There are some great deals about this week and I find myself hankering after a massage gun! ๐ My foam roller (the knobbly kind) is great but it just doesnโt get into all those nooks and crannies that I imagine a massage gun could. So my question is are they worth it? I would dearly love to hear from you fabulous folk who have experience with one.
Many thanks ๐.

I have no experience (but guess what I'll be googling tomorrow ๐), but I know TailChaser did a lot of research earlier this year and purchased one. Maybe she'll spot this and respond, or you could look through her posts or perhaps try messaging her directly via the chat option.
Hello! Thanks for tagging me in ย ย linda9389 ๐
We did splash out a bit because @katnap and I could split the cost. We got a Theragun Prime from John Lewis as I also had a voucher for money off if you spent a certain amount. Thereโs quite a discount on the Therabody website at the moment.
I chose that one because of its build quality and reputation, and also because you could hold it at different angles if the weight gets too much - Iโve got arthritis in my fingers and wrists so I had to take that into consideration. If youโre going to have something vibrating and bouncing against you, itโs going to need to be robust to last a decent amount of time.
It had the added bonus of being controllable via an app, and the app controls the time, rpm and hardness of the punches dependent on what routine you choose. There are routines for everything from boxing, to yoga, to sitting at a desk for too long, as well as warm up and cool downs for runners.
We usually pack it if weโre going away for a race too, and itโs rechargeable so you can use it whilst youโre sitting in the car etc.
I think we made the right choice, even though we donโt use it as much as we did, it comes out 2-3 times a week for at least one of us and is still going strong a year or so later.
I donโt have a massage gun but my husband bought me one of those massage balls last Christmas and itโs fab for getting into the nooks and crannies! You can get them in different sizes, mine is about the size of a big orange.
I own a Theragun since about two years ago, and it is really good, although pricey. It is complementary to roll foaming and it does help for recovery and injury prevention.
weโve covered this subject here before. A quick search should reveal ๐ค. I posted about an Irish-sounding one Seth Demoor reviewed ages ago. Heโs still using it I notice ๐. Oโ something or other ๐๐โโ๏ธ
Iโve not got one. I donโt really like foam rolling that much ๐
Thank you Miss Wobble - I agree, the search facility isnโt the easiest. I find it hard to pull up my own stuff ๐คฃ. Anyway, that looks like a great gun. Iโm still humming and haahing - perhaps Father Christmas can come up with a solution! ๐
my son splashed out and bought the expensive one when he hurt his back and we tried it on each other and it was great.
Then I bought one for ยฃ49, an unknown brand, and I find it does exactly the same job and has all the same attachments. I have had mine for nearly two years and use it every week on my calves. I have a foam roller and massage balls too but I find supporting myself on my wrists while rolling over the roller hurts my wrists.
Buy what you can afford they are both great ๐๐
Thatโs really interesting, thank you ๐, especially what you noticed between more and less expensive. More food for thought!!!
I also invested in the theragun. I have been impressed. My husband used to regularly suffer from a bad back and all his muscles would seize up for weeks sometimes. Now at the first twinge, he uses the gun and hey presto! Sorted.
The sports benefits were reviewed on 'sliced bread' (radio 4), I've just looked and it was broadcast on 28/7. Its still available on BBC Radio Sounds.
oooh, thanks. Just listening to it now as I write this! ๐๐ฝ๐ Weโre thinking of this as a hubby and wifey joint Xmas present. Hubby has tight calves, I have a few niggles with upper back and calves.
I sometimes have tight glutes and it has sorted the problem, to the extent that I dont really use it. Though I think the radio programme suggested that it improves performance if you try before a run??
