TailChaser's HM Training Diary - Week 11

Look what turned up in the post on Friday! My charity popped it in the post before Christmas but it got lost, so they sent me another one. So, shall I put my name on it or not? What do you think? It looks a bit of a blank canvas at the moment, just waiting for its number.

To be honest I feel a bit of a fraud this week. It's been my cut back week and I've hardly done any running. I have done lots of yoga, stretching, Ju-Ju's Plankety Plank and a trip to the gym where I did a 20 minute run on the treadmill and, oh yes, parkrun yesterday of course.

parkrun was my only outside run, running straight into Dennis. One of the plus points of being small is that I don't have to battle the wind quite as much as someone with a bigger surface area! However, our parkrun has a short stretch across a very muddy section and the final section is also across grass/mud and that was very tough as gravity was totally against me. Trail shoes seemed a bit over the top just for those short sections but youngest kitten was very pleased he wore his. 28:28 though, so not too much slower than last week. I do really seem to enjoy running in this weather though (as long as it's not too cold), there's something life affirming about it. We were very lucky though; an hour after it had been packed a way, a tree came down right on one of the main paths on the route.

Now it's onwards with the meaty part of my plan. A steady increase in mileage on my longer runs, 20 minuters to try and work out a pace of some sort, gym work moved to Fridays and my mid-week run being the fartlek or interval run. This four week section ends with my first 10 mile run in a long time. My last attempt at a 10 miler back in the summer was the worst run I've ever had so I need to smash some demons there.

Now, do I feel better for not doing much running for a week? Physically, probably. Mentally, definitely not, I just want to get on with it! Katnap and I cleaned the kitchen today and, although it really needed doing, I would have much rather been out there battling the elements. I'm itching to do my longer runs in the daylight again, roll on next Sunday morning!

Have a good week everyone, and stay safe 🤗👍👍

Itching to be back out there? Sounds like your cut back week has indeed done it's job, both physically and mentally. You're raring to go for your next phase - enjoy, it will be really satisfying to see the mileage crank up 👍💪😍

You’re probably right Linda, I’ve just been a pain to live - I‘ve never been able to stand the feeling of being ‘trapped’ in the house, I need to work off the excess energy!

That tree coming down must have been a shock TailChaser. I guess that’s why so many cancelled parkrun as early as Wednesday . They just didn’t want to take the risk of that happening during parkrun. One good thing about these storms, it looks like we all managed to get some domestics done!

It sounds like you are raring to go again now and get back to those planned runs. I hope the weather will improve for you now. I must say I can’t wait to get to the snow after all this rain.

Happy running to Kat family. 🦆🐈😺

True. We always do a check before but you can’t take into account everything during wind like that. The river has burst again (no surprise) so the paths are now covered as well. I hope it recedes for them by Saturday but there’s more rain due.

I’m taking eldest on a short, timed, run this morning. I’m hoping he’ll slow me right down for a HM pace.

I miss snow!! Happy skiing to you and UTS! Enjoy! x

Thanks Windoze 😊 I found a lovely pace with eldest kitten today, whether I can do it over an hour or two and not lose patience is another matter!!

A cut-back week from running but definitely not from other activity! I bet your running body has really appreciated it and you’ll be raring to go all ready for your 10 miler 🏃‍♀️🙂 Enjoy.
