Oo a bit of a late one this time, sorry gang! Had a computer meltdown at work, had to redo my last couple of hours of work before leaving π π΅π‘ Annnnnd breathe.
A picture of the kitten today, just for anyone that is having a bad Monday like me. Kittens are good for the soul. (Though if you don't like cats I may have made your Monday worse π€)
How's things with you? Any good/bad/interesting runs to report?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Don't forget, if you have an event coming up this coming month (or any changes to one you've mentioned before) let us know in the sticky post! πππ
Bit of a disaster yesterday. I decided to try a long run in my HM plan and for some reason decided to try to run 15k at 10k pace! Result; I realised at 8k that it wasn't going to work, and so speeded up the last 2k for my second fastest 10k! What an idiot! I obviously thought that I have morphed into Mo Farah. 15k is now in the diary for next week with a 7:15 max against it, starting at 7.30 pace. Amazing how careful planning can go out of the window once I start to run and it "feels ok".....eyes on the Garmin from now on.π
I'm more of a dog person than a cat person. Actually, let me rephrase that a little more honestly... I'm only a dog person, can't stand felines, but I would much rather have that kitten come and visit me than the mice that seem to be holidaying in my kitchen at the moment. π
Cheeky little blighters keep eating the food I put out as bait on the traps, and although they keep setting the traps off, I haven't actually caught them yet. Grrrrr!!!!!
As for more running related chatter, I don't have any long runs planned this week as I'm on my recovery week. Whoever suggested I add this into my HM Plan is very wise indeed (thanks roseabi )
RED January is really starting to take its toll now. Only a few days left, so I will complete it, but I don't think I'll ever take on a challenge like this again. Those rest days really are vital, and although some of my runs have only been 1Km gentle jogs, they've still been tough.
My year has started well with hitting my new 10 mile distance market and knocking 89 seconds off my Parkrun PB hitting 31:32 so feeling very positive.
This week I am in Belfast with work so going to take a very easy run and take in some sights. Then at the weekend I am doing some jeffing with one friend, supporting another friend around her first parkrun and then doing a trail run on Sunday with some friends who are marathon training
Had what can only be described as a very good running day (well, evening to be precise).
Got to 10 miles, felt good and pushed on to HM. Came home in 2:30:23. A new PB and a massive 17 minutes 55 off my previous PB.
Slight twinge of annoyance in the knowledge that if I'd run each km a fraction over a second faster, I'd have dipped under 2.5 hours, but I'm still feeling pretty chuffed with myself...
Hooray, cats! π good idea to have a chat thread! So this month I did my first race for 10 years (a nice 5 mile one to start with!), got a park run PB and a 10k PB so am improving slooowly π Am hopeful that next weekend's 10 mile race won't be too tricky, it would have been fine but I twinged/slightly popped out my knee the week before last so have had to do shorter runs last/this week! It is getting a lot better though, so hoping to do a nice 10 mile along the beach this weekend, and then shorter runs next week in the lead up to the race. Going to stick with 10 miles as my weekly long run for now and then build up the distance from March (as I am hoping the too boggy trails will dry out a bit so I can go further) in readyness for my first half in July! π
Now that IS a sweet kitten β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Iβm a cat and dog (and all creatures) person, so any photos of baby ones are sure to brighten my day! Thank you. β€οΈ
No earth shattering runs this week, but Iβve enjoyed them all. 14k was my long HM plan run last week. Iβm pleased because my pace is much more consistent than last time I built up. Just a few seconds difference per split. Last summer I tailed right off after around 12k.
I also did a restorative 5k on the treadmill on Friday which felt good, my adoptive favourite PR on Saturday (Severn Bridge) and a rollercoaster 5k treadmill yesterday. Simply didnβt feel it to begin with and my hand reached out to turn it off - but no. In the end I felt great and pipped up the speed each 0.10k on the final km. Felt pleased and rather righteous!
10k in the mud planned tomorrow! πββοΈπββοΈπΎπΎ
Aw what a gorgeous kitten ππ Iβm a cat person, just love the fact we have to earn their love π
Iβve had a good week, HM training still on track. Had a sports massage for first time in ages with someone new and she was surprised that everything felt good and there were no problem areas, so I was very pleased about that!
No running for a few days as I have a friend staying. Weβre going to see a snowdrop garden today - my other passion after running π·πΌπ»π
Have a good week everyone and healing vibes to those on the IC π
I am still going on my 5k a day.... a recovery week this week of all zone 2 runs which so far have been really lovely. I am also focussing on pull up training as I feel its close now!!!
Iβm doing a bit of strength but I had trouble with Burpees last week π. I am trying to lift Hand weights above my head and some shoulder stretching. i can do yoga instead of strength this week. I think the answer is physical and strengthening it carefully.
Runuary is nearly done and the strangest thing is that I think I really like running every day. Strange because iβm basically quite lazy.
But my stats have all improved, minimal dread at the prospect of having to go out in the dark after a long day at work, none of the usual niggles plus I can see toned muscles appearing. All good!
Hope you're feeling better. Not sure a kitten would do it for me, but said kitten is clearly in the right place!
A week away for me which I'm taking as a cut back week. Did a 5kish speedish run on the hotel treadmill yesterday (discrepancy between garmin and treadmill, so not sure it really was a speed run, but it was at least 5k and very sweaty!). Home at the weekend with a 20k long, slow run on the plan. Will see. I do have wriggle room if I'm not feeling the inclination on Sunday π€£. Have a good week everyone.
Sorry you had a bad day Sqkr hope things have improved.
A very mixed week for me as I found out that I have been rejected by the Army due to high blood pressure. I have provided evidence that I do not have high blood pressure but they're having none of it and to be honest I can't face the appeals process again. I've been waiting nearly two years as it is because of my eyesight. Apparently the ridiculousness of it all is being taken to a higher level but unless they change the admission criteria for Musicians I can't get in π
On a more positive note we had our running club awards night on Friday and I won a prize! My son won one too for the huge improvements he's made this year π
I'm not really sure what mine was for as I don't really feel I've made any massive improvements in the last 12 months. Other recipients included someone who ran 3 marathons in 3 months and another lady who ran a 100 mile ultra π³ I think mine was probably just for generally being cheerful and positive - they did mention I like to talk a lot π
Pretty chuffed though because we have over 400 runners in our club and there were only 8 senior merit awards π
Defo an animal person here...have two beautiful cats of my own. Your little'n is lovely, a bit of a snuggle and a few minutes of listening to his/her purring will soon soothe your stressed soul ππ»
My running is going well (yay!), after a couple of weeks ill health and a couple of weeks building back up I managed 11 miles for the 1st time last Sunday and was pleased to have enough in the tank to still manage a couple of miles or so on Tuesday without anything more than mildly achy muscles...all this fresh air and exercise certainly helps me sleep well too, what's not to like ππββοΈπ΄
I love cats and dogs and most other animals. Squirrels canβt be trusted tho, just sayinβ (we have a border under the front porch)
Iβve had a better couple of weeks than Iβve had in a long while. Still lower on the mileage than Iβd like to be, and will need to shift to evening runs next week onwards as I am starting a new job downtown and there will be a lot of routine changes coming. I tried a short intervals run last night. So cold - frozen fingers. Much respect for folks that do this regularly in the colder climates. Iβve obviously been spoiled till now.
