Home confinement in Spain

Hi, everybody. We finished our first week today and have three more to do. I wish I were talking about a training programme but, unfortunately, I mean being confined at home. Have run a couple of kilometres in the corridor of my school twice this week as I'm closed but sending stuff out to candidates and students but...... Well, yesterday I ordered a treadmill as there is no way I can feel good if I don't run for three more weeks. Hopefully, the hardworking delivery people will bring it soon so I can start a whole new challenge. Has anybody got any advice for someone who has only ever run on roads? Stay safe everybody. :) xx

I can’t advise on treadmills as I really don’t like them and am so grateful that out in the sticks here we can still get out.

I was half listening to BBC World Service this morning and heard about someone who has run marathon on his balcony. 6000 lengths and it took 6 hours. Glad I don’t live underneath him!!

Yes, I saw that too! If I didn't live in a tiny village house, I would be going the same thing!!! Maybe not a marathon! :)

Lots of stairs in your house?

Yes, but very steep and made of stone. A bit dangerous...

A 10K, sorry that you can't get outside for a run, I was looking at some webcams from Italy and Spain of their beaches, not one person on them despite the fact that there wasn't a cloud in the sky., so far here in the UK we can get outside for a walk or run, but everyone is wondering for how long.

Make the most of it! As they say, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. :( Having said that, people are losing so much more than me so I have to be thankful for what I've got and dream about running in the open air again.

Can't advise on the treadmill - but good luck. Yes, we must enjoy our outside runs here while we can - they may also be gone soon. πŸ˜•

Take care.πŸ™‚

Thanks! Treadmill will be better than nothing. :)

Grit your teeth and bear it? Buy a fan or two to go with it? Find a good on demand tv series? Keep the faith that you will be back outside soon, this is but a blip on your running journey?

I hate mine and hardly ever use it, but when I have to ... I'm so grateful I have it. Good luck. Focus on your fitness and it will be fine πŸ‘πŸ˜

Thank you! I have to wait a week so I'll let you know how I get on when it arrives! :)

I was toying with the idea of buying a treadmill just in case too Tjcp. But knowing how much use it would get after this crisis is over - absolutely none - is making me hold back. Plus I’m lucky enough to have a decent sized garden ......

If you do bite the bullet, be prepared for boredom and heat. There are some people who use them regularly though, so maybe you’ll get some useful tips from them!

Good luck, and stay safe. πŸ˜€

Thanks for the advice! I thought too about the use I would make of it when all this is over (fingers crossed) but there are times when I have very little time in the morning before classes and would probably do a quick session. My priority now is to get back to running as soon as I can. Also, there is talk in the news that there might be a second wave of the virus in winter so forewarned is forearmed. :)

Watch virtual runs whilst tread milling and there are some great synced apps out there...

Wow, that sounds like a good idea if I can sort it out! :) Maybe I could film my own run when I get back out there so I can exercise inside and watch it at the same time? :) :)

I had a treadmill until last year. Perching my ipad on the treadmill and TV series kept me going. Otherwise it was pretty hard going - although excellent for intervals.

Well, I have the ipad and hope there will be somewhere to prop it up too. Can't imagine running without a view but so much better than not running at all! :)
