3+ years after c25k and this was the first race I'd been tempted into running. Well, since I live in Portsmouth it would have seemed churlish not to, particularly with so many other HU VRBs entering!

I was planning for a time around 1.50, slightly over my last 10 miles a year ago. Things went according to plan for the first half, but then my backache (which usually doesn't affect my running, but I think the long wait to get started due to Covid restrictions was a factor) started to kick in and the sun came out! 7 miles in I decided some brief walks were needed and I finished in 1.58.09.

The support from spectators was amazing - particularly when someone uses your name (as printed on your race number) and it was certainly an experience to remember! After finishing I thought 'not sure I'd be keen to do that again'. However on reporting back to my son, his response was 'we should do it together next year' - doh!

My niece is and she came to support me at my race on Sunday. I’ve inspired her to run, and she’s taking me to an out of town venue in a few weeks time so we can do a 5k together 🙂🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ I think she’s hoping none of her pupils will be there 😎

Very well done Jonathan, it was a very strange start compared to previous years and I’m sorry that the cool wind while waiting around affected your back. You had a very good time considering you walked for the first time ever. It was great to see you at parkrun and before the run yesterday.

There is an early bird price if you sign up for next year now, so get your son to commit and I am sure you will have a great time.

Please note for next year cheekychipmunks , TailChaser and Sandie1961 , not many people queuing for loos behind Jonathan at the meeting place.
