Just a word of thanks for virtual support for real running

Hi all,

I don’t often post here, and probably haven’t been seen much on HU since the days of the 2020 HU autumn virtual half marathon I completed way back in September 20. During that event I connected with a number of people as part of the Strava group that was set up. It has been interesting and motivating to watch everyone’s progress since then. I’d like to thank everyone who has ‘kudoed’ and especially for the kind and encouraging comments.

In the middle of last year I joined the local running club (a friendly bunch, even if the majority are much faster than me!) and I finally got round to running my first official race in club colours on Sunday. That was my first half marathon after the 2020 virtual one, and I’m pleased to say I actually made it round in a shade over 2:12 — more than 8 minutes faster than last time.

It’s sooo much more fun running with other people and, although nothing beats “in person” interaction, I’m very grateful for the virtual running buddies I’ve met through this forum, even if I may never meet any of you in person!

Congratulations and very well done. I’m only starting out on my half marathon journey and I am thinking about getting involved with my local running club so as to join in with a group especially on the longer weekend runs. Happy running.

Thanks, and I can certainly recommend joining a club as way of keeping you motivated and improving. Enjoy your HM journey!

Thanks, I was a member of a club a few years ago and it was great. But with my wife working on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, kids, homework etc it didn’t work out. Kids are older now so I’ll try it again.
