Bridge to 20K/HM - Week 5 Run 2

10K 🎯

NRC - 10K Run

I’ve lacked a bit of my usual motivation this week 😴 I think it’s been due to a combination of many different factors:

- It’s cold πŸ₯Ά

- My sleeping pattern is all over the place πŸ’€

- My weekly schedule got disrupted by training, induction and volunteering πŸ˜‡

- Life just being life and getting in the way in typical 2020 style

However, I forced myself out of the door yesterday with the attitude that any run is a good run! 10K later I felt good and pleased with myself for starting the run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

I’ve been feeling a bit anxious about increasing my weekly mileage - so all of my runs are now β€˜long’ runs - but this slow 10K boosted my mood and mind set. I just need to chill 😎 and stop putting pressure on myself πŸ˜‰

I’ve managed 2 runs this week and I think that’s all I’m going to ask of myself. Im also due to start night shifts this week so I’ll have to adjust my personal training programme for my quest to 20K/HM before the end of the year πŸ€”

Anyone else work nights? Any tips? Do you run before or after work? Or just on your days off? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Slow 10k PhoenixRise excellent slow pace ☺️ I'm that permanent night worker, I've known some to run after worker,,,,, not for me it's straight to beddybyes 😴😴😴😴 I'll grab some breakfast and run when I awake generally mid morning

Thanks lmc50 πŸ™πŸ» Yes, anything below a PB for me is a slow effort 🀭 Ah, thanks for the insight! I’m due my first shift tonight so I’ve done a cheeky speed challenge (1K) and will be returning to bed shortly 😴

I guess we all go through times when motivation dips, often when life just gets in the way. I had a couple of weeks doing 2 runs a week. Issues in my personal life caused my anxiety levels to rocket. I had to force myself out of the door! Even twice a week seemed too much and I considered stopping completely. But I went on a 10 mile run last Saturday (I had to, I had told my son I was going to!) and got my motivation back. My plans are loose, I don’t have a set schedule, I don’t even know when I’m going to try for that half marathon, I just know I will when it feels right.

It looks like this slow (for you!) 10K has kick started your motivation in the same way. Be kind to yourself while you work out a schedule that suits your changing circumstances. Your progress has been phenomenal! You already realise you need to ease off on the pressure you are putting on yourself. In the meantime, happy running! πŸ‘

Well done. Yes, its hard to schedule the time sometimes. I don't work nights but getting up at stupid o'clock and working 12/13 hr days plus an hour travelling to/ from leaves me very little time during the week.

I use my Weds off plus my Sat or on my full weekend Sat/Sun to get my miles in. If I'm lucky and get an early finish in the week it's always first in my thoughts but sometimes I'm just too knackered... it's important not to put yourself under too much pressure, it needs to still be fun πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

Can't offer any experience on shifts I'm afraid. But I have found rest weeks are important even without shifts. They help you recover and strengthen and they also give you a new appreciation of running when you pick up again. Any run is a good run, and a run with no pressure that you enjoy is a GREAT run!!! Well done.
