2020 is so last year but I just wanted to quickly thank everyone who took part in this challenge. I won't take any more distances, so we will close it out with the following amazing achievements:
β 2020 kilometres in six days β
β2020 miles in eight days β
β2.020 x 2020km in ten days β
βββ Overall total (across eleven days) - 4585 km, achieved by 101 runners βββ
You exceeded our expectations by far!
β Heaps of 2020's too! The Strava art was fab and we had so many 2020 photos: created from pebbles, chestnuts, nutcracker dolls, medals, chocolates, trainers, decorations, pressies, gear, road signs, lights ... (all brilliant). We also had lots of time and distance based 2020s (and from personal experience I can tell you that's not easy - Garmin and Strava disagree, seconds and metres click over remarkably quickly and catching it all in a photo can be a step too far). Birdlady64 and Blackberrypie both submitted four different attempts at 2020s - well done!
β This was always a group distance challenge, but there were some amazing individual distances: GoGo_JoJo was our biggest contributor clocking up over 157km, and Ant50 , Boss1973 , David_G , Grannyhugs and SmilingTortoise1 each logged over 100km. Fabulous!!!
β Massive thanks once again to everyone who has taken part in this challenge, you've all been absolutely awesome and made it a lot of fun. It encouraged me to get outside when I would probably have favoured the couch; it's also led me to sign up for RED January again (I won't run every day, but this year I will aim to either run or walk every day) - thanks Sandie1961 for reminding me about it π
2020 has not been the best of years but I believe we made the most of it, together we have been stronger and I'm sure we are all ready to make the most of 2021.
Thanks so much for organising and running this challenge. It was great fun, a fantastic way to end the year and definitely motivated me to get outside and be much more active than I would have been otherwise.
It was a brilliant challenge. And I do so enjoy being part of the forums, even if I am often only watching from the sidelines, so thanks to you and all the admins, and every one of the wonderful positive contributors. Happy 2021 everyoneπ
This is brilliant! Such positivity, which illustrates the beauty/joy of running and walking in the great outdoors during trying times perfectly. Well done everyone who took part and happy new year! So long 2020..............
Great to be a part of this end of year challenge, thank you for organising and keeping is up to date with all the distances a fun and focussed way to see 2020 out!
Thanks for organising this linda9389 . I loved taking part - it kept me motivated, not least because the feeling of being part of a group trying to achieve something together was wonderful.
As was the surreal side of it: "I absolutely have to go for a run/jog/walk and record as much distance as possible, because I need to help a bunch of people I've never met reach 2020 km, oops no 2020 miles, oops 2.020 x 2020 km." πππ
Thank you my VRBs, and here's hoping that 2021 will prove kinder than 2020.
Oh please don't apologise for the moving goalposts, that was part of the joy of it! I kept checking in and thinking "Hey, we're going to crack that goal, whee-hee, what's next?"
Also, I am the person who ended up on this forum because a Magic Plan 8k accidentally turned into a 10k, and the final Magic Plan 10k into 10 miles. First HM distance happened in similar fashion, and the second was only a tad more planned: "Ooh, forest. Ooh, new route. Ooh, if I take that road it'll probably add up to HM again. Ooh, it has but I'm not home yet. Ooh, might as well run all the way home, it'll help the 2020 Challenge numbers!"
It was a brilliant way to sign the year off Linda! Thank you for this and all the other challenges you and the team have organised to help keep us all sane in 2020!
Absolutely fantastic!!!! Thank you so much, Linda, for organising this, and for yours and everyone's contributions xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Linda thanks for compiling this and for the 100km mention - amazing what you can do when you donβt have work for a few days and can get out for some good long dog walks and runs.
