COVID-19 Run Streak and very hot HM!🥵

Hi VRBs, hope you’re all well and enjoying your running as best as you can in this heat!🥵

I finished a 100-day Run Streak this morning with half marathon in and around Bognor Regis.🏃‍♂️

I can’t pretend it’s been easy or fun all the way, but I’ve learnt a lot about what I can achieve😊

If you’re thinking of going out in the heat, make sure you’re properly hydrated and take things very easily. Don’t be afraid to walk (or even stop)if you need to🙂 You’re unlikely to break any records after all☺️

I used a hydration vest this morning and found it very helpful👍 It takes a bit of getting used to though, particularly the sloshing of water!💦💦

Happy running everyone🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Wow! Congratulations on your run streak David - and a HM this morning? That must have been tough in this heat - well done! 👏💪

I bought a hydration vest (when I was running longer distances than I am at the moment) but have never used it! Mine is an Aonijie one too - are they hot to wear?

Thanks Sandra, yes it was the HM this morning!🙂 I couldn’t have done it without the hydration vest.💦 It weighs more when it’s filled with water of course, but I didn’t find it particularly hot to wear🥵 The weight goes down as you drink the water of course and you soon don’t notice it at all (at least I didn’t!) I tend to use it for all runs over 10k, but just the 2 little bottles in the chest pouches normally🙂👍

Sounds great - might have to dig mine out. Now that my niggly knee seems to have settled , I am starting to lengthen my runs again. 🙂

Good luck with it Sandra, I wouldn’t be without mine now on longer runs😊👍

Wow 100 days of running and finishing with a HM in this heat , I'm very impressed David. 👏👏👏👏🌞🏃‍♂️

Can I just ask where did you get your hydration vest with bladder as at the moment I have a belt that holds 2 water bottles and stuff but I'd prefer the vest 😊

Hi Buddy, the make is Aonijie and I got it on Amazon. The cost was between £20 to £30 for the basic model, which suits me just fine.

I started out with a belt but found it awkward to use as my arms kept hitting the bottles.

The belt is driving me mad as it keeps riding up. Thanks will look on amazon👍

Mine keeps riding down 🙈🙈

This is the one me and cheekychipmunks have got (in blue), and you buy a water bladder there too. I only put half a litre of water in The 2l bladder, but you’ll work out how much you need.

Massive congratulations on both the run streak and a voluntary HM in this heat. Great job. But what next? A well deserved rest?

Thanks linda9389 Yes, I think a couple of days off running would be a good plan!😊

Absolutely brilliant David! What an amazing running streak, all capped off by a HM on the hottest day of the year so far. Kudos a thousand times over! 👍🏃‍♂️🎉

You have the same hydration vest as I do. I haven’t read all the replies and someone may have told you already, but there’s an easy tip to stop the sloshing. Simply fill the bladder as much as you want, then hold it upside down and suck the air out. Bingo, it works a treat! 😀

I hope you’re taking a few days of rest now - you’ve earned them! 👊

Thanks cheekychipmunks I hadn’t thought of sucking the air out! What a simple solution😀 I’ll give that a try next time.🙂👍

Well done David - excellent stuff. The secret to end the sloshing water is to turn the bladder upside down and open the valve and let the air escape. I used a hydration vest while working up to 10 miles and was grateful for it on hot days and having all those pockets for eating goodIes is great.

I’m not sure my body would like a running streak, but well done you . A great time to do it.

Thanks Dexy5, Cheekychipmunks suggested the tip about removing air from the bladder too🙂 I’ll definitely do that next time I use it👍 Similar to you, I use the hydration vest with just the 2 small front bottles for distances from 10k-16k, then the bladder too for over 16k💦 The run streak came to an end with this HM and I rested for a couple of days before doing just a 3k this morning.

Back to work tomorrow so I’ll start the day with a 2k as I was doing during the streak. I’m just going to run for fun for a few weeks, rather than towards any particular goal, while I decide on my next target.🙂👍

Sorry, I didn’t see cheekychipmunks reply. Working out how to open the bite valve was my problem, but she came to the rescue there.

No I used the bladder (with zero to improve the taste!) from the 12k on and filled the pockets with flapjack apricots and dates to keep energy levels up.

Good luck at work; it will be strange commuting again but nice to see colleagues.
