Went and ruddy did it! I set the metronome at 150 bpm on the northern part of the Camel Trail in Cornwall. The time’s no great shakes and my cadence certainly dropped off for the last 10 km but I hung on to the bitter end.
A great feeling despite lying exhausted on the sofa now!!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to you HeavyFoot on completing your first Half Marathon, HM badge can be got by going to the Marathon Running Graduate page and telling the administrators that you have ran your first HM, I am not sure if you have to show them that graphic as proof or perhaps the one at the top of this post is enough to prove that you have ran your first HM, once again congratulations.
I am gradually increasing my distance by 1K a week until I get to run 10 miles, I assume that you gradually increased your running distance week by week until you got to the Half Marathon distance. 😊 🏃🏾 🎓
Thank you Al. Much appreciated. It didn’t go quite to plan. Amongst my other runs, 6 weeks ago I ran 12 km, 3 weeks ago 15 km. Today was only supposed to be 18 km but my logic was “it’s not raining and I’m already knackered so why not go the whole hog?”
First of all the badge /words HALF. MARATHON are now next to your username 😊 🏃🏾 🎓,
I ran 12K last Wednesday and next week I should run 13K, like you say you planned to run 18K but at that distance being so near 21K or HM you just continued to run until you ran your first HM, it made me think that the day I intend to run 14K in two weeks I might just continue on to just over 16K ten miles, I will decide whether or not to do that on the day. 😊.
I can't recommend my approach: it's always safest to keep to a programme. But three of my longest runs, 10 km, 10 miles and now the HM have been done by getting lost or "winging it" on impulse.
It will be very tempting or as you call it "winging it" to continue running onto 16K the day I intend to run 14K, my route is on a almost 3K loop around a Scottish Loch, I know where the kilometer points are and can see them when I am running I will see how I feel and PERHAPS continue on thinking about the following week when I will be back to running 5K or at the most 10K runs, it really does depend on how I feel on the day 😊 🏃🏾
AlMorr , just an idea - why not make your 13k run a “metric HM” and do 13.1k? That’s what I’m going to do on my next long run. Makes it more fun somehow! 😀
Thank you GTFC. When I started C25K in September 2018 the most exercise I got was fetching milk from the fridge. It took its time, especially with a few months on the IC, but it's been worth it.
Well done, I keep saying I don’t want to run ... further, but if I still feel ok after the 10k I do carry on, not much further I’ve only got up to 12k so far, but you make me feel anything is possible so you never know.
Hi Lexi6, usually I wake up at around 5am and look for a report from you on how you ran at parkrun, I don't see any report today so I assume you did not run at parkrun today.
Today I will be running my 17th virtual, 4th (not) parkrun on the occasion of my first Parkrunniversary, yes it was exactly a year ago that I ran my first parkrun, 17 is an interesting number for me, I have run 17 official parkruns and as I say today will be my 17th virtual one.
Hiya Alan, I’m a bit late with my report, it was a very cold start to parkrun this morning at just 3 degrees, ran it 40 seconds faster than last week and but am loving being back. Golly all the 17’s for you. Have fun today 👍
I am struggling to move through from 7miles - I think my body is finding all this new found ambition a but of a shock! I have to keep reminding myself that at the start of the year I was running for about 15 minutes a week and now it is running 15 miles.
Congratulations HeavyFoot what a fabulous achievement. You’ve shown us that, with the right mindset and determination, anything is achievable, a true inspiration. 😊
Very many congratulations. That is a fabulous job.
Look at all those calories begging to be dealt with!
🎉 Congratulations!👏 An amazing achievement and I can't think of a nicer route for a steady HM. I've cycled the entire trail and run 5k of it (all in the same day!) but would love to do a HM one day. Enjoy basking in success in the Cornish sun. ☀️
Many thanks!! I started at the northernmost point at Wenford bridge and turned round at Dunmere where the Trail forks east to Bodmin or west to Padstow. One day I’ll get my bike fixed and do it all. 🐖🐖👈flying pigs
Lovely! You could always have a go on an E-Bike - we've got mountain bikes but are thinking of getting E-Bikes to tackle more hills. 15 year old son thinks this is cheating but he has youthful energy on his side! 🤣
