Time for another 10 mile run, inspired by Peter44 π after his successful run!
What a glorious morning for a long run! You know, sometimes you go out for a run and everything is right. You feel good. No, you feel great! Your pace just ..... works! Your body warms up properly and the effort seems minimal. You enjoy every step!
I had one of those runs this morning. Everything was good. I knew I was on for PBs as well, which was the icing on the cake. I always enjoy my shower more if PBs are involved π
Iβve never been super speedy, but I do like to feel Iβm progressing. I am now able to control these 10 mile runs fairly well. It takes me about 3K to warm up, then a couple more to unfold. Today I started to pick up pace, even while the run was ebbing and flowing. If I speed up and start to get tired, I just back off for a while. On this run I was surprised that my pace at about halfway was under 8:00 min and improved on almost every km to the end of the run. The last 4 km it was under 7:30. It was consistent running. The last full kilometre it was 6:35. For me, that was fast! I had PBs for 10 miles, 15K and 10K. Ooh yessss! π
Really enjoyed my after run shower, followed by coffee and the Breakfast of Champions πββοΈπΏ βοΈπ₯£ π

Beautiful run, beautifully ran what a Sunday spin for the legs Jools2020 ππ
Thanks, Diane. Well, Iβd already done a couple of 10Ks this year. Time for a longer one today. Couldnβt believe that final km pace after having run 15K already! I was jet propelled π
You really are doing so brilliantly. That's a great average pace for such a long run. How I long to do a long run again - but I'll soon be off the IC and hope to build back up again. You are just amazing and proof of how patience and practice comes good!
Thank you, Roxdog. This was one of those runs that had it all! The pace surprised me.
I read on another post you had been on a walk /jog today. Thatβs great news. Hopefully it wonβt be too long before you can go out on one of your much loved long runs π
Heh, i'm glad i inspired you Jools π your run sounds perfect, and all those PB's too, and your pace is fast, especialy that last km π₯΅ it's brilliant when a run feels like this, everything just feeling good! π i was on my own today, so just music, and nrc behaved today, no 5min km's π€£ anyway, i bet that coffee and breakfast was extra good, after that! π
Your pace inspired me, too! Maybe I set off just that little bit faster than usual π and the rest of the run kind of followed and everything seemed to just happen the way I wanted it to. Coffee and porridge always taste good after a long run. Better if I think I have achieved! Donβt know where that last km came from, though. Thatβs a challenge for me even on a 5K run. π
My last km, on these longer runs is usualy pretty slow, not sure why i went of so fast today, maybe as i was on my own π€·ββοΈ as i've got so lazy, getting up late, i have a snack before run, but sometimes dont eat till 2/3pm π€£
I have half a banana 90 minutes before runs of 10K or longer and I take an electrolyte drink with me on those longer runs, too (I like Tailwind). And a couple of bite sized flapjacks. All this helps, Iβm sure, with energy for the second half of the run. I eat breakfast within half an hour of getting home as I read somewhere that you should. Iβm usually starving! Often have 2 breakfasts π
Thanks - still not really sure how it happened π but Iβll take it! Iβm usually a lot slower. It just didnβt seem like the same effort today - the stars must have been aligned π. Had a soak in the bath as well this afternoon! Must have used all the hot water today π
Thanks! π Each time Iβve run for 10 miles Iβve got more confident. This time, I knew Iβd be able to run the distance without a problem. Wasnβt expecting the PBs until I saw my pace increasing over the last 4K. π
