I have just spoken to my brother and he wants me to support him by running the Brighton marathon with him next year ๐ฑ Heโs recovering from radio therapy and is really struggling so I guess Iโm going to have to do it. I really truly hate the idea of a marathon but I canโt let him down. Itโll be a challenge for both of us for sure.

Youโre half way there already ๐
If you allow at least four months training you can do it.
Itโs always good to have a plan on the go. Good luck with it ๐ช๐๐
Thank you misswobble. Halfway to hell if you ask me. ๐ Thatโs a song isnโt it? Iโll have to start looking at marathon training plans I suppose. ๐

You can do it Brian. I sure as heck didn't think I could and I bet my house you are better equipped than me
The hardest part is spending the time training - it's a big and constant investment.
What kept me going was remembering
"It won't be easy - but it definitely will be worth it"
Best wishes for it Running pal :)๐๐ป

This is our 5000th post!!
You can do that marathon, Bri!!!!! It's great fun ๐๐๐ Maybe I'll see you at the start line?!

Well; thatโs it!! No choice. Easily within your compass; just try to find a way of enjoying it. ๐
Love your belief in me beachcomber ๐๐โบ๏ธ Iโll try my best to enjoy it but itโs so far out of my comfort zone. I thought to myself at the end of my impromptu HM, how that was only half of a marathon, and look at the state of me. Letโs see..,,,

That so made me laugh! Which I suspect is a rather inappropriate response, sorry. But I love that the short distance speed demon is going to have a crack at a marathon so soon after his first half marathon (that was never going to happen)! All things are possible. You will smash it. Your brother is amazing too!!!
I knew youโd find this funny Linda ๐๐ Now where can I find a marathon training plan? ๐ค

You just did a HM off the cuff! Of course you can do a full marathon! (No pressure of course ๐คฃ) ๐ช๐ช๐ช

Iโve managed to rope my son in to support us both. Poor lad. ๐

Brian. Youโre an absolute natural. If I can run HM distance, you sure as heck can run a FM. ๐
You have a great incentive with your brother. and you have a whole herd of loyal VRBโs to cheer you on and pick you up if training gets tough.
Go for it! ๐ช๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅ๐

Do it, do it, do it! You know thatโs still how I feel, I still canโt quite believe Iโve done a marathon, and same as Irish-John , treated the distance with great respect, took it steady, and what do you know? Only flippin well did it.
Iโm sure having company, a joint or shared goal was really important, and made me determined to finish......
You only have to do it once ๐......๐ ....and the kudos is yours forever....๐ช
Mx
What a brother ๐ you've got this Brian no doubts ๐ช
Thanks Ian ๐ Heโs pretty remarkable really and an inspiration for me. Heโs the one who sets my targets for me. He often doesnโt know heโs doing it, but he has faith in me, and makes me reach further than I think Iโm capable of. A strong man for sure and I really enjoy our runs together when they happen. He is also really persuasive! Hence why Iโm doing this ๐

Youโve got this one Brian. Youโll smash it! And how often will this kind of chance come up again in the future?
![Tasha99 profile image](https://images.hu-production.be/avatars/9c52c882-c4de-4824-9b89-9bfda4ff7cb9_small@2x_100x100.jpg)
Do it! Just to tick it off the bucket list ๐
I am going to do it Tasha ๐ฑ
The only advice is can give you, is too babe sure you train really really slowly. I did long runs too fast - I thought they were slow but they werenโt slow enough. By the time I got to race day I was broken ๐คฃ
ThanksTasha. Is there a tips post on HU here somewhere? It would be really useful if those who have gone before could share some insights and feedback.
Not that I know of. Maybe they admin team might know of one, but Iโm sure youโd get plenty of tips if you asked ๐๐ฝ Following a plan didnโt work for me. It was too intense. Next time Iโd just up my long run every other week. For the in between weeks, Iโd drop right back to say 50% for that long run day. And you donโt need to do more than 20 miles. Although if I went really, really slowly a plan would probably work out ok now.

Just seen your post Brian. Imagine you and your brother crossing that finish line arms raised in triumph ๐ now that's worth it! You've got this ๐
![Irishprincess profile image](https://images.hu-production.be/avatars/3b41f9cda3a111ddede447e89c45beef_small@2x_100x100.jpg)
I love the way you really don't want to do it but you are anyway because of your brother. Youโll both need to watch that sibling rivalry thing though ๐

The training is going to be hard, but knowing that you're going to do it with your brother will get you through it. Also, it is nice to say that you've done a marathon.
