The HM is in sight!

I completed 10 miles today so feeling very happy, actually delighted! I wanted to ask what people use for security whilst running. I do about 60/70% trail running and don't have my phone, just my Garmin. Do you take your phone or just hope for the best like me?

Hope everyone is safe and keep running and smiling!

Well done to you on the 10 miles! You should feel delighted, it’s a long old way to run 🏃‍♀️🙂 You’ll have to get your badge, just ask for it on the pinned posts here.

I run with a Garmin, my phone and an attack alarm like this one as I normally run on trails or country roads.

amazon.co.uk/Defender-Coope...

I also downloaded a security app on my phone which alerts your named person in the event of an attack but I’m not going to recommend it as I think it kept causing my phone to crash which sort of defeated the purpose of having it in the first place 🙄 but there are others around. Hopefully someone here will recommend one or you can do a search online and look at various options.

I always tell my husband where I’m going and what time I should be back. It all helps.

Good luck with the rest of your running and HM here you come!

First up, congratulations on your 10 mile achievement, - you have every right to be delighted, it's a great distance, and really not much further now to the full HM. You now have a shiny badge, and it looks very good there against your name!

I always take my phone on every run, even though I use my watch to record everything. I did fall once, and although I was OK I remember being very glad I had it with me as I tentatively picked myself up off the floor. Sometimes I set Garmin tracking on so my hubbie can keep an eye on where I am, but I have to say I don't do that so much any more. Maybe I should be a bit more safety conscious!

I run with my phone, essential for the Spotify! I also have WhatsApp installed, this has a share location feature which lets Mrs Windy follow my every move in real-time for up to 8 hours, not gone beyond the 8 hours just yet. Often run with my hounds so I guess they add a layer of protection. This could be your excuse to get a BIG DOG!!! Oh, you ran ten miles, maybe a Greyhound would make the ideal canine companion:-)

How do you get into the share location feature on WhatsApp windyrider? Is it possible to share with just 1 or 2 people?

in reply toDexy5

from your list of chats/contacts open a chat, tap the paperclip icon, tap location, tap Share live location, select time 15 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours, add message if needed like "Just off to run 26 miles should be back in around 2 hours" tap green send icon. I guess for multiple contacts you just open more chats with more folks. Have fun out there.

Woooo, 10 miles! The final milestone before the big one - well done! 👏👏👏

I always take my phone as well as wearing my Garmin. I secrete it in an arm holder as a rule. I wouldn’t feel safe without it - in case of injury to me, or an emergency where someone needed to get hold of me (the latter has happened ....)

Good luck with the final stretch of your HM training! 😀

I always carry my phone in case of emergency and a piece of paper with hubby's phone number on (my Parkrun barcode!) and enable Garmin LiveTrack when I am running on my own.

Didn't know about the WhatsApp share location feature. Might try that too as Garmin LiveTrack failed yesterday.

Statistically it is extremely unlikely that anything will happen to us but it's peace of mind for our next of kin.

I have only used my phone once on a run, to call the dog warden about a stray dog. And my hubby called me once, to ask what size cycling top he should buy (very urgent and important).

Exciting! Well done!!!

I always take my phone with me on runs. I tried using Google Map location sharing for the first time last week - managed to pick the one day that Google Maps had a glitch 😂
