As some of you may know, I’m crestfallen. My 2 daughters and I were soooooo looking forward to our annual winter week in the sun and we were meant to be jetting off to Tenerife next Monday. But now we’re not. I made the decision to cancel. 😩 Too risky in my opinion to take my family - plus 5 1/2 month old grandson - to a place where coronavirus is getting a foothold. We’re all so disappointed - it was my reset week before the Bath Half and I couldn’t wait to do a few 5ks in the warm sun. 🏃♀️ Not going to happen. 👎
So today I simply wasn’t feeling like running at all. It was cold and windy and I wanted to stay home and wallow in self-pity! 🥺🤪
I then thought of Irishprincess ’s knee and linda9389 ’s foot - and now Redcello41 ’s stomach - and gave myself a stern talking to. We’re all looking forward to meeting in Bath so much and the excitement is ramping up. They need a bit of moral support and a down in the mouth VRB isn’t going to do that is it? So off I went. Cold, windy, several loops (passed my car 5 times I think!), but I ground out 18k.
So there gremlins. 😠

Well done cheekychipmunks for getting out there and beating those awful gremlins despite not wanting to go out and run! And it's amazing what a bit of self-talk can do too! Sorry that you had to cancel your holiday, that is a shame! But it does sound like you made the right decision, better to err on the side of caution with these things! Your post has inspired me despite setbacks, so am looking forward to my run tomorrow even more! A runner once said to me that the hardest part is getting to race day and it has definitely felt like that for me at times! Well done again on your run today!
Thanks Redcello. I was simply feeling particularly sorry for myself and I had no right to. Cancelling the holiday was definitely the right choice and we’ll go on our girlie trip later in the year instead. 🤞✈️😀
So sorry you are having to miss your sunshine holiday cheekychipmunks but these are uncertain times and everyone has to make their own risk assessment to protect themselves. My optician cancelled Vietnam last week too.
I am sure that you can do some other nice things together instead.
Well done for getting out for your run and kicking those demons. You are going to smash the Bath Half.
If you think it’s cold there - it’s forecast -23c here tonight!
Thanks Dexy. You know me, I’m a stubborn one, and it helped me no end today! I think I’d have been even crosser if I’d given in and curtailed the run, or even stayed home this morning! 😅
Have a wonderful time in the real cold! 🥶 I doubt if any virus could survive in temps like that! 😀
Type @ and then the username straight after with no space - you should get a blue window pop up at the bottom of the screen with the user to select. Tap on the name and you will tag the person xx
NB cheekychipmunks doesn't need to be tagged in replies to her post though - she will be notified anyway 😊😊😊
Thanks Baddie. Yes it’s quite a way, and I really didn’t fancy it today! But it’s amazing how being a runner has changed me. I’ve always been stubborn and stuck at stuff, but the old me would have shortened today’s run judging on my foul mood this morning! Good old HU. 👏👏
Nice one Cheeky! Thanks for running that long run for me cos I don't think I'll be able to fit mine in now. You've saved yourselves and everyone else a lot of worry by cancelling- the worry would've undone all the good of the holiday anyway!!! Hope you find a nice replacement to look forward to 😍
Oh you’re more than welcome Linda! I had no right to be grumbling about a run with pals on, or close to being on, the IC. Without you guys I wouldn’t have gone out, so you did me a favour too! 😀
I know it was the right decision cancelling the holiday, and yes we’ll find somewhere else to go later this year. ✈️ Just a bit disappointing as we were really looking forward to it. 🥺
Oh Munks, brilliant! All that disappointment about the holiday maybe spurred you on 🏃♀️🙂
Thank you so much for thinking of me 😘 and for taking us on your run, I really enjoyed it 🤗 And the knee was great, haha 😂
You’re in great shape for Bath and you’ll have a fabulous run on the day, so now you can chill a bit, you’ve done all the hard work and you can enjoy the last few weeks (well, as much as anyone can chill a few weeks before a HM!). Well done to you 👍🏃♀️🙂
Thanks so much IP. That run definitely had your name on it. Some of those kms were run for you and your knee! 🏃♀️🏃♀️😅
So now it’s taper time. My legs are what let me down and they lose their oomph after about 13k, so they need to be fresh as daisies on the day! Just some gentle potters between now and the big day! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
What a shame about your holiday, but most people in your position would have done the same, especially when Tenerife has had its first confirmed cases. Equally it would have been heartbreaking if you had ended up in quarantine or self isolation and had to miss Bath after all your hard work. I’ve abandoned the idea of my two planned final long runs to protect my foot, so thank you from me as well for giving me a virtual long run 😂. Hope you’ve got some nice girly treats planned to make up for the holiday xx
It was a hard decision, but the only decision really Sandie. Especially with the little baby in tow - it did selfishly cross my mind about the quarantine too - missing Bath? Nooooo 😱😱😱 We’ll do some fun stuff next week anyway, plus I’ll book something else for us later in the year. 😀
How is your foot feeling now? I’m happy to dedicate a few of my kms today to you! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️ You’ll smash your HM. Can you believe we’re even doing this? 😳😳😳😳
I would have done the same. Thank you! Foot’s feeling ok, but still got 2 physio sessions and 2.5 weeks so 🤞🏻I got an email saying bibs etc are about to be sent out. Eeeeek 😳
Super run Cheeky - hitting the road for the team! 💪You must have been so disappointed about Tenerife but clearly channelled that frustration (I think I would have made the same decision too btw).🙂
Thanks so much Sandra. There’s no way I’d have missed that run in retrospect - although at the time I was far from happy! My VRBs spurred me on, plus I realised I’d definitely made the right decision as regards the holiday. Such a shame, but we’ll have our girlie holiday (plus grandson!) later in the year instead. 🤞✈️😀
That’s a lovely thing to say CSMN! Thank you. 😀 I do hope so - it just proves a lot of running is mind over matter. C25K taught me how to slay gremlins, and I used that skill today! 👊 💪 🏃♀️
Yes, mind over matter, but you have built a running machine with all your running training and cross training!! Be afraid gremlins, be very afraid!! 😂😁😘
Oh Cheeky it’s so rare that you’re not in the mood for running, so good on you for beating those gremlins. 🤩
Your decision to stay at home sounds like it was the right one. You might well have worried for the whole time if you had gone. The fun in the sun will come. Until then enjoy the fun in the run!! 🤗🤗❤️
Thank you so much Fabbo. Yes of course you’re right, it wouldn’t have been relaxing over there wondering if our hotel would be affected too - and maybe even the possibility of quarantine (and missing Bath! 😱😱)
We’ll go away later in the year. ✈️🏖
It is a rare thing for me not to enjoy a run, but it’s a wonderful thing gremlin slaying, isn’t it? Good old C25K taught us well! ❤️
So sorry about your holiday Cheeky, but I think in this very uncertain and jnfortunate situation you definitely did the right thing. The coronavirus is not going away anytime soon and getting away later on much safer. Meantime fabulous 18km today. Sending you lots and lots of sunshine from NZ for Bath. 🌞 😎 xx
Aww thanks Lexi, some NZ sun would be fantastic, thank you! ☀️ ❤️
I appreciate all you guys saying I did the right thing cancelling. I wondered whether I’d overreacted a few times, but it simply isn’t worth the risk with a little baby in the family. Vile virus. ☹️
So many lovely places to visit too all within a short flight. Without that should I/shouldn’t cancel going on, you can now concentrate on Bath Go you! 💪🏻 🏃♀️
I don’t blame you about the holiday. Best tee safe than sorry!! My son, that lives with me, is supposed to be going to Thailand mid March and I’m so worried. He keeps saying oh it will be fine. But as I’m one of the “high risk age groups “ and have a dodgy chest too I am being selfish too. He’s been looking forward to this for ages too 😷☹️
Aw sorry your holiday is off, but I think you made the right decision under the circumstances. It’s certainly not the weather for running here, hate going out in the wind, don’t mind the rain so much. Look forward going later in the year and get this hm under your belt. Happy running 😀😀🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️
Thanks Ageless, yes definitely the right decision, just very disappointing. It would be easier to accept if the weather here wasn’t quite so shocking! Oh well, grumble grumble! 😅
Thanks ju-ju. I figured my injured VRBs couldn’t run as they’d planned, so it was the least I could do! And I’ll be booking another holiday this weekend. 😀
Oh wow! Cheeky! You are amazing! A gremlin slaying super star, but not on any old day, but on a day of big disappointment. And did someone say 18km! Whoop! Whoop! Well done to you! Enjoy your tapering 😊
Haha, yes over61, I saw those pesky so-and-so’s off good and proper, although they were knocking on my door for the entire 18k! Disappointment coupled with HU determination worked. 😅
