Hi TT,Love the comments you have received.

Just saying,I had both left knee cartilages removed 60 years ago.Three years ago was on horrendous pain relief medication for puesdo gout and osteoarthritis.Started C25k and trotting which has strengthened me and goodnight to that medication.Best thing I have ever done for my health.

Atb TT with your choices.

Ex smoker still struggling with giving up here. I use Nicotine tabs when I get the urge! You can do this when you feel ready!

I really think you could consider yourself a runner in rehab instead of identifying as "a smoker". So, when runners are injured they do other types of exercise to keep themselves fit. Have a think about what you could do as well as your physio exercises - cycling, swimming, modified yoga, Pilates, walking... what do you enjoy?

I don't think you're after advice are you? But anyway 😜 I gave up smoking (years ago), and what I found helpful was reading about lungs and how they work, and hanging out with non-smokers. Good luck, and remember you only get one body xxx

I agree with roseabi - you are a runner in rehab!πŸ˜€

As for the smoking - I probably stopped about 25 years ago now but this was the book that did it for me...absolutely changed my mindset. πŸ‘ Stopped, never looked back. Good luck.πŸ™‚

You are a RUNNER _ you are just on the IC like so many others are periodically on this forum.

As for the smoking_ sounds like you don't want to do it so I'm sure you will succeed in giving it up. Sounds like you have lots of ideas from those who have won that battle.

Good luck.

Would it help to keep us all updated with your progress with injury, exercise, running and giving up smoking?

I wasn't just a smoker, I was addicted to tobacco. My lifestyle was horrendous. The way I dealt with it was simple. No patches, no therapy, no cutting down, none of that. I simply stopped abruptly on 1 May 2015 and took up running shortly after. Why did I stop? The most effective fear of all, the fear of death. I convinced myself that another cigarette would kill me. It worked and I haven't smoked since. It's that simple. If you want to stop smoking, don't smoke anymore. Is it hard? Who cares. Just stop.

Well done for posting about your battle. I hope you can achieve giving up smoking ok as it sounds like you want to. I'm doing the nhs knee strengthening exercises after seeing about them on the strength and flex group here. They're gentle but still a work out. nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k... Good luck with your recovery
