Quite a week eh? I daresay we've all been affected by what is happening in some way or another. I made a personal choice not to go to Bath, even though my Half Marathon was one of very few to still go ahead. I did however run the distance locally, complete with Bath race bib which raised a few smiles and one callout from a fellow runner who was running a virtual Hampton Court HM for the same reason, and achieved a PB too ,so all my training hasn't been in vain. I do hope you are all still getting out to run, but as things progress I suspect the value of this community will increase even further. Keep running. Keep talking. Keep chatting. And let's all look forward to the day when our races are back to a normal schedule.
Howโs your week been? Let us know below.
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
I'm not sure anyone will be booking new events for March or April at the moment, but here's the links just in case: ๐๐๐
My 10k in 2 weeks and HM in 3 weeks have both been postponed/cancelled. I have decided that I am going to declare this week a taper week, then attempt my virtual HM next week.
Itโs easy to feel disappointed, but I thought Iโd share these words from a lady in my local running group:
โSo when covid- 19 led to many major events around the world being cancelled/ postponed including my 1st VLM, yes I was gutted, itโs a natural response, but in the grand scheme of things the event has been cancelled to protect the โmostโ vulnerable people in our society and I for one fully respect that!! A life lost compared to completing an event... simply doesnโt compare!!
There are many more people worse off than me not running a marathon on a specified date, including people with the virus, businessโ struggling.... I donโt see that training has been โwastedโ because I for one use running as a way of being healthy, socialising with like-minded people, an escapism of my thoughts and thatโs exactly what it has been for me these past few months and Iโll continue to do it.โ
So well said! Every time I passed someone walking or running or riding on my run yesterday- nicely spread out on the path in the fresh air, I acknowledged just how lucky we all were. Having had a dreadful week of indecision, the moment I took my first running step yesterday I realised my face had broken into a smile. Not forced. Not conscious. Just a spontaneous reaction to the best thing that had happened all weekend ๐
Youโre right linda9389 , this community will no doubt help us all through some difficult weeks (hopefully not months) ahead. We need to keep running and keep chatting to each other. โค๏ธ
The thought of all the people on here and Strava, plus our new found Virtual Bath Half FB group, certainly helped me with my PB yesterday too! Well done on yours! โค๏ธ
Virtual is the way to go for a while I think! So long as our feet keep hitting the ground for real ๐ Congratulations on your Half yesterday, a tough ask - solo and in the pouring rain!
Just been out with my virtual coach for a very spring-like run around my locale ๐
Still training for Sundayโs HM. Whether it happens or not is anyoneโs guess ๐คทโโ๏ธ I shall proceed with the happy expectation that it will, and thereโll be buns after ๐๐ฐ๐โโ๏ธ๐ช๐
If itโs off I will still run the distance but with coach Bennett - if my phone will last that long
Have a good week folks ๐ช๐๐๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Iโm waiting to hear about Monsal too although Iโm only doing the 10k. If itโs on itโs a bonus, but if not at least I did manage to do my HM, which was the one Iโd have been most gutted about.
Itโs not been cancelled yet. I saw a question on the Nice Work.org Facebook, but as Iโm not a member, I canโt see the responses Can you have a look ๐ if youโre on FB? Ta ๐
Just looked on the Facebook page and all Nice Work events are cancelled until the end of April. They will look to rearrange and entry will be transferred. They are also offering that, if the rearranged date is not convenient, we can have a credit for any Nice Work event in 2020 or 2021
Happy to hear no mention of the offending calf - assume that's good news? You'll have to run fast Miss W - outrun the battery! Fingers crossed for Monsal, but if not you better get baking!
๐ I ran yesterday and no probs ๐๐ Running a short one today. Going to run back through town to see if I can find bog roll. Dock leaves at this rate ๐.
I just got back from run/shop. No bog rolls. I got a six pack of handbag tissues from Wilko. Got my porridge oats so thatโs all right then
In my garden I am not so bothered about weeds in the lawn as I like the bees to have access to dandelion flowers My neighbour mows her lawn daily on her giant machine. So she comes to me for weeds for her tortoise ๐ข and giant lop-eared bunny rabbit ๐ ๐๐
Here I am, with 3 kids at home doing online schooling and I have work that needs to be done. It's good to be able to out for runs. As some of you probably know, most of Norway has been virtually shut down. No restriction on movement, but schools have been shut and people have been sent home to work. Luckily I live in a country that can afford to organize school for children whose parents have vital societal functions. And it looks like there will be funds for us sole traders. I have work now, but don't expect there to be much next month or going ahead.
I was going to write more about my thoughts about running in the age of coronavirus, but will start a separate post - unless you're all too bored with it.
Your thoughts would be very welcome! Tomorrow's spring HM group post will look at alternatives to organised events. But thank goodness at least for solo running.
Well done on your PB Linda! You were obviously in great condition for the day ๐โโ๏ธ๐
My life has changed from yesterday. Mr IP has had a cough since Saturday so heโs been self-isolating and now Iโve got to do the same for 14 days! It means I canโt go and fly over to see my mum โน๏ธ Although Iโd been really worried about that anyway. She is very disappointed as I am but her health has to come first. As Iโm not running, thank goodness I have the garden but I canโt now go to the gym so will have to do stuff at home. ..... and I really should clean the windows and clear out the kitchen cupboards....... I guess many of us will have to change the way we live....
Have a good week everyone and stay healthy, safe and sane ๐
Ahhh, good luck IP. I hope neither of you feel too poorly, take good care. You will have the perfect opportunity now to rest your legs and be fully healed, and at least the decision as to whether or not to go to your Mum's has been taken out of your hands. How does 14 days affect the microblading appt? ๐
I feel fine thanks Linda and Mr IP does too. Heโs just got a cough and no other symptoms so we donโt know but weโre not taking any chances. You canโt can you?
Ooh I havenโt checked yet about the appointment - it might be in jeopardy now..... ๐
Today is my birthday and I really love birthdays, but today has been quite difficult. So many cancellations of events and phone calls from worried clients and our staff worrying about their jobs.
This is going to be a very tough and uncertain time for our business and we're probably going to have to face some life changing decisions that will not only affect us but also the lives of our staff. But there is one thing that will remain consistent and boost my spirits and that is running.
So, here's to you all and happy running. AND we're in the quarter finals of the VRWC! AND somehow I managed a really long run (26k) yesterday after my 10k on Saturday! So my head maybe all over the place over the next few weeks /months, but my body is strong. โค๏ธ
Ahhh, happy birthday! That does sound really, really difficult and all the more so because we have no idea how long we will be affected for. Thank goodness for the running - that's some distance you put in this weekend - super strong ๐ช๐ช๐ช
I just kept running and didn't think! ๐ I feel only a little achy today but may feel it more tomorrow? But I'm sure I'll be fine for more long running this weekend ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ x
Well done on your virtual HM Linda ! On a different note Iโm wondering if anyone has managed to fashion a bidet out of ordinary household implements. Iโm almost out of loo roll. Looking for ideas. ๐ฌ
Well, my pirate game show for younglings is on hiatus for at least twelve weeks, but instead of getting time off and avoiding all the goings on unfortunately it has been deemed that my job is 'broadcast critical', and I'm now having to work the news shifts. Urgh! I moved 500 miles to get away from news! ๐ So alas, rather than self-isolating or even social distancing very effectively I'm somehow working even more than I was before.
So I'm not getting much running done, again, except round the stupid newsroom ๐ Luckily all my events (bar one in November) are cancelled anyway!
There really is no getting away from it is there. But we may soon be envious of you having the newsroom to run around! Please could you ask them to put some fun stuff in the news? Maybe a segment to pilot your pirates?
To be honest, I feel a little fuzzy tonight, there's a strong possibility it might be too much coffee...or maybe I'll wake up feeling worse tomorrow and have to start my 14 day isolation ๐ฌ That won't be popular! ๐
