My scheduled run today was going well, really easy and comfortable. Cardio fine, breathing comfy, legs soft. Somewhere around the 28th km there was a strange deep ping somewhere in the mid leg, couldn't figure out where. Stopped to stretch, felt a bit better, carried on and at the 30th km the game was up. Couldn't use the right leg any longer. Standing up or sitting down, no pain. Trying to move, even walk - nope, some weird painful cramp like sensation wouldn't let me. Had to lift it up with my arm to get on the bus, lol. Now I'm much better but I'll get right to the bottom of this. Oh, and for you The Beatles aficionados out there, the run ended by the famous Abbey Road crossing outside the studios..

That does not sound good! Hopefully you can get it seen/diagnosed somewhere! Sorry your planned ultra didn't happen.
So frustrating. Your finishing spot was not far from me. Hope you recover soon.
Iβm currently resting from running (rediscover per my bike for a while) having done something similar but less dramatic on a half-marathon distance.
The idea was to visit many a rock spot along the way, including Lennon down in Montagu sq, Hendrix and Bowie in Mayfair, etc. Done it all before, leg is much better now and I'll give it a week or so rest. It's all so tempting because I've pencilled in the entire 50k route to the last meter. π
Oh no! You sound very philosophical about it but it must be very disappointing. Hope it heals fast.
Did you have a face-covering with you? If not, you'd not have been allowed on the bus by tomorrow ... it'd have been a long walk home! Yeah, I know. That's not much of a bright side ...
Good luck, you don't deserve this I'm sure.
π, thank you Linda! I'm fine actually. I know what and why it happened, the leg is much better now and I'll ring the physio in the morning. Not in pain and I can walk!
Yes, I had the face cover in the backpack as I planned to travel back from London Bridge once I hit 50km. I treated bus 2 from Marble Arch to sarf London with a rare comedy appearance of a middle aged marionette with a stiff right leg in full Boston Celtics gear, face mask, cool dark shades and headgear. Even in an emergency, I will make sure I make an effort. π
Iβm sorry it didnβt work out this time mate. Glad itβs feeling better now though. Hope your knee is ok to continue training. Iβve been on the IC since my last long run too. Two weeks off now. Only cycling and walking. Frustrating but not entirely unexpected given these intense mileage weeks. Just had a short mostly pain free 5k on Friday. Skipped today to rest everything. Fingers crossed it holds up through this first easy week before the actual plan starts next week. The body is a marvel and a mystery!
Thanks buddy. I still can't figure out where the pain and disability came from. Now that it's just raw I can feel it from somewhere in the thigh to somewhere on the side of the knee, and below, but I know it's not the Achilles. I can walk, can bend the leg, nothing's broken. Never mind. I'll give it a good rest and go again carefully. Today, for the first time, the marathon distance wasn't feeling hard or long. I guess that's coz my mind is now all set to 50k. π! Hope your niggles heal soon, this running thing is way too important for many of us!
Here's hoping it was just a passing niggle Mr R.
And whatever about Paul and Co. - if you had gone just a wee bit further you would have been in my old patch from back in the '80s lol.
Hey John! It's just pressure from overworking, it's not a 'proper' injury. I'm much better now but I'll rest up properly and take it a bit easier. Yeah, I like that part of town, lots of history.
