Home made sports drinks

As I have little access to sports supplements I thought I would have a look at some natural ones. Training in Cyprus can be hot and I was concerned about salts/minerals/electrolytes being lest so I was having a local version of Dyoralite once a week to help make up. I have not completely given up on this but as an alternative I came up with these all in the nutribullet:-

Use your judgment on quantities.

Chopped watermelon

Piece of fresh ginger

Pinch of salt

Cold berry tea (made from bags and allowed to chill)

Dessertspoon of honey.

Blitz, put through tea strainer into bottle and chill. Have post run, told it is good for electrolyte replenishment.

Next:

Ice, banana, walnuts, peanut butter, honey milk, blitzed. Post run good for protein and potassium/magnesium.

Next:

3 medium carrots, piece of fresh ginger, 1/2tsp turmeric, topped up with orange juice. Blitz, chill drink. Got to be good for something? If nothing other than 2 of your 5 a day!

Open to suggestions folks

These all sounds great. At home after a long run I sometimes blend frozen strawberries/bananas/mango with milk and vega protein powder and it hits the spot. 2 more breakfasts and I’m good to go 😂

Great idea! They sound delish 😋

Milk is no good prerun for me as it makes me feel so nauseous Plenty of alternatives though Coconut water maybe as that is nutritious. Trying things out to sit how they ‘sit’ with you is a good idea

Good luck with your recipes🙂

Oh I do agree! The one with milk is post run. TBH I stick with water pre run.

The milk makes my mouth water excessively like you get when you’re about to throw up. Lesson learned 🤢 I was drinking a pre run espresso with added milk.

When I had shin splint I made up Daily doses of the Scott Jurek anti-inflammatory smoothie. Bloomin delish and very healthy

Some of the ingredients lists in bought gels, bars and tabs are worryingly long. They’re very handy of course. Expensive though, so anything you can make at home makes sense 🙂👍
