Hi everyone. Itโs taken me a long time to get over to the forum but slowly making progress and recently running close to 10 miles ( would have kept going too if Iโd known I was .5km off it! ๐๐คช). Canโt tell you how much it means to be here at last... increasing distance slowly and hoping for 10 miles in the next few weeks fingers crossed.... and then who knows where that will take me next. Excitedly ordered a hydration vest today in anticipation and to make sure I am better prepared for longer run times. Oh and bought jelly babies too but have hidden those but can still hear them calling my name to eat the bag and just save a few! Lovely to meet you all and safe running everyone ๐

Hi... ok if I join you all?
Hello! A very warm welcome to the forum, it's good to have you join us. Ten miles is a great milestone and i do believe we have a badge with your name on it in the cupboard - just let us know when you get there. With a hydration vest and a pack of jelly babies you can go far and we look forward to hearing all about it - enjoy ๐
Hi Linda and thank you ๐... my family think I am bonkers to be so excited about a badge but itโs a massive milestone for me. So excited just wish the heat would go away now so I can go out. Iโm not great running in this heat yet.
Hey!! Wotcha, you seem to be doing really well. You'll certainly reach that 10 miles soon. Well done on the vest too. There's something so satisfying about longer runs. Here's to happy running ๐
Welcome to the forum Wimborne, it won't be long before you run 10 miles, those jelly babies are waiting to be ate, but don't eat too many at the same time, perhaps 1 every half hour during your run, good luck for your 10 miles run. ๐๐พ ๐
Thank you so much for the advice and the welcome Almorr. I am very new to running longer distances and wasnโt well prepared on my first one but it went really well which was great. I didnโt think of taking anything with me. You donโt know what you donโt know I guess. And thank you for the good luck. I will certainly take it with me.
Yesss Wimborne, youโre here! Wonderful to have you. 10 miles is calling your name loudly. You realise you get a badge. Itโs all about the bling, we all know that! ๐ ๐โโ๏ธ๐ฅฐ
Won't be long before you crack it Wimborne!๐
Hi, so close to 10miles, youโll be there very soon. I took 4 jelly babies with me on my 10miles run, they all came home then I foolishly put them in plain sight on the counter - oops, didnโt last long. ๐คฃ happy running ๐ค
Ah thank you GH. Reading the posts on here I can see how much I have to learn. Serious mileage on this forum which I bow to with runners respect. I admit the bag is now open๐... just too damn tempting. My excuse was to practice how to eat one whilst running ( round the garden )
Whoo hoo! Wimborne wow! youโre so close to 10 miles and jelly babies rock too. ๐
Whoop whoop, the gazelle is here ! Youโll be at 10 miles before you know it Wimborne. I hang around this forum even though I havenโt been further than 10k since I did the 10 mile Great South Run last year, but no one seems to mind.
I donโt get on very well with jelly babies, preferring dates and dried apricots. I use zero in my hydration vest bladder to add electrolytes and make the water taste nicer.
Hi... itโs so lovely you are here and my god deservedly so as well. Jelly babies were delicious ( bag opened) and never heard of zero and canโt say I know anything about electrolytes either. Was just going with a bit of squash ๐. I will google to learn more.
Other brands are available, but I find high 5 Zero tablets dissolved in water help hydrate the day before a run, keep you going during a run, and rehydrate after a run especially in hot weather like this. It contains the minerals you lose in sweat.
My favourite flavour so far, pink grapefruit.
But many also like tailwind which contains carbohydrates so it gives you energy to help keep you going to the end. UpTheStanley used this when increasing to HM and didnโt need to eat anything solid.
We also ate overnight oats at least an hour before running for slow release of energy. Running on empty is not good for distance.
There may be a pinned post on the subject on this forum .
Welcome to the forum, you will find everyone really friendly and helpful. I know I have. Happy running ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Hello Wimborne, your 10 miles is not that far away. As for the jelly babies it has to be harribo ones for me as the bassetts make me feel sick. Good luck ๐
Welcome, glad to see you made it ๐
Now let's pray for some nice cool weather so we can get on with these long runs in comfort ๐ค๐
How wonderful that you have nearly got to 10 miles! Very well done ๐๐
