This race never fails to (disappoint??! π ) no cheeky, not disappoint. It never fails to please. Thanks Cmoi for pointing that one out! π Itβs the 4th year in a row Iβve done it - even in 2020 it was held, albeit as a time trial. The only thing is that, being August, it tends to be rather toasty! π₯΅
Who cares? Itβs ace! They close the motorway especially for us, we run the length of the beautiful old (the best!) bridge, turn and go back again! Itβs not flat, but wonderfully undulating. Lovely views, super friendly runners and regardless of the truly hideous little hill less than 300 metres from the finish line, I enjoyed every second. My time was good. 1:16:24. It wasnβt as quick as last year but it was a lot cooler then, plus Iβd been in proper HM training mode. Todayβs time was my fastest 10k this year, so I was very happy. π
It was my daughter Jennyβs first ever race and her second ever 10k (she did a trial one last week). She shaved 7 minutes off that time and came in in 1:00:27! Wowsers!!! Very little training was done, but hey when youβre 28 who needs to train! π Anyway, sheβs hooked and had a blast, and she wants me to see if I can enter her into Bristol which is on September 25th. β€οΈ
Mr Cheeky came along for moral support, as did Flossie. What a day! π π π

Wow, what a wonderful morning Severn Bridge 10K you and your daughter had, congratulations to both of you, lovely photo of you, your daughter and Flossie, once again a big congratulations π π ππΎ π
Well done on a fantastic race to you and Jenny. Oh to be 28 again! It sounds like a great course (apart from the final hill) as well as a wonderful day out with family and super friendly runners.
Enjoy a lovely relaxing afternoon - you've earned it xxx
Hahahaha, youβre right Cmoi ! I read the post through multiple times before sending it, as Iβm a bit of a grammar and spelling geek, but I missed that howler, even after reading your comment! Iβll be going back to edit that right away! ππ
Thanks, we had a great time and we werenβt disappointed! π
Sorry, comes from years of EFL teaching. People who have French as their first language often get confused by never, ever and never ever so I had a bit of a knee-jerk reaction there!
(I have to sit on my hands when I see some other posts...)
Please donβt apologise. I am constantly correcting peopleβs spelling in real life, whether they want me to or not, and when I spot an apostrophe in the wrong place, or bad grammar in general, itβs all I can do not to mention it. π
You have a point re journalists who are reporting on parkrun Dexy5 . But I had absolutely no idea that parkrun was stylised that way, so I had automatically regarded it as a proper noun and therefore given it a capital letter.
Well I am old! No getting away from it π I like words and itβs fun to use oneβs favourites as the opportunity arises. I could say βmiffedβ but itβs less emphatic than βirkedβ.
Iβm a Victoria Wood fan and she mined a rich seam I thought π
Lovely to see Flossie got in on the photos.would have been to much for 13 Yr old Woofy Week7 so left her at home with little Week7 while big Mr Week7 provided race support.
You were absolutely right this race was loveandvthe organisation was brilliant right down to the loo queue!! Definitely worth a repeat run in the future πββοΈ πββοΈ
Thanks W7! Wasnβt it fabulous? It made a big difference having a cheering party on the run to the finish. Mr Cheeky videoed me sprinting, and of course Jenny was there too, having finished 16 minutes earlier! Iβm glad you had a good time too. πππ
I remember a runner friend of Mr Cheekyβs warning me about it the first year I ran. He said it caught him out each time (and heβs a 45 minute 10k runner π³). I think itβs a bit cruel!! π
Itβs virtually on my doorstepβ¦I may have a bash next year. My time management skills are rubbish thoughβ¦partly why Iβve stopped doing Park Runβ¦I donβt think Iβd make it to the start on time!
Itβs definitely worth going along Lottie, especially as youβre so close. It has a wonderful atmosphere and itβs fun to watch the HM runners running out as weβre on the return leg. I didnβt envy them today, as it really was pretty warm by then. π₯΅
Whoop! Well done Munks and Jenny ππ₯³ That must have been a special run for you both so itβs no wonder you look so happy, as does Flossie. A real family affair π
Well done too on your fastest 10K time this year! All that training has paid off π
Thanks IP, itβs one youβd love and thereβs a HM too. You should come along! It was so nice having Jenny running, and she exceeded her expectations by several minutes. Wish Iβd started running at her age! π₯Ή
Yes, a nice surprise with my time. 4 minutes off my PB, but thatβs ok; Iβve been taking it very easy this year! π
Iβm on the email alert list for when entries open for 2023, never fear! π€
Yay Dexy, you must, youβll love it! πππππ
Youβve heard me bang on about Severn Bridge enough to realise that itβs a great race, and today confirmed that once again. So lovely for Jennyβs first one too. Yes, it starts on the Chepstow side of the bridge on the M48, we run right across, off down the slip road at 5k, then up and over again. A lovely course (except the last foul little hill)!
No teeshirts this year - although Iβm now wondering whether we had to order one when entering - which clearly I didnβt. π
I think we didnβt enter because we were meant to go on a holiday that didnβt happen. Still 2 weeks until our race in the New Forest π³ π π³π ππ»π³πββοΈ
Super race report. Super race! Love the photos too. Massive congratulations. This one didnβt end up working out for me but hopefully see you there next year!
What a fabulous day out Cheeky! Another great success ... and some bling? did you not mention the bling??? Are you OK????? π (I do see it in the photo)
This sounds brilliant! Iβve followed the page on Facebook so I can potentially book it for next year! Super well done! Do you know when it opens? GTFC is up for it too π
Oh you both must Tasha, itβs such an iconic place to run and the atmosphere is wonderful! β€οΈ I donβt think entries open for a while, but itβs worth checking regularly. Would be lovely to meet you both! πππ₯°
Awesome CC and CC junior! Good warm up for GSR. I like the use of the Bath Half shirt to intimidate fellow runners! Maybe I can borrow an ultra shirt from my running shop!
That was my thought BC! π Lucky I was only doing the 10k today - thereβs no way I could have run the HM course in the warmth, and I would have shown myself up no end! π³π
It really was Sola, thanks! I know - to be able to run 10k in a shade over an hour with no proper training! Makes me wish Iβd started running at her age or even sooner. π₯Ή
Yes but anything is possible, my sister used to come stay for a week once a year to see our mum and every morning she got up, had a glass of water, out the door and run 10k over the downs and back, she took about an hour and was about 59, but yes as we get older we need to put in the training
Youβll smash the 5k Sandie, itβs such a lovely PR course and youβll still get most of the benefits of running over the bridge as we turn 3/4 of the way across.
Thanks so much SS. π It was pretty warm and sunny, but the breeze helped and I kept thinking that if I managed it in 2019 when it was 28 degrees, I could handle it yesterday.
Haha, yes itβs criminal isnβt it Run46. She casually pops on a pair of running shoes every so often and then cracks out an effortless 10k! Hmph!! But Iβm thrilled for her, and it was an amazing day! π
Oh wow, really well done to you and your daughter cheeky πππ you both came in in very respectable times π Love the T Shirt too , I hope your daughter does get a place in the next bath half.
Thanks Brian! We had such a great day! Not sure sheβs up to running a HM just yet, but the Bristol 10k is just around the corner and I know she fancies that. π
