Since the start of this month I've tried to slow down my running between 10.30 and 11.30 per mile each run, no matter what distance. Today I set out for 8 miles keeping about 11 pace and at the 8 mark I felt really strong so kept going. This was a comfy way to complete another HM which I'm really pleased about. π

Steady feels good
Brilliant! This kind is training is also really good for you and will build your fast pace too π
Iβve just read 80/20 running by Matt Fitzgerald. Can recommend it ππ½
Oooh thank you! I think I'll have a look. Appreciate it π
Well done to you GTFC on running yet again a sub 2h 25 minutes half marathon, congratulations π π ππΎ. You deserve to be very pleased with yourself π ππΎ.
Thank you. I really am pleased because I was holding myself back to an 11 pace as I've been training like this and it really helped because I got stronger as I went on. Really appreciate it my friend. I'll pass the baton on to you now for Wednesday!
Thank you for passing on the baton for my run this Wednesday, I intend to run 14K but if I feel good I'll continue to just over 16K/10 miles, if not I do have another week to complete UNM's quest for July which is to run 10 miles by the end of the month.
The roar to cheer you on from Grimsby will be me!!
How are you feeling the day before your run?
I am feeling very well today thank you GTFC, on a Tuesday I do the weekly shopping and the main washing for the week, the weather this moring where I am is lovely but tomorrow at the time I will be running it's to be wet, but that won't stop me from running 10 miles, once I get home I will change into dry clothes. I intend to do the whole 16k tomorrow rather than 14K, it means that I will have completed UNM's July Quest to run 10 miles a week earlier than scheduled.
That's it! Positive mindset and visualise yourself doing it. I hope it rains for you. It's the very best way to achieve! Hydrate well today as you always do.
Lovely run, great discipline π
I'm reading more and more posts about running slower to get stronger. At what speed and distance did you start? I'm quite interested in giving this a go when I'm off the I C. Plus, do you do your distances in miles because of your marathon training?
Thank you. I can go quickish if I need to for my age (46). My 5k best is 23.37 but I do prefer longer runs. I'm not really into finding out what my pace zones are but my Garmin watch does it for me. I always prefer to use miles rather than km. I started C25K in November last year at anywhere between 10-11 min mile pace. So actually I'm still a novice really. This month only I've slowed it right down and to 11-11.30 min mile pace on all my runs which feels really comfy but obviously the runs are longer. My best HM is 2.01.34 so this one was much slower but so much more comfy. I'm no expert at all but you can Google 'heart rate training' or 'Maffetone method.'

The Running Channel and GTN on YouTube have great videos too. Thank you once again.
That looks totally unachievable but now Iβve read your post I want to train more and run further, the slower runs really work
They do and everything is relative. I do believe we can go longer and feel stronger by repeatedly running at a slower pace for a while but obviously it takes longer to do the same distance x
Fabulous GTFC! Youβre clearly a natural. ππππ
Thank you. I do feel my limited experience helps now in all sorts of ways.
Fantastic! Interesting to hear about the slower pace/heart rate training. It certainly helped me to slow down on the way to 10k.
Looks great, you're getting through the HMβs!
Oh my word GTFC - you are racking up the miles at the moment, aren't you! ππͺ How lovely to run so far and feel so good! π Brilliant! π
Thank you! I felt really strong and steady for this one. Experience is helping x
Wow, another Half Marathon, there's no stopping you lately!...good job ππ
