I took part in a race at 5:30 this morning!
5.30 Brighton was the last in a tour of early morning runs, coming to us via Verona, Milan, Torino, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara, Mantova, Reggio, Emilia, Riva Del Garda, and Venice. Run 5.30 was originally conceived in Italy, with the idea of getting some exercise in the heart of a city at an unusual time of day without disruption to your routine. And enjoying cheese and fresh fruit afterwards. And apparently it isn't actually a race or a fun run
It was fab. The weather was beautiful (if rather windy), we were all dressed up in matching t-shirts, the scenery was magnificent, and the bling was stunning (sorry, Miss Wobble). There were about 300 of us charging through Brighton at the unholy hour, which was really quite amazing!
We were given water, iced tea, grapes, strawberries, and Parmesan cheese, for breakfast afterwards. As I walked home I bumped into one of the race directors, who was scooting around on a bike looking for stragglers. He told me that 5.30 celebrated their 10th anniversary this year, and in one of the Italian cities (I forget which), there were 9000 participants!!
I think I'll have to visit Italy next year!
Highly recommended
p.s. I'm in the blue hat.
