava (or add a comment to this post letting me know you've submitted a request to join) so that I donβt ignore you thinking you are an outsider!!!
I have also added a βwhoβs who?β post to the Strava club; once youβve been accepted into the group, do add a comment to let everyone in the club know your HU alter ego if it isnβt obvious. We can then follow each other and spread the kudos!
β Event start list
We will shortly put together a list of who has 'entered' already (bearing in mind that there will be no fee to change at any point and no refund if you have to pull out!)
β Keep the comments coming!
Do let us know how youβre feeling and how youβre getting on, either via the weekly chat or in your own posts.
Have fun, take care, enjoy your runs and happy training everyone π
Hi Linda, can you put me down for the 10k please π€π
After a crappy running year, (covid 3 times in 9 months, leaving me with some tightness in my chest that comes & goes) I'd so love to get back to 10k, but just being able to regularly run 2 to 3 times a week would also be brilliant!
I've done a good few 4ks this year & had just done my 1st 5k when I got a mild cold including said tightness...decided this time to stop running altogether until it feels better in the hope that would get me back to better health, but after 2 weeks off I'm losing patience...can't wait to get back to it.
And when I do, hopefully soon, I'm gonna need a plan π
Oh no, what a rough time you're having. I'll put you down for the 10k, but don't let that put pressure on you - you need to be kind to yourself, take it gently and enjoy the runs you can do. It will come back π
10k too for me please with the option to run the half marathon on the day if I feel fit enough, I'll be on week 3 of retirement, it might be too soon but it might not
Can you put me down for the 10k please Linda? Would love to do another Half but not sure I would be ready in timeβ¦π€! I guess I can switch if I find myself building up the longer runs sooner but I think the 10k is a surer bet!ππββοΈ
Iβve requested to join the Strava group. Iβm certainly in for the 10k but may do the half depending on how my HM race goes on the Ist April ππ»
And super thanks to the HM team. I always hover on here, enjoying the read. But not quite being at the point of racing or even just going beyond 10k, so almost never posting⦠except when the HU HM/10k comes along!
So the Virtual HU HM/10k are always so welcome and brilliant for me to more actively join in!
Hi Linda! Just to confirm Iβll be running the 10k at the Great Bristol 10k on Sunday 14th, then the following weekend my goal will be to run the HM too (and Iβve signed up for a virtual run meaning Iβll get bling for it π)
In the wild hope that I can avoid illness, injury and ice over the next few weeks, please put me down for both linda9389 . I probably can't do either on the exact date though!
Will think about the Strava club. While it's great to link up with other HU members, clubs always push me into making comparisons and I don't need that.
I'm in just one Strava club, which includes quite a few very serious trail runners with decades of experience (e.g. the actual UTMB) and scary numbers. Last week's leader ran 148km and 7,730 m vertical in a week! Consequently it's incredibly rare for me to get anywhere near their leaderboard and there's no pressure.
I stopped doing Strava challenges as well - too much chasing after badges rather than doing what was right for me. That's also one of the reasons I'm not currently tracking all my runs.
Wow, that's just phenomenal, not toention unreachable for most mere mortals! Whilst the HU club isn't about leaderboards, I don't know of a way to switch them off sadly.
Amazing! Those are very serious numbers. These people must do nothing else but run. Whoβs going to put the bins out and go for the food shopping? π€£
We're talking runners who do 24-hour challenges like the Bob Graham or Paddy Buckley rounds. Gets the crazy mileage and elevation done in one go, plenty of time for bins and shopping! π
Must admit that's always my first thought when I read about people doing extreme day after challenges - who's actually in the background making it possible for them?
Though in fairness the guys I'm talking about seem to be pretty normal, just super-dedicated - some may also have running-related jobs - and they tend to live in the Peak District. Instant elevation!
That's the equivalent of running a Half Marathon every day, the London Vitality 10,000 is on the 2nd May, they usually have a virtual run as well which like the Healthunlocked run can be ran any day that week.
As they say, stay safe!!! I use the strava group to give and receive support and long since gave up on comparisons (other than me to me). Your running has to be close to unique - I'm not sure how most of us could try to compare to you, other than to look on, open mouthed, at your amazing elevation gains π₯°
I think that I have (or have had) the horrible virus which is doing the rounds. Tight chest, aching ribs, night time temperature, low peak flow and raised resting heart rate. Today I have woken up feeling so much better. My chest seems to have cleared itself, peak flow is ok and the night temperature has disappeared too. My average resting heart rate is still 10bpm above its normal level of 52, but I guess it will take time to settle back. So, what now?
π€I am rarely ill (as opposed to injured!) so this is new territory for me. I reckon phase 1 is to take Molly out for a walk (she has been βgiving me the eyesβ all week!). So a gentle walk to the cafe today, suitably wrapped up. If I can keep that up over the weekend, maybe a very slow 15 minute recovery run on Monday, and then reassess. My last long run (usually a Monday morning event) was 12 days ago; a 15k. So, maybe a 5k to follow the slow recovery run and then the next run can be the long run. I might aim for a gentle 10k. Hopefully that will leave me just enough time to be ready for the May HM. I would like to be on the list anyway!!
Oh no, poor you BC. I'm glad to hear you are turning the corner though. I'd caution you to take it easy ... but I know you will π₯°I'll make sure you're on the HM list, with an easy switch to the 10k if you feel that's the right thing when it comes to it.
Thanks Linda; I like the option of a soft landing; excellent work π. Mollyβs walk went well, so I hope that things are looking up. Getting ARH right is the main indicator; staying stubbornly at 64 bpm at present!
Hi Linda, please count me in. I'd like to have a go at HM, but if that proves a step too far, can I switch to 10k closer to the time? Or be put down for both and then drop the one I don't do? What's easier for you? Thank you. Cheers, Jo
Absolutely you can. I'll put you for HM so you don't lose sight of the goal, but you can change at any point. After all it's supposed to be motivational but mostly FUN! π
Hi linda9389 could I be added to the list for the 10K please? Iβm running a βrealβ 10K on the same day, so it would be great to join in the HU fun too π Iβve sent a request to join the Strava club. Good luck everyone and happy running! πββοΈπββοΈ
Im doing the Yorkshire 3Peaks on 15th May, so won't be able to do the HM, but will plan to do a 10km that week. So I'll join the 10km group please! Am already on Strava as you know under my proper name.
Brilliant, see you on the start line π I do have a strava request with a name I don't recognise but can't tie up to your HU name (initials SP) - might that be you?
Hi Linda - please may I enter for the HM? Been wondering whether to go for this or the 10K, but my low HR running has been going well so I think I will be OK for the Half.
(Asked to join Strava Group - handle same as on here).
