I'm currently doing gentle 5Ks a few times a week. Mostly going when it's dry because I'm not generating enough heat to handle a downpour (guess I could look into revising my running kit). Had a week off for skiing, which probably counts as exercise but I need to address the associated weight gain. I'm now taking a few days off due to a heavy cold (although I did fit one run in between skiing and cold).

Anyhow, I've managed to avoid breaking anything else since ice skating back at the end of November so this year is going OK so far. Current plan is to start increasing distance on weekend runs and see how that goes (although I'd be happier with a quicker pace).

Good to see you back SkiMonday and glad to hear you’re running your 5ks successfully. This weather is challenging though isn’t it? 💦💨💦💨 You can get some super lightweight running tops with fleecy linings which are lovely to run in and keep you warm. I know because the “unsuccessful in the London Marathon ballot” top I received is one! 😀

Good to read that you're still running despite all that 2019 threw at you! Long runs are supposed to be slow right? You'll probably find your short runs speed up naturally as a consequence of extending distance - patience, patience 🤪 Easier said than done I know! Would be lovely to say hello if you do come along to Bath HM 🙂.

I agree with Cheeky, I have a couple lightweight warm tops from Decathlon which were very reasonable. They're cosy but just rolling up the sleeves when I I get hot works well 😀

I guess that my pace for a given heart rate should improve with training but it's taking a long time! Hopefully I'll be able to up my heart rate soon. I'm currently going significantly slower than when I finished C25K but I'm trying to focus on long term improvements.

Think I will be able to make it to Bath (but not running).

It must be very frustrating for you, but at least you're able to get out there and run some.

Excellent re. Bath. I've sent you a PM of what we've been planning for meeting up 👍

If you put on weight you need to address the apres ski/ski balance. Have you noticed how hard it is to find moguls these days? They must be out of fashion. Shame because they do warm you up on a cold day. Unless you're a fair weather skier? Please say you're not.

If you're not, then why be a fair weather runner. Get out and get wet. You soon warm up.

Hi Loris

I think the last "proper" mogul field that I found was in Sestriere a few years ago. It was accessed by it's own drag lift (so once you're on the lift you're committed) and only opened at weekends. On this year's trip, the run back from the top of Zermatt into Cervinia had several sections of slushy bumps. I enjoy bouncing over them but they were a bit busy so there was a lot of picking a line to avoid other skiers.

As for fair weather, I do enjoy my skiing more on a nice sunny day but I spent half the week skiing without knowing which way was down so I think that counts. The overall run was visible but the contours weren't so I rely on technique and momentum to keep me stable.

Are you going this season?

My concern with running in the rain at the moment is that I'm still supposed to keep my pulse below 130 so I'm not generating much heat. Think I might interest in one of the fleecy waterproofs that have been suggested.

I went out this morning in hat, Buff, gloves and windproof jacket. Warm as toast. I strip them off as I warm up. I got back very wet but not cold.

Got a couple of days on the snow week before last. Couple of separate weeks in March booked.
