Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing OK. I haven’t posted on here for a while but I’ve been recovering from injury. Happily I’m on the mend now thanks to an excellent physio I found courtesy of a couple of lovely running friends on Strava.😊
Anyway, today I set out to run 16 km in preparation for the Vitality Big Half on Saturday 22nd. Sadly the weather wasn’t on my side as it was so hot 🥵 and I hadn’t got enough water to keep properly hydrated💦. I decided to bail out at 10 km and walk the rest, so I managed the 16 km eventually. I’d rather I learn that lesson now than when I’m doing the real event, but it’s a bit of a schoolboy error on my part.🙁
Not to worry, tomorrow’s another day and I’m sure I’ll feel better about it after a good night’s sleep 😴
Happy running everyone!

It was so hot David, I went out at 9.18 to do a 10k today when it was 18C and it got progressively hotter during the run. The sweat was pouring off me. I had a 150ml bottle of water and polished the lot off. Hydration vest for me next time I do a long run I think. Well done you for realising your error and walking the last bit.
Thanks Dexy5, I’ll keep a close eye on the forecast for the HM. I’m waiting to hear too about whether water will be provided along the route or I’ll need my hydration vest etc.
I like to use zero in my water to help replace the electrolytes, so I’d still take my own for between water stations. UpTheStanley uses tailwind to provide energy as he doesn’t take any food during the run. Everyone is different.
You certainly didn’t fail David. You thought on your feet and made the smart decision. 👊 I must say, the weather here was perfect for running this morning. I went out at 8am and it was 14 degrees with a fresh breeze.
As for your race, I’d definitely recommend bringing your hydration vest. At the very least, even if you don’t need the water stations for drinking, if it’s warm you can throw a bottle of water over your head which is delightful! 💦
I went out this morning about the same time. It was cool and overcast when I left the house. By half way round my planned course the sun had started to break through, and by about the three quarters way point it was getting hot with a warm breeze. I had to stop.
My hands were glistening with sweat as I walked, and when I got back home my kit was sopping wet.
