I've got a sport massage booked for Friday as my left hamstring is a little tight. I was wondering as the distances get higher are these more a necessity rather than a luxury? Or after I have had it loosened can I keep it in check just with my roller?
Any advice greatly received.

Personally I think massage is a necessity! And I feel more motivated to do my stretches and use the foam roller if I also have a massage every now and again.
I'm hoping that's the way it works for me. I think Friday's massage will help to release the muscles and then I will work harder to keep them loose. It's a bit price to have a massage too often.
I keep meaning to book up as they are supposed to be vital... I've only ever had one and I wish they had given me something to bite on to stop me screaming!! I hope it helps...
I know what you mean. I have had many sessions of sports massage because of an earlier car accident but I look forward to a good massage now for two reasons because after the pain comes the sweet release (sometimes you don't know your in pain until you don't feel it anymore) and the night after the sports massage I get the best night sleep ever.
My mate has them but her husband doesn't. He is an expert on matters skeletal so I think it's probably a luxury.
I've never had one. I suppose if we ran long distances regularly then it might be a different matter. If you can afford them, and they make you feel good, then why not ☺
Only just seen this subject. I receive a weekly sports massage. It's what keeps my ageing body going. Hang the expense. I believe it to be as essential as a good balanced diet. Mike
