Donโt get me wrong, he loves how Iโve embraced running and heโs proud of me for how far Iโve come and how tenacious I am. He knew how much I disliked it!
But he might not be thrilled to hear that Iโve just taken delivery of a brand new pair of beauties. ๐ So? Well, Iโd only just taken delivery of a similar item 2 weeks ago. ๐ถ
Iโm talking trail shoes here. Lots of my running is on trails, even more so recently, and my lovely trusty Asics (top left) must surely have seen better days - although to be fair theyโve just taken me on my Metric HM this morning with no problems whatsoever. Theyโre 2 years old and lots of my long run training has been done in them - so they must need retiring, right?
I ordered a pair of Brooks Pure Grit 5โs (top right) but theyโre really hot, even walking. I thought Iโd save them for winter trails, and did what any bonkers middle aged runner would do and ordered a pair of Brooks Cascadia 14โs (on recommendation from a friend). They were on sale too. ๐๐
And so here they are. ๐ I canโt wait to run in them, but my legs would fall off if I went out again this morning.
Mr Cheeky might not even notice .... ๐ค ๐ ๐

Good shoes for you, I am sure Mr Cheeky won't mind, good run for both of us this morning, I ran EXACTLY 13K this morning, not a metric HM as part of UNM's quest to run just over 16K or 10 miles by the end of the month, I enjoyed that 13K as much as you enjoyed your 13.1K.๐๐๐พ๐
Well done Al! I donโt know whether you have humid weather up there too, but it certainly is here. A lovely run though, and what a lovely surprise to return home to my new trainers! ๐
I began my run at 7.10am shortly after light rain โ had just gone off, the temperature was 12C/54F and the humidity was 97%, all I was wearing was my running cap, T Shirt, shorts and of course my still blue running shoes, I avoided the wooded muddy part of the route and instead ran a few more laps around the houses that all the occupants have at least two cars, some have three, also in that area I have seen a few runners come out of their homes.
We began running at almost exactly the same time Al! Mine was on a towpath, with no puddles this week to speak of. It was grey and about 14 degrees, but the humidity made it feel warmer - I do tend to โrun hotโ though. ๐โโ๏ธ
Ooh Cheeky!! .....very nice!! ๐คฉ๐คฉ I like the self-talk too...โTheyโre 2 years old and lots of my long run training has been done in them - so they must need retiring, right?โ Sooooo...letโs just say โyesโ! ๐๐!
Thank you Fab! I think I need to hear people say my sneaky purchase was justifiable! I look upon them as an investment in my hard working running legs! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Years ago I decided that the path to happiness lay in never looking too closely at our current account ! I am really good at not noticing what I am not supposed to notice; it will be fine ๐
Yes, what sage advice BC! Thank you. ๐ I donโt like buying clothes for myself (except running gear - obviously) so I save money in other ways! ๐
Well I did try to give myself a trim, and only succeeded in shaving a chunk of hair out right down to the scalp ! I had carefully fitted the longest cutting head, but managed to use the trimmer upside down ๐Mrs BC took over, so it isnโt too bad, but it definitely needs sorting out.
Iโm sure Mr Cheeky wouldnโt even notice except that youโll be so excited that you wonโt be able to not show your family members your new shoes. Just think how much money you are saving Mr C by running instead of wandering around the shops at Cribbs Causeway!
Love them. When I bought my first pair of Brooks it never occurred to me that I would wear them out and they would need replacing each year. Ignorance is bliss.
Youโre so right Dexy5 . I could be into expensive high heels or posh frocks. No, not me. So yes, Iโm saving a packet! ๐ฐ
Iโm not sure the rest of the family will share my enthusiasm about a โmere pair of trainersโ though. ๐ I think theyโre beautiful! ๐๐๐
You tempted me; I had a look; I succombed..... Well, they were on offer, as you say and l love my Cascadia 13 trail shoes. Just don't tell my husband ๐
Ahh fantastic JF! Which colour did you choose? Theyโre so comfy arenโt they - although Iโve yet to run in mine. ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Ooo same as mine! Theyโre lovely arenโt they? ๐๐ Definitely meant to be for you, so it would have been rude not to buy them! You did the right thing! ๐
Lovely new shoes! I like to baffle Mr Slinky with similar styles in similar colours so that he can't tell... Also, if any kind of justification is required, all kinds of footwear are actually an 'investment'! ๐
Ahh yes. I was reading the reviews of the various Cascadias, misswobble , and they were narrower for a few models. Apparently the 14โs are wider again - must be, because I have pretty wide feet and they feel perfect.
You can never have too many pairs of running shoes and i can't say anything as a few weeks ago I bought myself another pair of Nike vomero 14 because I love running in them so much then someone sent me a link with even more money off them and bought another pair. The way I look at it we won't need any new shoes for a while , or will we ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Youโre right there Buddy34 ! Spend the money now, and no need to spend it in the future (hmmm - not sure it works that way, but thatโs the theory isnโt it?!) ๐
Plus a sale is a sale. Rude not to take advantage I think. ๐ฐ ๐โโ๏ธ๐
My first ever pair of properly fitted running shoes were ASICS and I still use them for dog walks. Havenโt tried any other brands. Are your new Brooks good?
I love my Asics Sue, and Iโm not sure if they really needed changing - but theyโve had 2 hard years so Iโm sure they must! I havenโt actually run in the new Brooks yet. I did (Not) PR this morning but the route I use is just very short grass, trail shoes not required.
The Cascadias will go for a jaunt next week and I canโt wait! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Oh lovely cheeky! Itโs got to be done and two years is a long time to keep them going.
My trail shoes are really hot too and Iโm thinking I may have to change them as well but Iโm in the same position as you because Iโve just had to buy some new Ghost 12s and I need some new walking boots. Katnap has more than me anyway, so he canโt complain!!
At the end of the day, we can never have tooo many shoes!!
Hope you enjoy as many runs as you can in them ๐
Maybe you could be like me (๐) and pick up a pair of new trail shoes on sale, and keep your hot ones for the winter TC? Personally I canโt abide hot feet so it had to be done!
๐คฃ I have complained in the past that they felt like I was wearing duvets on each feet! And I could do with them being a little more waterproof...oh no, what have you done! I'm going to have to look now ๐คฃ
I had to join to reply, ooo they look fantastic, sure Mr Cheeky might not notice just pop them in with the others and heโll think they were always there
