I’ve been ramping up for a new job this week, and trying some different long run routes out too. This morn was a nice downhill run to the lake to see the tour boats all frozen in the frigid waters like the one above. Also contemplating what races to do this year. I can’t decide right now. I am just running for the fun of it and the mental release. How about you? How’s your week been? Have you got your races mapped out for the year yet? Also how are you managing with your local weather issues lately?

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Good luck with the new job Decker πŸ€ A new job can be stressful as you’re trying to take so much in but maybe that was just me πŸ™‚

That photo looks freezing! I bet you were covered in lots of layers for that run.

My race yesterday was cancelled, along with most others, so I ran on Saturday and got a 10 mile PB! I’m so chuffed as I thought it would be a waste of all the training if I didn’t test the running legs πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‚ I just have to do it again and then some for Bath in March.

I haven’t booked any more events although I want to do two more HM’s this year, I just keep faffing around and haven’t decided which ones yet. I also have a 10K in the summer which I do every year with a friend but I’ll do more at that distance this year I think.

Haha πŸ˜‚ in my head, always! This was a 10 mile PB, I haven’t had a 10K PB for years but you’ve just given me a goal for after Bath, to get that 10K time down πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‚

Oops, sorry !!! 10 mile pbs are even more special 😊. Maybe Bath will pull a new 10k Pb out of you. All of my best times have happened in runs with others, except for my solo HM. Just keep a sharp look out for crazy people!!

Congrats on the new job Decker. If I remember correctly, you were working for yourself before, so I hope this change is a positive one for you.

With my HM creeping closer, I decided it is time to kick my butt in gear again. A friend of mine that I used to run with convinced me to run this HM with her in hopes that she can work herself off the IC. I presented several HM training plans to her and she chose a really gentle couch to HM 20 week plan that is run:walk that will hopefully agree with her knee. We started last week but given all our snow and ice (and she lives at the lake) she is starting on the treadmill. I managed to get outside last week for 2 short runs. It feels weird to go back to a run:walk but with my recent diagnosis of hypertension with some cardiac changes on ECG, gentle is probably good for now. I have my Echo on Thursday so will get a better idea of what degree of cardiac changes are there. My legs are actually a tad sore today, but given I messed up my interval set-up on Runkeeper and had to reset it, then got a little further from home than expected and was running through snow again, a little stiff is a good feeling.

I'm on call a couple nights this week then am away for almost a week snowmobiling where I'm not going to bother taking my run gear, so I guess it will be another week of lean running. I should get one (maybe 2?) runs in before going and a crosstraining activity or 2 (depending on how work goes).

Best of luck with your tests Sask, it sounds like you and your friend are playing it safe and smart.

Yeah, I was 10 years on my own, so this is very different being onsite for 8hrs :)

Afternoon Decker! Brrrrrrr ! Just the word "frigid" made me shiver. It's just begun to snow here. Nothing serious, just wet annoying stuff. Luckily I'd just got back from my run.

I had to climb over a huge fallen tree! Poor thing. It had taken a sizeable chunk of old wall with it too - Victorian I supposed, as was the tree I imagined. I couldn't get around it so over I went. It was massive to I figured it would be pretty solid. I tested it a bit to see if it was stable before legging it over the top

Running going according to plan (thank goodness) Still quite windy out there and there were lots of cleaning up operations going on in various places. Chilly and bright though so I enjoyed my leg stretcher today

I bit the bullet this morning and booked myself in for a 34 mile walk in May. It's the route of the town's ultramarathon, so I thought it would be a good way of doing a recce of the entire route. The walk is done in 12 hours on one day. Oooooer I will need a packed lunch then

A 12 hr walk! I think you should take Linda’s advice and treat yourself to some cake afterwards. And a six course dinner!

Good luck settling into your new job and routine Decker. I started back to work today after my winter break - together with the unpleasant weather it now seems really hard to schedule runs and rides into the few daylight hours I have. Sigh.

I seem to have quite a few races booked though - to the point I thought I'd do at least one per month. Then LWR got cancelled yesterday and I'm left in an indecisive dither for February 🀣. I think I'd be booking something just for the sake of it, rather than a race I really want to do, so I might just abandon the monthly race goal πŸ€”.

Other than that, I'm still on plan for my HM in March - beginning to believe I might make it to that start line 🀞. Happy running if you can, speedy healing if you're on the IC and better weather to everyone!

Thanks Linda, hope your transition back to work goes well too. Yes I just finished another night run. I’m really not a fan. If it was warmer maybe.

Sorry about the LWR, but monthly races seems quite intense in terms of stress, so maybe a break is not such a bad thing?

They're not all biggies, a 5 mile in April, a 5K in May, a few 10Ks and one HM in March and one in Oct. But you're right, the mental stress is still a thing! Several times on Sunday I thought how much more relaxed the day had turned out to be πŸ˜€

I'm still plodding along, and actually I took an extra day off this past week because my legs are really feeling the extra work!

Brighton Half Marathon is in less than two weeks, and last night I had TWO separate dreams about being late for it! It's only really part of of my marathon plan, so I'm not expecting too much - I just hope I make it to the start on time πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„

I always show up too early for races because of that fear and the worry of missing the race location on Google Maps 😁

Oh wow that photo looks so cold! Where I am it almost never gets below zero so it has never ever been icy like that before!

I have just started using the Nike Run App - just tested it out to see how I went, and honestly I think I have been missing out this whole time!

Up to now I have only ever run with music - even C25K I never listened to the app or podcasts, just timed them using my watch. But it is really good to have someone just chatting in your ear, taking your mind off the running and constantly thinking about how far there is to go. And I love that the music keeps playing in the background too. The first one I did was an hour, as I had an 8K planned and that is pretty much exactly my current pace - worked out almost perfectly - I had to keep running for 2 minutes to get the distance, but after 60, 2 minutes is nothing.

Then yesterday I did a short 12 minute run, as it wasnt technically one of my run days, but I just really felt the need to get out there! And that was great too. Its great to have some new inspiration!

Yes it’s like running with a coach isn’t it? It’s great you have found renewed inspiration and spontaneous runs are the best!

Hi Decker

I’m now in week 2 of my 18 week plan. This morning I did a 6 mile slow run. It has one long shallow incline which is handy. My June marathon is consistently uphill for the first half.

I’m trying to keep ahead of the plan because I will have a couple of weeks of no running in March.

Back to Blighty next week. Enjoy your new job.
