Hi groovy half marathoners!!!

If you're still preparing, how's it going? Or how do you feel having run your half? What are you planning next? Tell us all... 😊

For my part, having run my half marathon a couple of weeks ago (and yes, the race report is still in the works...) I am currently on the injury couch!!! 😲 I may have to postpone my Brighton Marathon, but it will be for the best. I had a couple of dark days, but now I've got a solid plan of cross training and building my running back in, so I'm looking forward to being strong and ready for my August events - and I wonder if I can find another marathon to do before then... 😊😊😊

I know that some of you are worrying about injury, or that your event may be cancelled due to that Virus. But I hope that whatever happens you will stick with your training plans, whether running or rehab, and continue to get fitter and stronger and LOVE RUNNING!!!!!!

ANYWAY. Let's not feel blue. Here's my question for this week:

⭐ What do you do with your medals???

I never know what to do with the medals, they are squirrelled away in various places around our flat. But I do like to see the most recent ones, and there in the picture is the super-fancy mug tree on my desk, holding my Brighton Half Marathon prize!! πŸ˜„

What about you? Do you have them all displayed proudly on a proper medal hanger? Do you wear a new one to the pub afterwards? Do you wear it for the rest of the month? Does anyone else use a mug tree??

Tell us all about it!!!

And whether you be fit or injured, enjoy your training, resting, or rehab.

Lots of love,

roseabi and linda9389, and Noodles the cat xxx

Hi roseabi , as you might remember I had to pull out from the Weymouth HM because I couldn’t train properly for itπŸ˜• Anyway, I’ve been keeping up with Parkrun πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈand passed the 50 Parkrun milestone on 29 FebruaryπŸ˜€ I’m slowly getting back into running but taking things carefullyπŸ™‚πŸ‘

Well done to those who’ve completed their runsπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘,and good luck 🀞🀞 to those who’re still to do theirs!

Well did the Anglesey Half Marathon next up is the Chester half in may then three half marathons in September/October (great north run, Caernarfon and Cardiff). Not sure if it’s a good idea to do two half marathons a week apart πŸ˜€πŸ€ͺ

Wow you're on a roll! Good luck!!! Should be fine, just take note of any niggles xxx

Hi roseabi I hope your recovery is going well. I’ve done a couple of halves at Headcorn and Deal this winter but feeling it in my upper hip at the moment still trying to get some distance in. I’ve signed up for the Hastings half and will try to put in a 20 mile between then and the London Marathon. All my medals are in a shoe box, it’s a shame but I don’t really know what else to do with them. I take them out occasionally and try to remember the race although they always seem easier in my mind than the last one I did πŸ˜€

Thank you! Ooh, I did Hastings last year, it's fab!! Hope your hip will be OK xxx

Ah, maybe that's what medals are for πŸ˜‚

Bling is definitely to be displayed at all times. I have all my medals hanging up in my living room so I see them all the time. I'm very proud of them all. Currently hanging from an old coat hanger though but I'm planning to splash out on something more fancy once I have a London marathon medal to add to my collection.

Excellent! I suppose I should just get myself one of those too really.

Another one on the IC! There seem to be a few of us atm ☹️

I’ve posted here yesterday so I won’t repeat but I’m currently β€œresting” until Sunday as I’m not risking any further niggles before then, it’s just too much drama πŸ™„

My medals are hanging on a proper medal hanger and are pride of place on our downstairs loo. In fact I need another holder as this one is groaning πŸ˜‚

We had a little visitor recently who decided she liked the look of one of them because of the pretty ribbon and I let her play with it but I couldn’t find it after she left, much to my dismay 😒 I have since found the medal ......without the ribbon πŸ€”

I didn’t know until then what my medals meant to me πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Irishprincess

Lol! I gave a medal to one of my nephews, and he just seemed really confused by it! He took it anyway, back off to Texas where he lives. And then I regretted giving the medal away slightly - it was my first marathon medal! Sigh.

Hope your injury blues are soon over xxx

I'm positively happy this week (apart from the occasional dip into maranoia), keep finding I'm singing to myself 🀣. So close now to Sunday's HM now and nothing is hurting, even the stupidly broken toe seems to be healed at last. Not nervous or overly excited (which is completely out of character for a drama queen like me) - I think I've spent so long believing this would never happen that I'm still not willing to believe it will.

Medals? mine are all hung up in the hall. Not as 'out there' as it might sound though. We have an upper row of coat hooks along the wall, and a lower row which used to be for the kids coats when they were little, no longer used. So all my medals hang there below our coats. However, in front of that row of hooks is the dog crate (English Pointer - big crate), so you can't really see any bar the ones on the first hook at the front . Front, left and center and then hiddenπŸ˜‚. Sometimes her crate gets pushed too close and at night I can hear the medals jingling whenever she adjusts herself in the crate 😍

Hope your recovery is quick and you find plenty of patience in the meantime 😘

Hi roseabi! πŸ‘‹

Long run of 18k logged a couple of weeks ago, followed by a week of grumpiness due to cancelling my girlie/grandson trip to Tenerife last week, and this week it’s mostly watching the news and keeping everything crossed that the Bath Half will go ahead on Sunday. I’m cautiously optimistic and can’t wait to meet a brand new set of fabulous VRBs, get that bling and all go for lunch afterwards! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ…πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…

I have one last tiny run planned for Friday, I’m volunteering at PR on Saturday, then it’s the day! πŸ‘ πŸ¦‹ 😍

Looking forward to your race report btw! πŸ˜…

My medals are all hanging up next to my bed on a sconce. It’s getting a bit heavy now so, before it falls off the wall, I may have to invest in a proper medal hanger for the new season.

After the Shakespeare HM I’m thinking maybe Kenilworth as it’s not until September, and I’ll do it β€˜just for fun’ 🀣

Hope you’re not too long on the IC Abi xx

Sorry to hear you are on the IC too Roseabi; we can keep each other company. It’ll be around 6 weeks before I’m running again so I am hoping to get closer to that purple parkrun T-shirt by volunteering instead. Only 6 stints to go.

Planning a little 3k tomorrow just to get some more kms on the VRWC HU team total before the first round closes, then try not to let the nerves take over. The medal for Hampton Court is always quite spectacular, so I think I will have to find somewhere else to display them other than hanging on the reading lamp in our living room πŸ˜‚

Loving the mug holder medal holder! I put mine on the end of the curtain pole in my bedroom! Started off on the living room pole but ran out of room! 6 medals now! And a half marathon on Sunday!!!!! I’m feeling well prepared with two 11 mile runs done so having a easy week this week to prepare! I think I can do it, optimistic time is 2 hours 20 that’s the plan...... my training runs involve running up a steep hill as many times as I can (5 is the most) but HM is all flat so should be easier...... can’t wait and can’t believe I’m doing one, wasn’t long ago when 10k seemed impossible! Yay!!!

Hi. hope you are off the couch soon (gives you chance to write up your report :-) )

my medals (not many) are hanging off a coat hook in the spare room.

I managed 11.5 miles on saturday, so I'm slowly building up distance in prep for my first HM in June ( trail!! what was I thinking?!) all is OK. I may have a bit of arthritis in my feet, but this isn't really a problem, I'll post about it once i have a bit more time.

roseabi profile image

Well done! A trail hm will be awesome!! Sorry to hear about your feet, hope it's not painful??

p.s. I have finally written the report!!!! I think I deserve a nap now πŸ˜‚

My medals are all on a medal hanger, which hangs on the back of the spare room door. It jingles every time I open and close it.

Just done 12 miles, my furthest distance ever! So far so good, my legs ache all over, but touch wood nothing is niggling.

And very excited to get back from my run to find that the postman had delivered my race pack for the Regency 10k😊

misswobble profile image

I’m on my second medal hanger. My son bought them for me bless im. Not hung my second one yet as waiting clearance from OH as to where I hang it. Cables in the wall sorta thing It needs to be well plugged into the wall as I’ve so many medals 😁😁😁😁😁only kidding 🀣 πŸ…

Ran a slow hour yesterday without any β€œafters”, so hoping my calf is all systems go for my half in a few weeks. I’m not doing the missed runs. I’m just going to tick over.

Off to read your race report now Roseabi πŸ‘πŸ˜ƒ
