After all the effort of fitting in our warm up runs for this yearโs April HU event, it will be just great to sit back with a nice coffee and think about our three brave runners who are taking on some wonderful events on Sunday. One of the runs is in Portugal, so especially loud cheers and vigorous shaking will be needed! All of the courses appear to be pretty flat; I think they mean it this time!
First up we have:
๐ ย Curlygurly2 who is running through the City and Colleges of Cambridge in the Cambridge Half Marathon. She is running in support of Break who support young people leaving institutional care. This is a big event complete with cheering points and music hot spots. Have a wonderful day Curlygurly; the weather looks fine, in fact it could be a balmy one shirt 15c!
๐ ย CosmicBuffalo who is running in the Brett Lydd 20 mile race on โpancake flatโ (allegedly!) country lanes around the marsh town of Lydd. I suppose the clue is in the name! He is running in support of the Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service. Again, the weather seems to be set fair for a wonderful speedy race; if you ignore the 20 miles of course!!
๐ the amazing ย linda9389 running in the Lisbon Half Marathon, a Gold Race Label event no less. Fresh from her mountain climbing experience (sponsored by messrs Klingon and Scream!) I am sure that she will welcome being glued to the (yes you have guessed it) really really flat course. It is worth having a look at the Guided Tour map on the website. It holds a 57:31 World Record โฆ.no pressure Linda! There does look to be a drop of rain around on Sunday, but that may be welcome. Enjoy Terra Firma !
Hope you all have a great race and enjoy what sound like some lovely locations. Itโs only been a week since my HM and I already have a slight case of FOMO!!! Pom poms waving ๐ ๐
I know, I was thinking the same! I was hoping OH would offer to take me somewhere warm to recuperate but he bought me a new mower so,I guess itโs out of the question ๐. Jersey I thought as itโs not far. Sigh ๐
Oh well, back to reality. Good luck to everyone racing today. Hope itโs warm and fine for our UK runners๐โโ๏ธ ๐โโ๏ธ. I hear itโs not so good for Linda over in Portugal ๐ซฃ. Sheโll prevail though ๐ช๐โโ๏ธ
Have fun out there yโall ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Weโve had lovely weather the last few days but tonight we walked to a restaurant and got absolutely drenched! Itโs horrible here atm so I hope your weather is ok for Sunday ๐คMind you, youโve trained in the UK so bad weather is par for the course โ๏ธ๐ฅฐ
Our forecast for four days in Lisbon is sadly miserable. I may opt for a lie in tomorrow! Such a waste, but cold and wet is not ideal sightseeing weather ๐
In even worse news ... we wanted to eat at the hotel tonight, couldn't face getting cold again ... but turns out we are staying in an alcohol free hotel!!! Whattt??? Yup. It's a Mercure, a big hotel chain ... but they have no bar and no alcohol in the restaurant! So tonight we went out into the cold (and thankfully dry), but when we got back I asked if we could bring our own wine into the restaurant (there's a lidl next door ๐). I assumed they would say no, but 'Of course' he said and 'we'll open it for you'!!! Well, that's Sunday evening sorted again!!!
Currently warming in our room with a bottle of port from Lidl - just 4.99 euros; not sure I'm taking this run as seriously as I maybe should ๐๐
I donโt do port any more ๐คข Iโll tell you the whole story some time over a glass or two but it sounds as if youโre enjoying yours. Cheers ๐ฅ๐ท
Ohhh! After my adventures earlier this holiday, I can sympathise. I turned down a mango and passionfruit kombucha today (my two favourite fruits until the recent incident; whilst passionfruit was likely the innocent party in that debacle, it's the flavour I remember. I wonder if I'll ever try passionfruit again). ๐คข
Good luck to you all! Interesting sounding and varied races this weekend. I'm heading up some local mountains in the Brecon Beacons so will wave from the top ๐ Hopefully they won't be white topped here either!!
pom poms waving frantically (though not while riding my bike) for Curlygurly2 CosmicBuffalo and linda9389 . Have a wonderful time and bring back the bling and happy memories.
My pom poms are loving race season. They live to be shaken and this week theyโre off again, flapping away excitedly for their HU pals Curlygurly2 , CosmicBuffalo and linda9389 . Bling season is well under way. ๐ฅฐ
Thanks for the shout out BC. Went to the expo to pick up my bib today; got soaked, the wind was a 45mph job, we were frozen! I may need a complete rethink for Sunday's wardrobe. Last year runners complained it was too warm ๐
Yes it's flat. I picked up the wrong elevation map yesterday and had a major panic, but no .. this one is flat (and probably downhill overall).
It's my first of the six superhalf races and i got a look at the SuperSix medal ... it's big and it's gorgeous!!! (But the photo won't post)
Lisbon and Cardiff booked for this year. Next challenge will be actually getting a place in two of the other races next year! Prague or Berlin for spring; Valencia or Copenhagen for autumn.
Air travel is a nightmare; I like to be in the departure lounge, with a cup of coffee, really early. Mrs BC is more manyana โฆโฆโฆnightmare as I said ๐
Pom poms ready, there may even be real pom poms if I pop down to watch the Cambridge Half go past! Going to be a warm one..... ๐ถ๏ธ๐๐ถ๏ธ๐๐๐
Hi TCโฆโฆ.sounds pretty dire in Lisbon this morning. Maybe time to run in the middle of a crowd for shelter. That bridge must be really exposed. Storms seem to be a regular feature at presentโน๏ธ
She will be fine when she is running; plenty of people to provide shelter! It is a massive event though! ๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค๐ค she will have a great day.
I'm a bit late to wave you off at the start line, I hope as i type CosmicBuffalo is enjoying scenic Llyd and Curlygurly2 is having a sunny run in historic Cambridge. We really are blessed with perfect weather in the UK this week. A big cheery wave to you both.
Big virtual hugs and the most frantic of pom pom waving goes out to linda9389 as she battles her way through self doubt, stomach upset and storms on the streets of Lisbon.
I'm looking forward to seeing 3 bits of beautiful and well deserved bling! ๐๐๐๐๐
