well, I blame you lot on here and my running buddies in our running club, as I've now signed up for the Boston HM next April!
Going to download the NRC training plan and a friend who is doing a HM a few weeks earlier is going to join me for some training sessions.
Im nervous and excited but just want the experience of being able to do it. I can run 10 miles now without being absolutely exhausted and suffering the next day.
Although I've recently been diagnosed with having osteoarthritis in both my big toes and ball joints ( already have it in my lower back, but it doesn't bother me too much,) as long as I'm sensible, follow my training plan,I'm positive I will be ok. Not striving for a wonderful finish time, just want to get round and achieve it it! 🤞🤞

Fantastic news! I did the NRC HM plan to get to the distance from 10k. If you’re already at 10 miles, you’re in a superb position to extend up to the HM distance. Massively good luck to you. I’m still aching a bit from Sunday but it was absolutely brilliant and totally worth the effort.
great stuff! I ran my winter marathon with a lady from Boston who was telling me about the marathon there. She’d done it and remarked that it was flat 🙂 Do some hill training though 😀👍 A spring race is just reward for training in the depths of winter 😀
I’m running my November marathon a bit further up the coast towards Cleethorpes 🥶
Good luck with your training, Coach B will look after you. The coached speed runs are great ! Have fun 👍
thank you. Yes we have a lady in our running club who has said she will take us on some hill training. It's very very flat where I live, so hills are hard to come by, but I do intend to take a drive to where there are some and get some practice in.
Cant imagine running a marathon, but then again 2 years ago when I signed up to C25K, couldn't imagine running further than a 10k!!😄
I ran my first HM distance by accident! I just set out for a long run and decided to see how far I could get by keeping the pace really slow….so I was amazed when I reached HM distance. Hydration and, for some, nutrition is important; just a bit of extra attention to detail. Then there are strengthening exercises too….but all manageable…..just do it 🙂
You and me both Beachcomber66 . I set off one day and just kept going. Like Hedgehogs123 I'd already done a 10-miler. That was also unplanned, as were my first 5k, 10k and metric marathon runs. Spot a pattern?! 🙃🤣
People use all sorts of stuff. I don’t use anything with a fizz whilst I am running! I often just pack a water bottle. I drink zero on non run days and like lucozade sport for an energy boost. I did my first HM without a drink! I don’t think that it is critical …so long as you have enough to keep you hydrated.
I’ve recently started the NRC HM plan, at the moment doing week 3. Yesterday was supposed to be hill training, I struggled to find hills but I’m sure there will be other opportunities. I will mix the plan up a bit sometimes doing 3 runs or the 5 runs over 2 weeks. My HM aid also in April so plenty time to get there.
I did the Garmin 14 week HM plan for my HM last month which I found a bit hard to be honest and lots of people on here seem to have done the NRC plan and enjoyed it, but, to be honest for my 1st HM, all I did was 3 runs a week (parkrun, a long run and a speed run) and increase my long run by 1km a week. My first HM was 10 minutes faster than my 2nd. You’ve got plenty of time so I would suggest that regular consistent running, gradually increasing the distance is the key. Good luck!
thank you. I am currently doing Parkrun, run with community running group one evening which is a steady approx 6.5km a long run increased each week by 10km as suggested on here ,and intervals once a week, plus yoga and lots of walking in-between. So hopefully I should be ok!
Brilliant Hedgehogs! You’ll be well looked after with the NRC HM plan, and you’ll have a blast at the race itself too. Fast forward to the buzz you’ll have for days after completing it. So excited for you! 👏
