Hi there, half marathoners!!!

Hope you've all had a good time over the past week!

How are you all feeling about starting a new year with a shiny new training plan? Or, if you've already started a plan, how did you fit it around the December shenanigans? I have just started my new marathon plan, and I'm feeling pretty chuffed (if a bit nervous!) 😊😊😊

I'd just like to say, with the new year and the new decade approaching, many of us feel like we're getting a fresh start - so let's make the most of that feeling and get into our training filled with optimism and excitement!!! If you're feeling a bit sluggish after overindulging, don't worry! Maybe take the first couple of runs a little easier than planned, and you'll soon be back on track.

I've had a bit too much of a good festive period! πŸ˜‚

Still managed a few runs tho, making the most of being able to run in daylight 😊

Not started any plans as yet tho...

A 10k and 3x 5k runs last week and 17k completed this morning. β€œOnly” 4k to go 😬Going to get the bike out on Friday to try out my new mudguards! Happy New Year πŸ₯³ xx

Happy new year ! I have fallen off my training wagon , hard. I never got back on it after the chesty lurgy cough, that lingered for ever. Been eating and drinking way too much. Only 7 weeks until the brighton HM. Managed 6k this morning, to be fair I know it's not far, but I can knock that out easy now compared to last year. So just got to get up to 21k in 7 weeks.....what could go wrong 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Managed better over the last couple of weeks than I did the fortnight before.

I’m not quite at the halfway mark of my plan and it had us do 14k on Sunday and wants us to do 14.5 tomorrow, which we’ll do 11k of on a social Canicross run and the rest before everyone else turns up.

πŸ•πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ (or after if I’m running late. No pun intended.)

It turned out to be a benchmark run My Garmin packed up at 1.65km Dunno what happened there. My new plan sees me running a lot this week It has me down for a 15 km on Sunday. I think this plan will change overnight. It does that depending on how runs pan out Hopefully I won't have to run 15k this early on into the plan!

I'm juggling my HM plan as ever ... par for the course for me 😍. Full of enthusiasm, but thinking of cutting my runs back even more so I have 3 or 4 days between runs; I would then do two runs per cycle instead of three - one long and one speed run, followed by one long and one pace run and repeat. I need to make sure the bone is healed enough to take the longer distance - cutting down from two shorter runs to just one might increase my chances of keeping the bone intact while still being ready for March. It's not ideal, but it would be better than cancelling! The 14k run yesterday got me two thirds of the way to the finish line which felt good ... sadly with two enormous blisters despite the new shoes πŸ˜₯πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

That all sounds very sensible Linda. How were the Hokas over the long distance - comfortable ?

I had no problem with the distance but my feet started burning around 8k and I'm now sporting a blister on both feet - in the exact spot that the Brooks and the Sauconys caused blisters - despite leukotape and twinskin socks. Disappointed and not sure what to do next! I'll probably not try returning them as they are lovely over a short distance, but not sure what to do for long distance. I think these were probably the worst to date πŸ™„πŸ€¬πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

At the bottom of the inside edge of the ball of the foot, where the side of the shoe meets the sole.

You may well have already seen this, but if not it is interesting, and you can get those Engo patches from Amazon - definitely a different approach to blister prevention to try!:

I have also previously read this article, which suggests using tincture of benzoin and zinc oxide nappy rash cream to help keep hot spots dry. Both of these items are unfortunately tricky to get hold of in this country:

Thanks for these. I wonder if the engo patches are like compeed? I have even managed to blister this spot with compeed and fixomull and leukotape on top! I will try engo though if I can get hold of them. My blisters are not on the ball so much as at the inside edge of my foot, where it starts to narrow again in the direction of the heel. My guess is that my foot is moving in the shoe and it may be that lacing up tighter may help (having originally loosened laces to see if that helped!). I did at least manage with the Sauconys, so may just get a new pair of those. Going to try a different run shop today to see what they can offer!

In the video they are putting the Engo patches on the sock liner of the shoe, not on the foot at all!!

I have had a blister in that area, it was caused by a shoe, but I found I got some recurrance of it with other shoes for a while - I think it takes quite a time for the weakness to go away unfortunately 😟

The Sudocreme sounds similar to that. I’ve got some of that so might try it. I’m like Linda in the blister department. got Compeed and the 1000 Mike socks too Shoes seem irrelevant as I’ve got blisters with em all It’s a game innit 🀨

Yeah, Sudocrem is worth a try! But your personal running mechanics may well be a factor, unfortunately:

Yes, it’s a pity but it goes with the territory Ta for the link. Will have a read. I saw a biomechanic, courtesy of my nhs physio, when I was being treated for shin splints. Something else I share with Linda. They recommended low drop shoes, which I followed up and prefer them now

I’ve gone a bit awry with my training over the hols too, although I have continued regular running, plus I’ve done more hills than usual. I’ve also thrown in the occasional longer run - today I did 12k - but I must admit I’ve steered clear of JRS, which I WILL resume next week. πŸ˜‡ My HM is on March 15th, so I feel confident enough for that. 🀞

So volunteering at PR tomorrow, maybe a short trail run on Thursday, my 51st PR on Saturday, and next week is all systems go! πŸ’₯

Yes! It was a slow one, partly because I’m not speedy, but mostly because there were so many people that I had to walk for the first 50 yards or so! Amazing number of people did the double and ran between the two locals. I was designated driver running a taxi to the first and then home from the second so I couldn’t do it this year. Booked in for jan 1st 2021! Happy running!xx

Happy new year everyone πŸ₯³ I’m happy to say that my knee feels much better so I’m going to do parkrun tomorrow. Then I’ll be climbing back up to 10km. My HM plans may be pushed out a bit but I’m not putting pressure on myself. There is always a HM.

I got caught up in the scrum and ran the first kilometre way too fast and up a hill. After feeling like throwing up, i settled into it but still ended up with a PB. That wasn't what I was trying to do at all.....

HNY to all in our HM Plan group!

Ran only one joggy 5k in the last month - treated Dec as a sort-of end of year recovery period with the added benefit of the imbibing of far too much festive food and drink. ☺ Luckily, only an extra kilo or two damage, so nothing the 2020 training won't whip into shape.

Getting down to business now with my tried and tested idiot-proof HM Plan of a weekly 5k slow jog, 10k run and a long jog/run (10k + 10% or 1km increase each week)...The long run becoming more of a run and less of a jog as and when my fitness says "Yes"/ it feels right / I get a sudden rush of blood to the head.

Moving through to marathon training as soon as I reach 21k as a long run.

After the Winterval. getting back on track... :)

Finished 31 days of running for Marcothon yesterday...and now going to build up the longer runs. I did do quite few minimum 25 runs, as I really did not want any injuries:)

I had a rest today.. just did some walking in the Peak District! Gorgeous:)

Looking forward to being here and running alongside everyone all the way to our HMs.. thanks you ... your Marathon plan sounds great!

Walking in the Peaks - so gorgeous!!!

My plan is a bit full-on with 5 runs a week, so I will probably swap the odd run for a bike ride, but I'm happy to push myself this time - I missed the crazy schedule I had in 2018 😊😊😊
