The day dawned cool and sunny, with very little wind. Perfect for a cheeky 10k round my home city. ๐Ÿ˜€ I headed out to the Park & Ride nice and early and arrived at the event with a good hour to spare. I even found a rank of loos with no queue! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ The loos brought back memories of Irishprincess , as thatโ€™s where we met for the very first time this time last year when we were both running the HM! Happy days.

I was relieved not to be running that distance today. All my recent runs have been affected by a truly hideous cold, and Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™d have made it. 10k is a nice friendly distance and I felt good, although I did start to flag towards the end. It was mighty warm in the sun, and good old Bristolโ€™s โ€œfast and flatโ€ description isnโ€™t strictly true! Still, I chugged on, ran the lot and came in in 1:19:37. Not quick, but I knew I wouldnโ€™t be able to do that today.

The bling is beautiful. So heavy and chunky. Worth every step! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Without going into detail about my return P&R trip, suffice to say I didnโ€™t get home for 2 hours after finishing. I live 15 minutes away. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

well done Cheeky, looks like a very respectable time to me! Iโ€™ve been running slow this autumn, must be something to do with the time of year. The profile doesnโ€™t look very flat and your journey home sounds like a nightmare (unless the reason for your delay was a trip to the pub!). Looking forward to meeting up in a few weeks time.

cheekychipmunksHalf Marathonโ€ข in reply toShake-and-run

Thanks Shakes, I was happy with with sub 1:20 I must say. Iโ€™d like to think that Iโ€™ll regain some fitness before the GSR, but at least itโ€™s flat. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

No, the long trip home didnโ€™t involve the pub. That would have been a good reason! It did involve a 50+ minute wait for the bus, a 30 minute bus ride to the car, then a drive home full of traffic jams. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

A big congratulations to you CC on completing the Great Bristol 10K, you will be very proud of yourself, that is a beautiful bling, I am sure you celebrated that run with wine and cake.

Thanks Al. Oh yes, plenty of celebratory deliciousness has been consumed, with more to come! Thatโ€™s the bonus of running isnโ€™t it? ๐Ÿ˜…

I just remembered that you ran at parkrun yesterday, I think if I was running a 10K on a Sunday I would probably miss parkrun on the Saturday before, so well done on running both.

I did do PR yesterday Al, but it was on purpose. Iโ€™m used to running 4-5 times each week and I donโ€™t worry about consecutive days if itโ€™s โ€˜justโ€™ a 10k race.

Iโ€™ve only run a maximum of twice for the last couple of weeks since this cold, and it affected my fitness hugely. I wanted some miles in my legs to help with today. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sounds just what a 10k race should be Cheeky (a rank of loos with no queue?!๐Ÿ˜ฒ). Just draw a veil over the journey home.....

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathonโ€ข in reply toJonathanP

I couldnโ€™t believe it Jonathan. Iโ€™d passed the first rank of loos which had an eye watering queue, but I wanted to offload my bag first and discovered a secret rank. Mind you when I walked past a bit later the secret was clearly well and truly out! I timed it perfectly. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Iโ€™m so pleased GTFC. Iโ€™m clearly feeling better as it was only a minute slower than the Cheddar 10k last weekend, and a fair bit of that was downhill! ๐Ÿ˜€

Brilliant cheekychipmunks ! I thought that time sounded familiar; I did the New Forest Marathon 10k in 1:19.35! What a lovely day you had for it too. How did you find the course compared to when we did it in 2019?

The P&R on the way back sounds horrendous. I remember when we did it before our friends drove us in and parked in the city car park with no problem.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathonโ€ข in reply toDexy5

Running twins again Dexy! ๐Ÿ˜… Itโ€™s definitely hillier than when we did it together, and it doesnโ€™t take you out on the Portway (under the bridge). The HM still goes there though. Thereโ€™s more city centre running and thatโ€™s where the hills are; one is at around 8k. ๐Ÿ˜ณ At least I was expecting it this year. It almost killed me at around the 12 mile point of the HM ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Wonโ€™t be doing the P&R again. Super smooth going in, horrific getting home. ๐Ÿ™„

Well done Cheeky!! Fabulous run and well done on your time. Thoroughly deserved bling too. Iโ€™m sorry your park and ride and journey home was so awful. Next year you could walk it instead as a warmup. ๐Ÿ˜… Would be quicker for sure.

Thank you Brian, it was a lovely day and Great Run came up with the goods as usual. ๐Ÿ˜€ So well organised. The P&R wasnโ€™t, however. Itโ€™s been fine on race days in the past too. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ I could walk, in theory, but most of it is on busy A roads, and on the way home itโ€™s 90% up hill! How many from these lovely forum are due to be in the GSR? I grin thinking about you all! No, more a beam!! What would I be like if I actually joined you, I can't begin to imagine? Your 'How dare they? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ' Made me laugh. I have a feeling the knee injuries as a result of my gardening fall are going to impact me for life ... oh dear! The physios always said my knee would never be a normal knee again. I think that it is the meniscus tear that's the main issue. Ah well, I'll do my best with whatever I have and enjoy reading of the running adventures of others. ๐Ÿ˜Š
