Hi everyone, completed my first half marathon this morning. Felling pretty chuffed with myself, but was hoping for a better time. Kept thinking how lucky I was with the weather compared to those amazing runners running last weekend. I kept my diet very plain for the last couple of days which worked well, no toilet issues 😀. I set off with energy balls, jelly babies and diluted squash (which really helped with dehydration issues I’ve had in the past in addition to cooler temperatures I’m sure) All was going well until about 15k when the “k’s” just didn’t seem to be going fast enough. I was having an energy ball around every 5K along with my drink which helped. Found it very tough from about 17-20k, everything seemed stiff and I must have looked odd not walking but not really running. 😀 At last the end was was insight with the last 2k. Fabulous feeling to make it to the end. I was hoping for a better time as I didn’t walk for any of it. Maybe I’ll look at the Jeffing technique to see if that helps for next time. How people manage to do a marathon, god only knows! Anyhow, I’ll be celebrating tonight. 🍾🥂🎉Thank you, for all the wonderful support on this site, it’s very inspiring. Just realised I forgot the time bit. So here it is!

Huge congratulations Annette! That is a great achievement. Time does not matter for your first shot at a distance, it’s a guaranteed PR! You set out to train this distance and you did it. Pat yourself on the back, it’s a BIG deal! 👍🏼👏👏💪🏃‍♀️👊

Wonderful achievement. Just getting the distance is all that matters on the first one; no sense in leaving yourself a tough target for the next one 👍. Proper celebration required 🥂

That's great! Well done and congratulations, time doesn't matter, now you know you're ok with the distance, you can make a better time your next objective, but don't let that thought keep you from enjoying what you have already achieve!!

Thank you, I’m feeling a bit better now and thinking where I can improve (more training needed I think) 😀

Yay! Woohoo! Congratulations! That's a great run. 17k is a notorious low point for me in a Half marathon, can pretty much guarantee it. Takes grit to keep going ... and keep going you did! The full 22k - almost a whole extra km in that time 😍. I'd say that was an awesome time for a first HM, and very definitely a PB. Plenty to celebrate there - you should feel very proud!!!

WOO HOO 🥳🥳

Well done on completing your HM - a fantastic achievement 👏👏👏

I found it really hard going at 17k too. I was really tempted to walk for a while but was worried my legs might cease and I wouldn't be able to start running again. Enjoy your celebrations tonight 😊

You did more than a HM! So extra well done and many congratulations. The vast majority of humans will never run this distance, so you should be very proud 💪🙂
