Great Bristol 10k race report πŸ˜€πŸ…πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

The day dawned cool and sunny, with very little wind. Perfect for a cheeky 10k round my home city. πŸ˜€ I headed out to the Park & Ride nice and early and arrived at the event with a good hour to spare. I even found a rank of loos with no queue! 😱 The loos brought back memories of Irishprincess , as that’s where we met for the very first time this time last year when we were both running the HM! Happy days.

I was relieved not to be running that distance today. All my recent runs have been affected by a truly hideous cold, and I’m not sure I’d have made it. 10k is a nice friendly distance and I felt good, although I did start to flag towards the end. It was mighty warm in the sun, and good old Bristol’s β€œfast and flat” description isn’t strictly true! Still, I chugged on, ran the lot and came in in 1:19:37. Not quick, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to do that today.

The bling is beautiful. So heavy and chunky. Worth every step! 😍😍

Without going into detail about my return P&R trip, suffice to say I didn’t get home for 2 hours after finishing. I live 15 minutes away. 😩

well done Cheeky, looks like a very respectable time to me! I’ve been running slow this autumn, must be something to do with the time of year. The profile doesn’t look very flat and your journey home sounds like a nightmare (unless the reason for your delay was a trip to the pub!). Looking forward to meeting up in a few weeks time.

cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to Shake-and-run

Thanks Shakes, I was happy with with sub 1:20 I must say. I’d like to think that I’ll regain some fitness before the GSR, but at least it’s flat. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

No, the long trip home didn’t involve the pub. That would have been a good reason! It did involve a 50+ minute wait for the bus, a 30 minute bus ride to the car, then a drive home full of traffic jams. πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

A big congratulations to you CC on completing the Great Bristol 10K, you will be very proud of yourself, that is a beautiful bling, I am sure you celebrated that run with wine and cake.

Thanks Al. Oh yes, plenty of celebratory deliciousness has been consumed, with more to come! That’s the bonus of running isn’t it? πŸ˜…

I just remembered that you ran at parkrun yesterday, I think if I was running a 10K on a Sunday I would probably miss parkrun on the Saturday before, so well done on running both.

I did do PR yesterday Al, but it was on purpose. I’m used to running 4-5 times each week and I don’t worry about consecutive days if it’s β€˜just’ a 10k race.

I’ve only run a maximum of twice for the last couple of weeks since this cold, and it affected my fitness hugely. I wanted some miles in my legs to help with today. πŸ˜€

Sounds just what a 10k race should be Cheeky (a rank of loos with no queue?!😲). Just draw a veil over the journey home.....

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to JonathanP

I couldn’t believe it Jonathan. I’d passed the first rank of loos which had an eye watering queue, but I wanted to offload my bag first and discovered a secret rank. Mind you when I walked past a bit later the secret was clearly well and truly out! I timed it perfectly. πŸ™πŸ»

Brilliant cheekychipmunks ! I thought that time sounded familiar; I did the New Forest Marathon 10k in 1:19.35! What a lovely day you had for it too. How did you find the course compared to when we did it in 2019?

The P&R on the way back sounds horrendous. I remember when we did it before our friends drove us in and parked in the city car park with no problem.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to Dexy5

Running twins again Dexy! πŸ˜… It’s definitely hillier than when we did it together, and it doesn’t take you out on the Portway (under the bridge). The HM still goes there though. There’s more city centre running and that’s where the hills are; one is at around 8k. 😳 At least I was expecting it this year. It almost killed me at around the 12 mile point of the HM 😩

Won’t be doing the P&R again. Super smooth going in, horrific getting home. πŸ™„

My very first 10k race was the Bristol 10k. I ran it with my sister and got a PB which stands to this day! (I seem to be getting slower all the time!!🀣🀣) It holds a special place in my heart as I was born in Bristol too.πŸ™‚

Well done Cheeky!! Fabulous run and well done on your time. Thoroughly deserved bling too. I’m sorry your park and ride and journey home was so awful. Next year you could walk it instead as a warmup. πŸ˜… Would be quicker for sure.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to RunBrianRun

Thank you Brian, it was a lovely day and Great Run came up with the goods as usual. πŸ˜€ So well organised. The P&R wasn’t, however. It’s been fine on race days in the past too. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I could walk, in theory, but most of it is on busy A roads, and on the way home it’s 90% up hill! Not much fun after running a race. 😳

Well done Cheeky. Fabulous bling and a great warm up for the event of the year in 3 weeks. It took me over an hour to get home from Lincoln 10k last year and it’s only 4 miles, so I can absolutely sympathise over the journey home πŸ˜–

How many from these lovely forum are due to be in the GSR? I grin thinking about you all! No, more a beam!! What would I be like if I actually joined you, I can't begin to imagine? Only just managing 30 minutes running due to rehab from hamstring, knee and a lesser extent Achilles, so no long runs for me for a while yet.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to over61andstilltrying

At least 10, probably more over61. Plus a couple of non-runners too. It would be lovely if you could join our merry gang one year, but get those naughty niggles sorted first. How dare they? 😩

over61andstilltrying profile image
over61andstilltrying10 Miles in reply to cheekychipmunks

Your 'How dare they? 😩' Made me laugh. I have a feeling the knee injuries as a result of my gardening fall are going to impact me for life ... oh dear! The physios always said my knee would never be a normal knee again. I think that it is the meniscus tear that's the main issue. Ah well, I'll do my best with whatever I have and enjoy reading of the running adventures of others. 😊

Less than 3 weeks to the happy day! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
